In general, video testimonials have a greater chance at reaching a larger audience online. And I say this from experience. I do video production and social media management for a good sized university in my city, and our video uploads get significantly more traffic through Facebook than any other kind of post we make.
I won't discredit written pieces, but the problem with them (in terms of social media and online marketing) is they don't have immediate engagement aspect to them like videos do. Video has the opportunity to hook you with visuals and sound, which is super important, especially in a world where our attention spans are dropping.
