How to start a blog as a working mom

When you're a working mom, you probably don't have all the spare time to research how to set up a great blog and start publishing content. If you want to make money, or you just want to publish content for the masses to read, you will need to focus on a few things prior to getting started with your blog. The first thing that everyone will need is a hosting account, but you'll need to choose your niche before you purchase a domain, and then you'll need to tie everything together in one place. After that, you'll need to get a logo designed, or even have it made before you have the blog up and running, and have it ready to upload when you go live!

Setting up a blog isn't the most difficult thing to do for most people who have been working with websites for a few years, but for a working mom who doesn't have the time to research everything, it's a difficult task that could be stressful. You might not know where to purchase your domain, you might not know how to pick a niche, you might not know where to get hosting, and you might not have a clue about premium WordPress themes. Don't worry, I'll be going over all of this in the following discussion, and you should be able to make a better decision on where to get everything you need in order to get up and running.

Pick a niche you're familiar with

When you're choosing a domain name, you'll want it to be short and sweet so it's easier to remember and better for branding, but it's not a deal breaker if the domain has a few words in it Think of something catchy, and that rings well to the ear, and you'll likely have a great domain on your hands that people can remember.

Get a great logo designed
I preach this a lot, but you'll need to have a great logo made for you so you can look more professional. If you think you'll be just fine making a logo in MS paint, you're horribly wrong and you should just stop now lol. Check out what your competitors are using for their logos and see if there is a common trend. Sure, you could use a free theme that is offered to you as soon as you upload WordPress to your hosting account, but you'll look less professional than 95% of your competition. You'll always want to run a premium theme, that was designed with love, so you can look better than most of your competitors and your visitors will instantly see you as a professional.

You can hire a programmer to design a theme for you, or you can purchase a theme from a big marketplace like ThemeForest.net. I purchase all of my themes there because they're usually cheaper than other platforms, and they give you a ton of free plugins with the more popular themes on there You can save money on the theme as well as get a bunch of free plugins that customize your website a lot

When you're a working mom, you don't have all the spare time you normally would if you were a stay at home mom taking care of kids. Well, even then you might not have a lot of spare time so I guess this discussion could be targeted towards stay at home moms as well Anyway, if you're staying at home or working a full-time schedule, it's not always the easiest thing to set up a blog if you're just starting out. You'll need a good domain, good hosting, a professional looking logo, and a premium theme to be seen as a professional within your niche and get people to trust you instantly when they land on your pages

This is a great idea that moms around the world should be really looking at taking. The reality of this type of publisher is that you can get to even discuss how the day is going and how the kids are doing.

Having that unlimited access to make contents is a good way for those moms to continue making quality contents that will bring more visitors to their blog.

Remember that you are still a mom first before a blogger, especially when your children are still babies or toddlers and you have to stay at home taking care of them. I see some mothers very stressed about looking for topics to blog that they forget about properly taking care of the kids. In other cases, some use their children for the blogs even when some of the blog posts are actually child neglect because of the things they do to the children. You can still blog about your babies but make your posts more classy and more relatable to other mothers and even to those who are still single. and your blog is more likely to gain audience rather than blogging your kids simply for the attention.

If you are a mom, you may not be able to do a full-time job, however, you can easily do a part time job. Doing a part time job in a company might pose some problem because you need some one to look after the baby when you have gone to work. The best option is blogging. You can remain in your home and work only your blog when your baby is sleeping.

Well, it may take a lot of time to actually earn from blogging, or you may never earn good money. However, if you are actually serious, the blogging experience is amazing. Imagine you have a baby and the baby suddenly began to walk. This is a very important incident for you. Now you want to teach your child how to take baby steps. If you have a blog, you can share your experience with other moms. Your knowledge might help them. You can build an amazing community of moms, once you develop readership, you can sell affiliate products.

Yeah, some people may get discouraged when they don't earn immediately through blogging, but with hardwork and passion for it, you can make it work. Documenting your journey as a mom is certainly one of the easier and best topics to talk about as a mother, although you have to really stand out from the others since other moms also have their own blog about these topics.

You start a blog today and you expect to earn tomorrow. This kind of thought does not work in the blogging sphere. It takes months, even years to see income from blogging. I have been blogging on my self-hosted blogs since two years and still, I have not been able to earn substantial money.
Blogging does not pay you immediately. It takes time to build revenue on your blog. The first requirement of blogging is publishing useful and informative articles. second requirement is optimizing your blog for search engines. Third is promoting your blog. You should first consider bringing regular traffic, then only you can thing about money

There is truth to what you said about a mother somehow neglecting the baby due to the panicky situation in writing a new blog. When you run out of ideas for your blogging your mind tends to wander that you seem to forget your chores at home. But I believe that a mother who forgets her baby is an exception and not the rule because mothers have the instinct to give priority to their baby over all things.

