Are you addicted to your mobile phone?

There are a whole lot of people in the world that cannot stay more than a day without their gadgets such as smartphone by them. I think that I am one of them and this is something that I always fear about when I am choosing an offline activity as I would not want to work where I can't have easy access to my phone.

Are you one of us that is so addicted to our mobile phones?

I am an addict of my phone. One of the hardest things I can do is staying a single day without my phone. It does not matter if I am using it or not, but I always have it, unless I am charging.

It's interesting how for many of us, our phones truly are like an addiction to any other drug. It's like we get withdrawals and anxiety when we can't get our fix. I really have to work on it myself...I don't want to be a slave to my phone, so I'm trying to drastically reduce my screen time.

I think having my phone without data or Wi-Fi is like having a battery low or faulty device, I don't see any worth of my mobile phone when I don't have data in it.

Haha yes, I agree. Internet connection is so essential these days and is used so extensively for our daily lives. From driving to checking out restaurants to messaging people, we can't just live without it.

You are like my friend in Hongkong who would always say that she couldn’t survive a day without her phone. But it is understandable because she is working abroad and is far from her family. The social media is her only connection and she would open her Facebook account whenever she has the opportunity just to ease the pain of separation from her family.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I would say that I am addicted to my phone because most of the time I am using for checking my emails and social media account too. I usually use my phone for film viewing and of course watching videos there also.

Its just like going to the moon and staying there alone without seeing anyone or chatting, just living a lonely life.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I must admit it would be very lonely staying there literally. But seriously mobile phone is very addictive. Sometimes we are not satisfy by one phone only even if its not that necessary.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think this is part of the difficulty, since phones these days aren’t just for calling but for work, for entertainment, for getting errands done such as banking or even grocery shopping! We use our phones for so many day to day tasks that it can be hard to go without them.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I have to admit that I am addicted to my phone. Without it, I feel that something is lacking. Even when I go out, I first check my phone if it's with me. Sometimes, I prioritize it more than my wallet. But, if there would be a time when I would be required to get off from my phone for 24 hours straight or more, I think I could do it, as long as I would be provided with tasks.

I suppose I am, but it is like mobile office and I do a lot of different things on it. I do banking, work on it, use it as a phone, use watsapp, watch youtube, facebook, make notes, store all sorts of stuff, edit photos, and all sorts. I also use a Bible on it. Sometimes I have to preach in a facility where my phone is not allowed and it feels really odd to have paper and not my sermon notes online. they too are usually in my phone. Every so often I leave the thing at home for a bit just to have a break from the phone but it is my most useful possession.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's so cool that there's even a Bible you can use for your smartphone! I've heard of people using daily devotionals on their phone but I didn't know there was a Bible for it too. Is it via the Kindle app, or an actual designated bible app?

Really fantastic that there are such modern ways to connect with the Bible!

Nope, I'm not. I spend most of my time working something, browsing the internet, playing some games, or watching movies with my laptop. Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Sometimes I admittedly am. I could do with creating a bit of space between myself and my phone but it can be hard since my phone is also one of the ways I work!

The world has changed a lot and many people use their phones for a whole host of tasks.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree with you. Before, people have a prejudice against phones. But, nowadays, our phones have helped us in many ways possible.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes, I think I am addicted to my mobile phone. The mobile phone has become a very essential device to stay connected with the world. I use my mobile phone to do almost all the important work regularly. Right from doing grocery shopping to ordering food online, we do all these tasks on our mobiles these days. Even for paying all our utility bills and doing all kinds of banking transactions mobile devices are used on a large scale. I think its simply not possible to stay away from our mobiles for a long time.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
Yes - in this fast paced world, if you didn't use your mobile phone for certain tasks you'd take a much longer time having to do them in person. Time is so important these days, and most of us find anything that saves us time is incredibly helpful. Phones are a big part of that.

I do admit that I was addicted to my mobile phone before when it was just new to me because I am still curious on its features and on how I could used it properly. I guess it is just a natural reaction when we have a new mobile phone because I am just exploring it so that I can have a better idea and understanding about such gadget.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I’m the same way whenever I get a new gadget - it ends up being like a toy! You want to learn about every feature and function, and it takes some time to do that.

I think eventually though that novelty dies down!

