How much are you making as a freelancer on monthly basis?

Most people took up working online as freelancers with the intent of being their own bosses, not answerable to anyone but themselves and also to be the one deciding how to work, when to work and how much to earn either on weekly or monthly basis.

Now, the question is how much are you making as a freelancer and is it enough to take care of all your responsibilities?

The truth is that making money as a freelancer is something that I can't really say that I make a certain amount. We all know that the income is not all that stable as the way that clients give you work may differ from what happened last amount. So, the amount that I make always depend on how much clients that I work for during the month.

I agree with you. You will not be able to exactly know how much you could earn in a month. It depends on the number and frequency clients you have served.

Yes, same here in my case. The amount that I will get will depend on how much I worked during those months.

I agree with you their are times that clients are abundant, their are times that it's not.

It looks like we are on the same boat when it comes to earnings in freelancing because I cannot say that my earnings are stable with a fixed number. I can earn a lot this week but I may not have anything to show next week. In other words my freelancing work is not a stable job and that’s the reason why I am looking for other means to earn money online. Affiliate marketing is my target for my next venture.

The amount that every freelancer makes depends on so many factors. Personally, I cannot say I make a specific figure because it depends on:
  • The amount of work offered in a month.
  • How much the clients are willing to pay.
  • My efforts and availability to handle assigned tasks.

I think that's one of the hardest parts about being a freelancer. My income does tend to fluctuate quite a bit from month to month. Sometimes I have so much work that I feel like I'm always at my computer, and other times I'm scraping by with a really small number of jobs. It's one of those things you have to factor in to this kind of work.

I agree because I have faced the same challenge. Sometimes even getting that one job becomes a hard task, especially when your clients have gone for the holiday.

This is so true and you need hard work if you want to earn big.

Well, I am a total newcomer as far as freelancing is concerned. I have an offline job and I do freelancing whenever I get time. Although I have made some money in the past few weeks that I have been working as a freelancer but the amount is not worth mentioning. Hoping to make some decent earning in the future through freelancing

It's great that you still have a full time job and use freelancing to supplement that income. Sure, it might not be much at the start, but there is a lot of potential there to expand to more earning opportunities. Any money earned is helpful, in my opinion - and especially if it's through something that you enjoy.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

nrnlss
That's really hard, you have freelance and offline job. I wonder how you manage your time.

I earn a few hundred dollars a month. Definitely not enough for me to be able to live off, but my husband works full time and right now I'm the primary carer for our two young children. Despite not earning enough to be a full time income here in my country, I do find that it lessens the burden on our bills substantially, and still allows me to keep my skills relevant while I'm looking after young children as well.

allyn2017
I think around 200-300 $ and in our country it is enough money for a month.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
That's so fantastic that you earn enough to be able to cover your living expenses! That's my dream too, but right now I live in a country that has a pretty high cost of living when you factor in rent, bills, and so forth.

One day though, I hope to get there!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Good luck to you, I hope you do too. I joggle from one freelance gig to another just to live without starving.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

superlicca
I hope I can earn that amount too. I know that this amount is not high for others but I am single and I live with my sister and parent. We share with all the expenses that is why a 200 to 300 USD per month is enough to cover all my expenses. I can even save money from this.

With the saturated market these days it is hard to earn a living. I'll go into full details on why:

1. There are tons of freelancers these days looking to earn more money. If there is an abundance of services and sellers for the same service, then you may not earn much money.

2. Pay rates have drastically decreased. There are freelancers in other countries whose economy isn't like the rich countries (for instance the United States). So these freelancers are able to offer services at very low amount which in return lowers all the other service's prices. This is done for the competition.

3. The competition is steep. There are a lot more freelancers these days. So with this in mind, you have to be on top of your game 24/7/365.