You could do it in minutes go to WordPress, WIX, Ghost or Tumblr. Make a simple site and write beautiful content and that my friend would start your blogging career. If your new to the game its best to go for what's free. No need to spend a lot of money to set things up.

Actually, it does not cost much to start a self hosted blog. You can get a domain under a dollar and hosting for $1 a month. If you do not want to have a website, you can try article writing site. Find a trustworthy site and start publishing articles. By doing this you will be able to make money as well ad build your brand.

I would only recommend trying out free blogging when you are still just trying to get a hang of what the whole thing is all about, then afterwards with more knowledge on how to do it well, now the interested individual can go on with paid hosting in order to get better service to help with the blogging.

Contrarily, I believe why to spend time in free blogging even if you are using it for a learning process. You can start with self-hosted blog and monetize your blog from day one. You spent six months on a free blog and now you want to get started with self hosted blog, your six months of hard work on the free blog is wasted. Using free blog is just like living in rented apartment and self hosted blog is just like living in your own house. Do you want to spend time and effort in the rented house or in your own home? The choice is yours.

Yes, I would start simply and gain a following, then expand the blog a bit. It really depends on how much time you can and want to devote to the blog as to how far you want to go with it. Blogger is another platform that can be used to start a basic blog with little time or effort involved.

This is really a good way that you sister can get to make lots of money once she is balanced as a blogger and her blog being popular. The key factor is putting in the work at the beginning of the blogging and watch how everything will work out fine at the end of the day. I am a blogger and my wife is a teacher. My wife is also a working mon. Since some time I am trying to teach her blogging. I even bought a domain for her and have told her that she can use my hosting subscription. Since she is a teacher she can make her lessons as blog posts and ask her students to check her blog. This will not only ease her work, but she will also get traffic to her blog and make some money. However, she is dilly-dallying to get started with blogging.

I am not a "working mom", but all of your advice here, more or less, could appeal to and help any beginning blogger! Picking a familiar niche is smart for any blogger or creator of content, of course. You come across as more confident and with a stronger tone when you are familiar with your material, so this is always a great place to start from. Also, if you are not constantly steeped in the middle of doing research, you can devote that time to more editing and production of your own content which you are already a mastermind at yourself. You can become YOUR OWN AUTHORITY on your subject matter and then generate a buzz doing that!

I am a "working dad" if you allow this term to be used. (actually, all dads are working das, except few exceptions). My wife is a working mon. However, she is doing a part time work because the child still feeds on her breasts. She has to nurse the child a couple of times in a day and she cannot have a full-time job. If you are a mom and you cannot work because your child needs you, I think working from home is the best option. You can find a lot of working from home jobs, however, if you want to work independently, blogging is the best option for moms who have to look after their child. A mom can start a blog on parenting, gardening, home decoration, baby food, recipe etc.

I am seeing a lot of blogs these days coming out as a finance blogger or mommy blogger doing something. And they seem to be making a lot of money. And that can be good. But they are just speculating on things. Lot of things they do is just turning out to be nothing more than the experiment. If mommy blogger blogs were to work there needs more traffic for sure.

I think finding a good theme on wordpress for such niche can be hard. In case of mommy blogs. they need better design. And making such sites is not that easy. So I guess we have to check out what may or may not work out on the mommy blogs design. That would retain the visitors.

True, the blog need to have a good design and the theme has to match with the niche. There are lots of free and premium Wordpress themes are available, however, finding a theme that actually matches your blog niche can be really difficult. Most of the mommy blogs I have see have a basic design. While the content is interesting, the design is poor. The first thing that captivates a visitor is a good design. Therefore, niche bloggers should also consider investing in themes.

I'm by no means a working mom (as that would require me to be both of the female gender and have a kid) but I think that really just about anyone looking to start a blog could find this advice useful. As someone aspiring to do so, I certainly do.

Currently the biggest issue I'm facing is determining which hosting site I'm going to choose. It would be cool to see a guide from you for recommended hosting sites for someone just starting out in blogging. I think this is the number one thing that is holding me back at the moment.

I'd like to know which sites provide the best service for the lowest cost, as I don't really want to invest much into it at first. Any advice from experienced bloggers is appreciated.