I think I do spend the time on the phone and that does make me worry a lot about what is happening around. I think I have spent a lot of time on the phone. And I should not be spending that much time. Instead I should be spending the time with the family and friends. That goes to show you that addiction definitely has a price. And people have to understand that mobile phone is definitely going to affect their future for sure.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It's something I worry about too, that I find myself caught up with what's happening to people online that I end up zoned out from my real life happening in front of my eyes.

I'm really trying to be more diligent with spending less time on my phone. Even if it means leaving my phone in a separate room from where I'm working, or not charging it immediately when it runs out of battery.

Properly, an casual definition of addict is “an enthusiastic devotee of a particular aspect or pastime”. I actually consider myself an enthusiast, so I bet, sure, I am an addict. However, I could live with out my smartphone for an prolonged time frame. My record is 1 month.

I think I can consider myself as one. As soon as I wake up in the morning, I would grab my phone and check for notifications on my social media accounts. I constantly check my inbox for messages or important announcements. I use my phone to read medical eBooks and articles while in school. I hate to admit it, but I'm so dependent on my mobile phone that I would definitely find it hard to survive the entire day without one.

I'm not addicted to my mobile phone. I can go without using it if I have to. It's just that I'm using it for a lot of stuff daily. There are even apps that help you earn extra income. That's why I'm using it a lot right now. I also read books using it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Apps that earn me money are a big part of my phone usage too. I often see my phone as a “mobile office” so to speak, since a lot of my income is generated through access to the internet - and a big chunk of that time is spent on my phone.

I actually have been paying more attention to the time I spend on my phone since the new iOS upgrade gives you updates each week on your daily screen time. It can be rather confronting when you're given a daily average of how much you've been on your phone...it's a wake up call to not use it so much!

Sometimes i do wonder if we are really addicted. In a world where the whole world is brought to your finges tips, I really get to wonder how we are not going to use our gadgets virtually always when it seems like the 21st century world revolves around it. Smarphones changed the way we do everything —the way we converse, get and stay informed, the way we play, and even the way we do business. I know there are implications on our real lives, but the way of life of this modern times resulted to it. Someone like myself eho likes to write and read, i found out i can write and read more conveniently with my phone, and I always do that. I get informed and i learn, I write better now too. Please do you think I'm addicted?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
That's often what I think - it's not necessarily that we're addicted, more that smartphones have been incorporated into much of our daily life. Things like our banking, shopping, work and more are now often done through phones. It's a completely different world we live in now than 20 years ago.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mosesoscar
So I guess I'm not alone on this one. Society is dynamic, it has evolved into what we have now —the internet age

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
Yes, all the tasks we can do via our smartphone these days are things that potentially would have taken hours before. When I pay my bills online it takes a minute or two, whereas previously I'd have to go directly to the business or to the post office and wait in line to pay them. Same goes for grocery shopping - I can order my groceries online and have them delivered to my home. Sure, we use our phones a lot these days but I do think they cut down on time in other areas immensely.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mcnasci24
I think I am addicted. I can spend several hours without looking at it, but no more than half a day. Plus, if I don't have a phone signal, I start getting stressed and moody. Maybe because I consider it an essential tool for work and communication, not as an entertainment device. For instance, I rarely use Social Media, but I can't live without checking my email a few times a day.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Judas2018
I hear ya. Normally, when people say they're addicted to their phones it's either 'need to check email,' or 'need to take selfies.' Social Media I'm sure is a big part of it also but the first two are the answers most people give to this question.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mcnasci24
Totally. Also, I have a couple of friends who swear they are not addicted to their phone, but as soon as they lose signal, they start freaking out because they're unable to check emails/Social Media. Another very good friend told me she wasn't addicted at all, but when the phone screen broke, she almost had a mental breakdown. The very next day she had it fixed.

I think most people don't realize they are addicted, or brush it off.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
A big part of my need to check emails comes from the fact that many of my work opportunities are sent to me via email. Not being quick to reply to emails can often be seen as someone who isn't dedicated to their business, so it's unfortunately a part of my life right now that I check my emails multiple times a day (within reason).

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I am a moderate and conservative person who can be considered average and normal. I know of some people who are phone addicts that they are not comfortable when their phone is not with them. When I am at home, my phone is just in the living room even when I am out in the yard. I made that a habit because it is not good to be too dependent on the phone. I don’t want to be a slave of technology.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Sounds like you have a nice balance of embracing technology but not being controlled by it. I think your attitude of being fine with your phone being in another room is a good, healthy attitude.

