Many digital services such as SEO and SMM see a drop in sales around the holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, and it's a tough thing to deal with if you don't have multiple revenue streams up and running. I've experienced this my entire career and know what to expect when the holidays come around, but I would think new marketers might think their businesses are failing. Don't worry, this is normal, and your sales will likely pick back up after the second week of January. Yes, it will be that long, and there are a few reasons why.
People are traveling
A lot of people are setting up their travel plans, and that means more money going towards their personal life and not their websites. This is one reason they're not coming to your website to purchase a website design, some SEO services, or a custom logo. Another reason is that they're flying or driving across the country to be with other people in their families.
When someone is traveling, they aren't exactly thinking, "What can I buy for my website today?" and that's why your sales are dropping. No one wants to think about business when they're on vacation or going to visit friends and family. After Thanksgiving is over, people will be in full Christmas mode and still not want to purchase from you because now they're planning more trips around that holiday.
People are spending money on gifts, not services
When Christmas rolls around, you will see a huge drop in digital service sales, unless you're selling something Christmas related, and that means less money coming in for your optimization services, traffic services, writing services, etc.
No one wants to spend money on a service for their website when they have to purchase a gift for their mom, sister, girlfriend, wife, husband, or other relatives. They may plan to purchase something from you but think twice after they spend a ton of money on gifts, which is what I do all the time lol, and I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that think the same way.
People are thinking of their families, not their websites
Buying gifts for family and friends is one thing, but when it comes to the holidays, it's more of a get together for most people. Not everyone is thinking, "What do I need to rank #1 for my keywords?" on Christmas day or a few weeks prior. Most of them are thinking about who will be at grandmas house for Christmas or how they're going to hide the presents from the kids until December 25th.
Final Thoughts,
There are plenty of things that come before websites unless the site if business-related, but I would say the majority of sites out there are for personal use, and that's why we see a drop in sales. People want to be with their families, so they plan trips to the next state, across the country, or even overseas to see someone, and that's one of the bigger reasons we see a drop in sales. Another reason is that people dip into their savings to pay for digital services, and now that the holidays are upon us, they will use those savings for gifts and plane tickets, not your services. It's a tough thing to deal with from year to year if you're not making much, which is why you should always be saving your money, and that's one reason I hate the holidays lol. I try to do the best I can, deliver high quality services, but even I don't buy as much for my websites at this time of year because I'm purchasing gifts for my kids