So with all this being said, I would like to say people earned a lot more in the past. My current freelance earnings are anywhere from $50 a month up to about $1,000 a month. Every month is different. Some months I truly struggle other months I can get by.

amelia88
This is one thing I find really hard - I live in a country where the cost of living (and overall wages) are probably high compared to other places. I can't compete in a lot of cases where someone is willing to work for far less than I could afford based on the time needed for the output.

I love what I do, but sometimes I have thought that an offline job is going to be required for me once my kids are school-aged, because there's just not enough work right now for me. I'm grateful for the money I do earn but it's nowhere near a full income.

I agree with everything you said in your reply. Others who offer services at very low rates have a track record of bad quality services yet people still buy them because they are cheap. I would honestly rather spend my money on higher quality services. I wish there was like a market cap or something for services so people can post their service within the market cap as it were. However this will probably create problems that I can not predict. Maybe one day the service marketplaces will have an epiphany and no one will work below their worth? Lets hope.

I made money online as a freelancer like 50$ per month using Postloop, that's the only site that I am using to earn money online because some other sites are hard to earn and hard to complete.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
Postloop is great as long as they keep having consistency in terms of the sites that they avail for one to earn. How do you even make 50$ per month coz the maximum have ever made is about 25$? There are sites which are not consistent making a fluent income impossible.

I just earned 40 USD in a month. I think his rating is 5 that is why he can join a lot of forums. He might be also consistent in making a post and take his time to read and create a topic.

Why don't you try working as a freelancer and register on sites like Upwork? Trust me. You'll earn a lot more from there. But of course, you need to audit your skills first before you present yourself to a client. Know yourself, and what you can do, I'm sure you'll do great. All the best!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I also use Postloop. But, I don't earn as much as you in a month. How can you manage to earn that amount? Well, I guess, you have a rating higher than 4.50, am I right?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree with you, and wow your earnings in that site is really great. In our country it is already big.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree this depends. it's quite a relative question. Online work is not that stable sometimes you can make thousands of dollars , sometimes you make only a couple. You also have to diversify your income sources so that if you don't make enough money through one income stream , the other one comes through. At the moment I make a minimum of $100. When business is good I can make upto a $1000. I'm aiming to make $1000 on a constant basis.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
$1000 per month is my goal, too. At that point it would mean that I could work from home, since finding an out-of-home job (when you factor in the commute, office attire etc) would end up working out to be around the same. Right now I'm earning around half of that, so I still have some big room for improvement.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
If I get to 1000$ per month then I think that I would definitely have reached a level in my journey and it is a cause for celebration. Currently, the much I have made it up to 450$ but I still have not given up and I am aiming for more.

I still have a long way to go to reach and achieve my online freelance income goal of $500 a month. Presently I'm only earning $200 that's lower by $150 from my earnings several months back. I was earning about $350 then but some of the sites I'm working on closed shop so now I only have 4 sites to work on. A forum posting site which is my favorite because it's helping me alot in developing my writing skills. The second and third sites are both job sites where I do different kinds of work like translation, encoding and all the boring stuff. The fourth site is a market research site where I do online surveys and offline things like group discussions, one on one interviews, food and drink taste tests, product testings and reviews. I could earn a lot more if I choose a full-time online job like being a full-time virtual secretary but that would be boring because it has a set time. I like to be free, doing freelance work whenever and wherever I want to without any pressure and or tension involved.

I think that my earnings now online as a freelancer has improved since I can now earned 80 dollars or more per month due to so many sites that I am working right now and mainly because of the good pay rate that I am receiving. When I was just new to freelancing sites I was only able to earn 40 to 50 dollars a month which is really small but I do appreciate it already as long as I am earning from it because I mainly treat my freelancing activities as my part time job only since I have an offline job as my source of my primary income.

I think for me freelancing is lot different. Gigs are not consistent and not the earning either. I get paid on the basis of available type of the payment options. Some clients are not reliable because they don't pay much. So you can see that it's necessary to learn about more or less of freelancing before putting yourself into it. Lot of times things go the wrong way. I'd say if you can do it then learn about it.