I can’t say that I’m addicted to my phone, mostly because I have an old Nokia phone that I only use for text messaging and calls. I originally got it as a temporary replacement after my smartphone broke, but I found that I wasn’t really missing the features on my smartphone all that much.

That being said, was I addicted to my smartphone previously? No, I can’t say so. The catch is that I had no need to be addicted to my phone, because I spent all day on my laptop anyway. I definitely have somewhat of a computer addiction, but a lot of it has to do with the fact that my work revolves around the internet/the computer.

Though admittedly, I probably spend an equal amount of time looking at silly cat videos and playing video games as I do actually working.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Oh gosh, it's almost impossible for many of us to do that, mainly because so many of us use our computers or phones as income sources. It's hard for me to avoid them completely because I need to earn money to pay the bills!

In saying that, I definitely try to ensure I have "technology free time" each day.

I think addiction to the use of mobile phone goes with maturity and priority. I use my phone as needed to communicate, to research, to take pictures or videos and for some important purposes. By the grace of God and discipline, I allow myself to use my phone and not the other way around.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ajahcuizon
I agree. Mainly, phone is used for communication. What makes is addicting is its additional features that has improved from before. I also agree that it will also depend on the priorities of a person, for me whenever me and my boyfriend are together, instead of holding our phone, we will hold each other's hand and that's something I should prioritize as we are in a long distance relationship. Everyone should know how to control their usage lf their phones.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I cannot say that I'm addicted as I can still control myself in using my phone. Yes, I'm using my phone in my day to day actually more like every minute to check if there would be a notification for me. I also use my phone in working so using it is a must for me. But I still let go of my phone whenever I have to contemplate or I am with my boyfriend. There will be times where I need to be hands off to my phone and I take that as a rule for me.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I like that you already ensure that your phone isn't around when you're spending time with your loved ones. I can't count the number of times when I've been out at a restaurant, for example, and I've seen a couple out on a date who are both just staring at their phones! Not very romantic or engaging if they're not even paying attention to one another!

Same with me, my phone helps me a lot especially with my everyday activities. Before, people would insist that they are not addicted to their phones and that they can stand being away from their phones in a day, but guess, what, times have changed. We also have our priorities that only phones can give us a helping hand.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes, it's hard to separate ourselves from these gadgets. Particularly, given how necessary they are to modern society. Despite our desire to get rid of them, we can't. Because doing so will put us at a disadvantage.

Not as much as before. Before I couldn't go without it. Now, I am always on my laptop not on the phone anymore. I am aware of the importance of the phone, it is not only for communication but also for work. I can do my a simple proofreading in my phone and sometimes writing a draft for my articles. It is more handy than any other device.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's understandable. The laptop is still more useful for work related stuff. The phone is more about convenience when it comes to small tasks and quick entertainment. I mostly use mine to read eBooks.

I don't consider myself as addict on mobile phone. I only used it on important matters like communication and work. There are times that I used it for pleasure like games or music. But everything is in control. I can leave it in my room for 2 days without touching it. I don't have mobile activities that's why I am confident to leave it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's great! It means you're doing well with the use of it. A lot of people nowadays have become slaves to their gadgets. It's like they spend more time on it than actually living life. I'm happy to see some of us who are not dependent on their mobile gadgets.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It's always our choice if we want to be a user or addict. Are you addicted to your mobile phone? Kidding aside, we have a brilliant mind to control over the things we like or have. We manipulate everything then we blame it on things or situation. We always love to secure ourselves from the side effects. My experience taught me well. I was once addicted and hooked. But, I thank God I surpass those stage of craziness.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's funny. I like how you shared your experience. I think we've all been there to some degree. Some more extreme than others. Like even before the age of social media, it was so crazy.

I had relatives who were frequently texting on their phones. Non-stop.

Like while eating, watching TV, and any other scenario. They were already hooked on their cellphones despite its bare necessity functions. That was the time when you could only call and text someone using it.

And they were already abusing mobile phones. What more now when you could basically do anything?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Jelineex
Well mobile phones signifies our status quo. It's a source of joy for everyone else unless you don't have money to purchase for it. It's funny to see those person walking down the street holding their phone laughing and smiling. Even Crossing and driving their cars. They don't care unless a snatcher will come and break their hearts.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Yes, I know what you mean. It's like you're rich if you can afford the expensive brands and models of smartphones.

