3 Free and Easy ways to generate website traffic that will turn into sales

Everyone is looking for free ways to generate quality website traffic that will hopefully turn into a sale or two.  What if I told you there isn't a magic bullet for this method, and you had to put in some hard hours of work, but it's worth it?  Would you be willing to work on it and compile your traffic every week until you're hitting 1,000+ unique visitors a day? 

You can always pay for traffic using Adwords, Bing Ads, and BuySellAds, but that costs a bit of money, and you're never guaranteed that you'll make a profit.  For that reason, I'll be going over a few methods that are easy enough to use that a grade school kid can do them and build a business within a year lol

Use Social Media Like a Professional
Many people will post a sale they're launching on the exact day, but they never think of mentioning it a week ahead of time unless it's black Friday.  What you can do is talk about anything related to your business, your sales, your industry, etc. and make sure people know you're invested and not a pop-up shop trying to sell a new product.

Facebook
Join facebook groups and communities and talk with people whenever possible.  Make sure you're joining niche-specific groups so you can speak to people who might be interested in your product or service.  You'll never want to pitch to them right away unless they ask for your link, and then you'll want to comment it right there in the open group so the person asking for it can see it.  Not only can they see it, but the rest of the group can as well lol.  I've gotten some big writing clients this way because I comment on random "I need a content writer!" posts and strangers who see me comment will then decide to request content directly from me

Twitter
I see twitter as more of a news portal now that links and syndicates other content around the web.  You can do the same thing, but you can also throw in some of your links to get people to follow you. 

One trick I like to do is share my guest posts on twitter and see how many shares, likes, retweets, loves, and hugs I get with each post (I know some of those don't exist lol).

Instagram
When you're sharing a photo, it's a little more difficult to generate traffic to a service unless you're building up a following and only share promotional stuff once a week or once a month.  If you're continually sharing images of your products, then no one will follow you.

You'll want to use your hashtags strategically and target the top 10-15 hashtags within your industry.  You might get top placement for one or more of your hashtags and pull in a decent amount of traffic, but you'll never know how much unless you try

Pinterest
Sharing to Pinterest is similar to Instagram in where you can't be 100% self-promotion and expect a huge payout.  You need to share niche-specific things and randomly share your products or services for the best results.

Reddit
This is the home of the internet and is essentially a massive forum where people can talk about whatever they want.  You can share your links, but beware because the users tend to scream at you if you're promoting your stuff. 

Instead, build up a reputation within a few of the sub-reddits, so the main people there know you don't promote just anything.  Share massive trends within your niche, big companies making waves, and anything else that can be known you're not self-promoting.  When you get enough reputation, you can drop your link randomly and see the traffic come in without the trolls attacking you haha

Network on LinkedIn
I'm a big fan of LinkedIn, and I also hate it because there are 1,000s of recruiters who spam me each day asking me to apply for jobs.  I get it, I've been doing SEO and Marketing for 15+ years, and you want to give me an entry-level position paying less than a starting position at McDonals, no thanks lol.

Don't get me wrong; if you can avoid the recruiters then you're golden, I just haven't managed to avoid them well enough because my LinkedIn profile always shows up on top for SEO related results lol

What you can do with LinkedIn is to be strategic and connect with big players in your niche.  You can then target whoever is linked to them and build a sort of downline of potential customers that might be interested in what you have for sale.  Send out connection requests to these people, but don't do it too quickly because you could get your connection request sending limited or banned completely. 

After you send out a bunch of connection requests and people are starting to accept them, you can then start writing content and linking to it, so people see what you're talking about.  You can pull them off of LinkedIn and get them to talk to you directly through your website.  Over time you will be able to build up a decent clientele and have a thriving business (hopefully).

Search Engine Optimization (duh)
This is a pretty basic one since we all do SEO, but it's a free method to generate traffic if you're good at it.  You can boost your rankings for difficult keywords, get a massive amount of traffic, and never pay a penny for the links you place around the internet unless you really want a placement and the only way to get it is to pay for it lol   Do this long enough, and you'll be the authority in your niche and pull in plenty of traffic


Final Thoughts
Obtaining free traffic isn't the easiest thing to do, but it's possibly if you put in the time.  The most difficult thing about it is all the decent methods you can do will take a while because you can't do them in a single day.  Of course, you could try to do everything each day, but I guarantee you'll get burnt out quickly.  Split up the methods throughout the week and stick with the ones that are working best for you and your business
