If you've read my discussions in the past, you'll know I'm a huge fan of automating whatever I can to re-invest my time on other things to make money for my business. Well, I'm writing this discussion to help you understand a bit more of what you can automate to focus on your work more and bring in additional clients
Automating your tasks can be as simple as filling certain forms in a specific folder to lead generation across multiple platforms to do outreach and bring in new clients. Most of the time you can automate something to a certain point, and then you have to take over, but the time saved is always valuable because you can focus on other things that need your attention
Lead generation automation to a certain point
When I start my lead generation, I will always use software to pull together a list of companies that will be more willing to purchase my services. If I'm selling SEO to people, I will target niches like lawyers, doctors, accountants, construction companies, and anything else I can think of at the time that has a business who can afford my services.
I'll let my software run overnight and gather thousands of potential leads; then I'll filter out the ones that don't have emails (which is a quick process), then I'll move onto calling those companies one by one to see who would be willing to chat a bit about my services. You may be thinking "Why did you filter out anyone that didn't have an email if you're just going to call them?!?!?" and that's because I'll set them all into an email sequence, later on, to keep me on their mind ;)
Email marketing automation to keep people coming back
Like I mentioned above, I will move onto email automation that will send out at least six emails to potential customers, and that's usually enough to see if they'll be interested or not. I will get the normal "Unsubscribe me from your list!" more than I want, but I'll also get the "I'm interested, can you tell me more about what you can do for my company?" and that's when the sales game starts
Auto-Updating Wordpress themes/designs
One thing that tends to be annoying when you have dozens of websites is when you log in to see you have five plugins needing an update. These could have needed an update for a week or a month, and they could have broken your website in the meantime.
I love having things auto-update, especially my plugins, so I'll try to automate this as much as possible and let my plugins do the work for me if they can lol.
Auto-Updating scripts on the backend
If you purchased a script from a developer, then you'll likely need to update it from time to time. This isn't always the easiest thing, which is why I look for developers that have free updates as well as auto-updates, and this means they will update it on their end, and I won't have to do anything on my end
I'm not a code-savvy person, and these types of script updates are confusing to me, so I usually go with any programmer willing to do the updates for me lol.
Hire employees to be your "Automation."
Bringing on employees can be seen as a sort of automation since they'll be doing the work you don't want to lol. You can hire freelancers or in-office help to do tasks that take a while and kill your time management. You can have them file things, sort things, contact businesses, etc. and you can focus on other things that need your attention.
I would go with hiring a freelancer starting because you can usually get someone overseas for cheap, and if you want to fire them, you probably won't cry about it lol. You can hire someone in your office, if you have one, and they will likely do a lot of work for you, but it might be more difficult for you to fire them if your business isn't performing well enough to pay them anymore
Final Thoughts,
Automation is the key to a single-person business to thrive in the sea of competitive corporations out there. You don't need the coding knowledge to compete with them, you need to know how to automate, and that is a step by step process that you'll master over time
