Every search engine has its own algorithm to rank a website or web page. Therefore, you can see the same website appearing on a different spot on Google, yahoo and Bing. Google is a search engine Google PR or Page Rank is based on Google algorithm. Some of the things that Google considers while ranking a web page are: quality contents, backlinks, keyword usage etc. These are also the criteria for yahoo PR or Bing PR.

My take on the Google Page Rank isthe estimated ranking that your website will get in the search engine list. But I have read in one discussion that it is not always the case because there are times that the Google Page Rank is old or not current anymore that it needs to be updated. And the search engine list is the current of them all. That’s why one advice is to check the ranking of your website in the search list and rely only on that.

I appreciate this discussion because it made me do research to learn how to differentiate between page rank and search engine ranking. I found two very informative articles that helped me understand. They are two separate rankings but they are inter-related, i.e. there is a relationship.

  • “PageRank (or PR in short) is a mathematical algorithm that evaluates the quality and quantity of links to a webpage.”

  • An article by The Balance Small Business lists “Top 10 Search Engine Ranking Factors”. Of those 10 factors, 7 deal with links. These factors can positively or negatively impact your search engine rankings.