I think this is also applicable to working students, or who needs additional income. But for a working mom it's gonna be hard for them, but this is very helpful. If they become successful in a blogging career, all they need is to stay in their home and work with their kids. Bus as a working mom like my friends, it's gonna be hard to start, my friend don't even know to divide her time between work and kids, because of lack of time.

Yeah this is something that just struck me as well. A lot of my friends are starting to have kids, and along with that they've also started complaining about how much time it takes to care for a baby. Then on top of that they have jobs as well, and they're honestly at the point where they barely have time to enjoy anything. From what I've heard and read, it takes a lot of effort and patience to actually make money from blogging, so trying to slot in time for that as well could be practically impossible for some people.

If your basically a stay at home mom there's a lot of online work you can do and Blogging is one of them and it's one of the best I could suggest for working stay at home mom's because you can make your content from your daily experience as a mom. I very much agree with what you said about blogging being a very good job opportunity for stay home mothers than working mothers. For example, stay home mothers would have the time and freedom to concentrate on the blogging than working mothers. The only other responsibilities awaiting stay home mothers is taking care of her children when she can easily do since she is at home but working mothers have divided attention of work and home duties as well, and adding the blogging tasks as well is definitely going to be too much job for the woman.

However, the only requirement is the passion for blogging, writing skills, knowledge on SEO, and website management skills. If you have passion, learning other skills are not very hard. You can find many free and paid courses that teach you how to start a blog, how to manage a website, how to do SEO etc.
If you have part-time job or are jobless, it will be little easy to manage and operate a blog than when you have a full time job. However, you don't need a lot of time to manage a blog. All you have to do is find time to write and publish and do the marketing.

100%. If you aren't inspired or motivated then there is no point doing something like this because you will just end up doing it incorrectly or not even going far with it. Motivation is extremely important because it allows you to push yourself and make your blog even better. And having an actual interest in it means that you will actually want to work on your blog and not just give up

If you are a working mum, then I would also recommend choosing a niche that you don't have to always post content for and can just post articles from time to time when you are free. For example, if you choose fashion or even daily local news then you need to ensure that you update your blog every day and regularly because otherwise your visitors may end up not coming back and visiting a competitor.

If the person is truly new and has no blogging experience I think they should start with everything free. When I first started blogging I noticed blogs that I followed changed their names. I realized that they had started first using the free blogging and app and I guess when they gained confidence they took the next step and purchased a domain, a template, etc. I like their blogs even better! I also marked the change as a success milestone for them.

I agree with you, and that was the only choice that I had when I started out on thisonline and freelancing venture. I am still learning more and more, every day, how to effectively monetize what I am doing, and starting out with whatever free resources that I could gave me the ability to get my "sea legs" in this venture without investing and losing a lot of money due to my in-experience. I think that your advice here is great, and I am glad I was (supposedly) smart enough to start out the way I did even before I got this good advice from people like you.

In my views the best to start with is own domain and then hosting then install WordPress and use this as your blogging platform. WordPress is easy to use and SEO friendly with excellent themes and plugins.

I would advice you to write first to test the waters. It's better to create atleast 5 to 10 blog articles first before you make your Blogsite. Doing this would give you several weeks to perfect your site without having to worry about making and adding content to your site.

If you have children, you know what a nightmare it is to get work done, especially if you have young kids. I think the best advise for working moms apart from the technicalities of starting a blog is how to get free time to write a blog, in short tips on time management. Alternatively they can hire someone to write their blog. I also think they should blog on their life. This will save them alot of time researching other topics.

I agree with the selection of the niche that should be close to your heart. It is very difficult to be blogging when the niche is not in your passion much more when you are not well-versed with it. When I started blogging, I was very comfortable with the topics that I was writing because the niche was pets and dogs are my passion. And even after a year of blogging, I was still doing great with my writing. No sweat, as they say, when you are writing about topics that you love.

I have learned a lot from this post. Time is the main aspect here. The child needs more time and the mom's sleeping pattern will vary. So I agree that time is very limited and I would advise to implement all this points after the child is 1 or 2 years old depending on the needs.

I'm not a mom yet but I really wanted to have my own blog someday. My friend had a blog before but he needed to close it down to cut some loses. He actually offered me to be the admin on his blog but I needed to turn down the offer because I was too busy doing some other things. I need to learn so many things before I can come up with my own blog so I won't experience the same thing that happened to my friend.

It appears easy and effortless but a lot of work goes into setting up and running a blog. Research and original content will give your blog a level of credibility that will bring and keep people interested. As a mum, you might have lots of ideas to improve your blog but the time to put all those ideas into action is not always available. It will take lots of planning and determination to succeed