Several months back I was earning $300-$350, 4 years ago it was $500, at present I'm earning not less than $200. The decreasing amount was due to the closure of 2 sites which contributes a lot. One of the sites which pays me well then was Forum Wheel. It closed shop and left a lot of unpaid writers including myself. The second site was called K.O. Trivia were I played a lot of trivia and won a lot of money.

It's highly frustrating when a source of income ends up closing down - especially when you've been relying on that income. It's something that I've only had happen to me once, but when it did it came as a shock and took me a while to recover from financially.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I have witnessed this on more than five sites that I was writing in then the editors had to cut down on the freelancers and unfortunately I was on the list of people to be let off since I was from an unpreferable country.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree with you. It's very frustrating, yet you don't have a choice but to accept it. I witnessed this only once though, but that was a good paying site.

I think it's part of what has made me so conscious of my budget, and saving for the future. As a freelancer you often don't have the same job security as a traditional workplace offers - but I'm glad that as a result I've become much more financially savvy!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I work only part-time on the net and what I earn is dependent on the jobs available. Creative writing jobs tend to pay better - $30+ a project. These get posted rarely and I hardly ever write articles and other non-fiction writing so I don't make much. However I'm hoping to turn things around within a year and get into full-time freelancing. Maybe then I could earn more than $1000 a month.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

This question is very confidential I guess for others, tho for me it doesn't matter. I earned enough money on the time that I invested to it and I think it's fine for me.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Honestly, I don't make a fixed and decent amount of money in freelancing. I still rely on my stable job and I'm glad that during my breaks, I have something that keeps me busy and let's me earn even for a little amount. Though there are times when I pour all of my available times in freelancing and earn the expected amount that equals my hardwork.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think it's fantastic when you can still have a full time job and branch out into freelancing. It still offers you that safety net of knowing you have a full time income coming in, but allows you to test the waters and see what's out there in the freelancing realm. Best of both worlds, really!

Take note that I have a full time job in the office so my freelancing is just part time although I could do more during weekends and holidays. I am lucky to earn $100 in a month but it’s just fine because my main intention in my freelancing is to prepare myself for a full time freelancing job so that when I retire from my office job then I can have a substitute livelihood. It’s scary to think that I would have no job in the near future and I am depending on my freelancing for an occupation.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

superlicca
It is good that you have a full-time job in the office. What you earn online can be helpful too. 100 USD is a good amount. I hope I can earn that amount in a month. But I like your idea that you prepare yourself for retirement, it is good that you will still have a source of income when you retire. I am young but I also want to prepare myself for this kind of situation.

I am trying my best to improve my freelancing earnings every month by way of prioritizing those freelancing sites that gives me more income and take them lesser those sites that doesn't give much earnings. It would really help me to utilize my precious time well because I still have an offline job that I needs to deal with. It is really tough but I am exerting a lot of efforts to reach my goals and someday I will be proud of it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
You know, I've got to be more conscious of that, too. There are some sites I really enjoy working on, but the time required for the income earned isn't that great. Prioritizing my time for sites that pay more is a useful way of earning more without having to dedicate more hours to freelancing.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

esteban123
Yes that is right since we really need to manage our time well because it is really precious, we must stick to earnings sites that give us more earnings than having many sites that sometimes we don't earn that much and end up wasting our precious time.

Hey there!

I tried to be a Freelancer once, didn't make much. Around $30 monthly.
It's a good job once you find a lot of contractors, until then it's very difficult.

It varies per month depending on the work load. It's hard to pinpoint. Overall it's enough to start a savings from, but not enough to live on a monthly basis.

I am also new to the world of freelancing activities and I am still earning a little amount from it. I think I should try to invest more in improving my skills so that I can have some better opportunities because I am just now working on low paying sites which are only good as an extra income since it cannot replace the earnings from my offline job.
