There are many startups each year that go broke because they don't know how to hire the right people to do the job. Well, that problem could be solved easily if they were to outsource the work to credible freelancers around the world who sell small gigs to willing buyers. You need to stop thinking, "One time freelancers will never do everything I need them to do!" because that's the old way of thinking. In today's digital world you can bring freelancers on board to work full-time, part-time, or do what needs to be done and come back when they're needed. You don't have to hire them for a task, wait for them to finish, evaluate the work, then send them on their way. You can bring them on board, give them back-end access, and let them do their job so you can focus on other things.
In this discussion, if you haven't figured it out already, I'll be going over a few reasons why bringing on freelancers is much better than hiring full-time employees.
Reason 1: It tends to be cheaper
When you're hiring a full-time employee, you are paying them to do a job that they might not be doing. When you're hiring a freelancer, you're giving them a task to complete, and they won't get paid until it's done, which pushes them to do it quickly and efficiently.
If a freelancer doesn't get the job done, you don't have to pay them, but an employee would legally need to be paid for their time invested (even if they did nothing).
Hiring a freelancer can save a lot of money, or break even, but you'll always have more work done over time with a workforce of freelancers
Reason 2: You can hire someone with a proven track record
Since reviews are usually publicly visible, you can hire a freelancer with a proven track record and plenty of orders under their belt. You can sometimes hire new freelancers, ones with no reviews, and get a cheaper rate, but you'll always be tossing the dice to see if they can do what you need them to.
I'm not saying to avoid new sellers, but I am saying there's a better chance of getting something better from a seller who already has the reviews to prove what they can do
Reason 3: No need for interviews, testing, and trial periods
If you've ever applied for a job or were a hiring manager, you know the process of obtaining a job. You need to apply for the job, go through at least one interview, and wait to get a call back to know if you're hired. With a freelancer workforce, you contact them, tell them you need their services, and they can start today/tomorrow on the work you need to be done.
The time it takes to get a job done is much quicker, you don't have to train a freelancer, and no one gets paid until you sign off on the work
Reason 4: You pay-per-service and not hourly (usually)
Depending on what you want to do, you don't have to pay an hourly wage to your freelancers, and that's because the majority of people will take the pay-per-service option. The freelancers you're talking to know how quickly they can get a job done and if they're done in a day they can make a couple of hundred bucks
Whenever I'm hiring a programmer, I will always chat with them first, go over the details, and hire them for a per-service type order. They will complete the task in a few days, and we will talk again when I need them to do more work. Now, these services I need tend to be $100+, and that means if they did the job in a few hours, that's $33 an hour! Some of the services I've needed were $500+, and the freelancer has gotten the job done amazingly in 48 hours. That means if they worked 8 hour days, for two days, they just made $31.25 an hour.
Freelancers love working on per-service type jobs because it allows them to get paid a decent amount for their skills. It's also good on your end because you're not paying $30 an hour to a programmer, designer, or SEO specialist to do some work over a few weeks and still not be done lol.
Final Thoughts,
When I first started working online, I thought I'd have this massive company with dozens of in house employees, and then I realized I could tap into a talent pool that stretches across the world. I can hire programmers in India, designers in the Philippines, and anyone else across the world if I saw they were right for the job. Not only do I save on payroll, but my ROI is also much higher, and that's all due to the amazing freelancers I can pay to get the job done