I'm just surprised how even without the apps and many upgrades of the current phones, people still fell for it. I wondered why people back then would keep texting each other non-stop despite having other people within their area.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

They are rich with debt. I remember a joke saying " Never envy someone who has an Iphone because it's not fully paid" seems bitter. Well using a phone is like a self expression. People are becoming anti social. Gadget are new found home.

I can certainly relate to you, in short I just use it when necessary, and of course if my girlfriend messages or calls me, other than that I just keep my phone asleep or else I just let my cousins borrow it and use it to play games and/or watch YouTube videos.

Kind of but not in a bad way because I really need my phone because this is my main instrument to earn. I have this when I wake and before I sleep and even while eating.
Before I always hold my phone because of online games but now bacause of freelancing.

I believe handphone is a necessity and one cannot avoid not to have one beside us all the time. It is the window to the world outside, get connected all the time and be informed of all the happenings. The handphone's function is no more limited to calling and receiving calls, but the multi functions have enabled us to be always connected but at the same time very addictive and dependent.

Not many people can operate without their mobile phones. I’m afraid that mobile phones are not an option or a luxury anymore, but a necessary part of life, especially if you want to run a legitimate business. Even if you are an employee, your boss wants to be able to reach you at every and any opportunity. Show me a serious person that is not accessible at all times of the day. This is the reality of the 21st century economy.

It's true. One of my freelance jobs is as a social media manager for a company. Try doing that without a smartphone - it's impossible. Many modern jobs have been created through the use of smartphones so I think for many of us it's simply inevitable that we'll need to use them quite a bit.

Hey there!

I'd say no, I'm not addicted to my phone. Maybe it's because my phone is old? I use an HTC Windows Phone 8.1.

To be honest, I used to be a PC addict during my school years, but nowadays as an adult it's hard for me to get addicted to something specific. I simply wouldn't have time for it, hehe.

I don't have a hard time ignoring my phone for days but it's the only form of communication I have with my husband when he's off at work and with my friends who live far. It's not about addiction for me but a must to still be connected with them even though they're somewhere else. So my answer is no, I'm not addicted to my mobile phone, but I am addicted to keeping in touch with people who are dear to me.

There are some people who really feel addicted to their mobile phones since for them it is already a necessity to have a mobile phone which is something that is very common and popular nowadays.

Yes. Mobile phone is the number one reason of fighting with my husband. Lot of important things usually forgotten because of too much using of my cellphones. But its not my intention. I just found out that social media is more interesting while earning and making friends all kver the world. My husband didnt know that because hes very old fashioned and dont use his mobile phone in different task. He dont know that theres too much you can do in mobile phones.

Yes I am, I am man enough to admit it. I spend on an average 2 hours and 1 minutes watching my phone, and I don't even want to mention the calls....

I admit I'm addictedddicted to my phone. From the time I wake up I'm on my phone.I only part with it when I'm ready to sleep.I switch it off, leave it in the sitting room, then I go to bed.
A mobile phone is more portables than a laptop or a computer.I find myself operating it in the kitchen while preparing meals.

I also need an alarm sound and I only use my phone. But you can just change the volume so that you can put your phone away from you

I was before because, I don't know it seems like my brain have been programmed to use my phone 24/7, I mean if I have nothing else to do I automatically use my phone, maybe unconsciously, it's just that I've been using it for so long that my mind automatically enforces me to use it as soon and as long as possible. But now I have been able to balance the things that I do in my life, I just use my phone when necessary, if I have more important things to do then I prioritize to do it rather than sticking on my phone and procrastinate about anything.

Yes because I have nothing else to do. I'm single, TV sucks and I've got a small circle of friends and we barely go out because they're all busy and in a relationship so I've got no other choice but I've been trying SO HARD to control my smartphone addiction, I'm using Screen Time on iOS and it works quite well. I also try to go outside more often like going to park, go for a short walk, anything that can stop me from using my phone. I even deleted my Facebook account and other apps including games.

I'm not addicted to my mobile phone. I simply know that it isn't healthy to use your phone constantly. And I really enjoy in real life activities, like sports. Also I am the type of person who prefers nature rather then computers. So I try to use my phone as less as I can.

Mobile phones have come a long way in the last 7 years. I remember when the original iPhone was released and people thought the screen was huge. I also remember when having a physical keyboard was a necessity. Things have changed greatly since then. I am really enjoying the slowdown in the mobile space though. There was a time when it seemed like every manufacturer was releasing about a dozen phones a year. It was hard to keep up. Now it just seems like the only manufacturer that continues to flood the market is Samsung.
