Using Grasshopper with your cell phone to have a dedicated business line

Whenever you're running a business, or just put a website up to make some extra money, you'll always want to be seen as professional as possible.  This means you need an elegant design, a nice logo, a support system, and a dedicated phone line with an 800 number attached to it.  Sure, you could use your own phone number, but that won't be seen as professional as it could, so you'll need to think of getting a dedicated number in order for people to see you as a professional business and not someone working out of your spare bedroom.  You could be working out of your spare room, but you don't want people to see you like that, so get a dedicated line and watch your authority start to boost up because of how professional you are Using Grasshopper with your cell phone to have a dedicated business line

I've set up multiple websites, ran a few businesses, and I know that having a dedicated phone number is crucial when it comes to boosting sales.  I've used my own cell phone number, I've purchased prepaid phones with dedicated numbers, and I've used dedicated 800 numbers as the primary way to contact me over the phone.  Out of all 3 of these methods, I've found that the 800 number ALWAYS works better because people see the 800 and know you're a business and not a single person trying to act like a business (even if you really are lol).

In this discussion, I'll be going over how Grasshopper is crucial when it comes to running your own business from home or if you have a few employees but not an office to work out of.

Choosing the right number
When it comes to choosing the right number, you're sort of limited to what Grasshopper offers you.  You'll get to choose from a limited library of phone numbers, but that's not a bad thing at all because they'll all be 800 numbers Using Grasshopper with your cell phone to have a dedicated business line  So, choose the one that has the best ring to it or has multiples of the same number in a row so it's easier to remember and looks more professional.

When you've picked your new 800 number, move on to setting up your custom greeting.

Setting up your custom greeting
When it comes to your custom greeting, you don't have to get too fancy, just be sure to thank the person for calling and let them know what you do.  Sure, they will know who you are and what you do, but you need to recap it so they know for sure they called the right number.

In your custom greeting, you can say something along the lines of "Thank you for calling (your company name)" then go into your specific departments or employees.

Add departments and employees
If you're running a business that has multiple departments or employees, you'll likely want to add some extensions so people can get in touch with someone that can answer their questions right away without having to be redirected.  If you're adding departments, you'll normally have something like Sales, Questions, Billing, etc.  If you're setting up extensions for your employees, you'll just add something like Jack, Jill, Mark, Mary, etc.

With each extension, you'll need to say something that identifies it, such as:  "For the sales department, press 1" "To talk with Jill press 392" or whatever you'd like it to say that is unique for the person or department the caller is trying to reach.

Get Calls, Faxes, and Voicemails directly to your cell phone
The beauty of Grasshopper is that you can get not only calls, but you can get faxes and voicemails as well, which expands the possibilities of your business.  I've never used the fax option, because I don't get faxes, but I have used the call and voicemail feature plenty of times to know it's pretty great Using Grasshopper with your cell phone to have a dedicated business line  I'll get a call through my 800 number and know exactly what website it's coming from, I can even send it right to my custom voicemail to capture the users information.  Normally I pick up and talk to anyone that calls, but there are certain situations that don't allow me to like when I'm sleeping or if I'm out to eat with my family.

In conclusion
Setting up an 800 number for your business or website use to be extremely difficult because you needed a bunch of hardware and needed a company to set everything up.  With the advancement in technology over the last few years, we've been noticing the reduction in costs for systems like this, and with Grasshopper it's super affordable and all you need is a cell phone Using Grasshopper with your cell phone to have a dedicated business line  I'm sure there are more companies out there that do what grasshopper does, but I've had a great time using their service and would recommend them to anyone running a website.

You know, until this post I never really considered the importance of telephone numbers when it comes to professionalism. Thinking back, I realize just how much people actually notice the details in phone numbers. Many times when I gave out my phone numbers, I'd receive subtle comments such as "So that's a cellphone", or "Oh, that's a landline", or "Interesting area code." People really take notice of these subtleties.

I suppose it is quite similar to having a professional email. You wouldn't--or at least you shouldn't--use [email protected] as the contact email on your website.

I have several emails that I use for specific purposes. You are right with the business email that it can give the public a semblance of seriousness. Aside from my business email, I also have a personal email that I use for my communication with friends and relatives. It is my official email as far as the people in my circle are concerned. There are other emails that I have and one is for roaming the internet that I use mainly for testing the websites that I find interesting.

I’ve actually done the same thing. Whenever I need to handle something professionally, like freelancing work, networking, or a business deal, I use my business email account that I opened on Gmail. I think it really helps people take you more seriously.

On the other hand, for newsletters, internet accounts, and just general internet browsing purposes, I just use the standard Outlook account that I opened when I got my computer. It also helps keep things nice and organized and reduces the risk of me not noticing an important email among all the spam and trash that I get on my personal account.

This is really well put on how to stay well appraised on all your business activities. I actually love when I see a unique business number as a means of reaching the company. It appeals to callers observations and facilitates easy remembering of the number.

The custom greeting is must because it's one way of showing the proposed client that you are not rude, and that their satisfaction is among your top priorities. Even with websites, it's best to have an automated welcoming message forwarded to anyone who registers on your site.

I never heard of grasshopper. It is good to know about it. I think automated systems are most probably coming down in price due to the fact that they are so widely utilized now. You make a good point about needing to appear professional, and a phone system properly utilized can give you this benefit.

I have also never heard of grasshopper.I have not associated my phone numbers with my website. However, I am thinking to add my phone number on my portfolio website. However, I might get a new number for this purpose. I do not want to use my primary phone number and expose to various risks.

Yes, maybe you could look into the grasshopper service. I guess you would have to do a cost benefit analysis to see if it would be worth the cost to do so, although it doesn't sound like it would be very much.

I can find many low cost telephone service on the internet, however, my problem is I cannot subscribe to most of these services because I am not based in the US. Whether the service is available in my area or not is also my primary concern for using the grasshopper service

I agree that the 1-800 phone number commands respect and has an image of a legitimate business. In fact, whenever I would see a business with that prefix, I always imagine that it’s a big business that is international. And if my business is big then maybe I need to have an extra phone for that 1-800 number which will be the official business phone number that is toll free so there is no hesitation on the part of the callers.

I recently learned about the systems like grasshopper. Earlier I only knew that Google voice and Skype were giving such free number. And it was one of the good service. And I have found out many business were doing good with that. I don't know how many people choose it. But it seems like a good service in that context.

Grasshoper is a good service when it comes to providing some unique numbers for business. It is not something that we are going to say that you can just easily get working well for us when we are looking at alternatives, but the type of services that they offer is a sign that everything is going to be fine when we make use of their services.

Yes the whatsapp and facebook calls are not worth for the local phone calls. So grasshopper fills that gap. And people use it for the business. You can see that having such line for business phone calls need to be taken seriously better. I think some small startups make use of it for building the startups.

Having a unique number is always going to be the basis when we are talking about firms that want to prove that they are moving in the right direction. I have come to realize that you are not going to make things work better till you are ready to make the necessary steps that will help you to determine the type of success that you want at the end of the day.
