Why Facebook ads annoy me 90% of the time

We've all been on Facebook and have seen plenty of advertisements on our news feed whether it been in actual feed or off to the side.  If you haven't seen any of these, you probably have a great ad blocker and should be sharing it with everyone here lol Why Facebook ads annoy me 90% of the time  If you're like me, you usually don't worry about ads popping up because you have "banner blindness" and don't see them even if they are there lol.

Ads on Facebook are evolving, and it's not even a good evolution, because it seems that Facebook is letting almost everyone pay them for a placement.  Sure, I get it, you want your website to get some traffic and possibly some sales, but it's starting to get pretty annoying when I see a bunch of crap (when my banner blindness isn't working) showing up in my news feed lol.  I've written up this discussion because I've only gotten annoyed from the ads that are showing up every single day, and below are he main things I noticed.

Most of them are click-bait
Whenever I accidentally click on one of these ads, most of the time it's click-bait.  I get sent to a registration form for something that wasn't even talked about in the ad itself.  Think about it, if you click on something that promises you the stars, and then you get sent to a registration form, you're going to be pretty annoyed lol.  I'm sure these advertisers get a decent amount of sign ups for the length of their advertisement, but to me it seems like this should be breaking the terms of service set by Facebook.   I'm not sure how long these ads are live, maybe I'm the only one seeing them lol, but I feel like I see a few every month and it gets more annoying each time I click on these links on purpose or by accident lol.

Most of them don't fulfill promises
I've actually clicked on some of these links that promise certain things and they never fulfill these promises in the long run.  Recently there was one ad that I saw which said "We write your content for free!" so I was intrigued and clicked.  I then signed up for their services and quickly found out that I get 100 words of free content and then I have to pay $20 for every 500 words lmao Why Facebook ads annoy me 90% of the time

This could fall under clickbait as well, but it's not as bad since they actually gave me something even though I didn't redeem it.  After I noticed this, I went back to the ad and commented "So I get 100 words of content and then I have to pay $20 for every 500 words?  Shouldn't you change up your ad text so you're not offering empty promises?  You're basically taking advantage of people who need help."  I then noticed the either banned me from posting on their ad or they took the ad down completely lol Why Facebook ads annoy me 90% of the time

Most have "I've PM'd You" messages
This annoys the hell out of me.  Most of the ads I see have the advertiser answering to questions with "PM sent" or some variation of that.  When I see this I instantly think that they are just hiding information from the masses and they don't want their pricing to be seen or they're afraid to talk in public.

If I ask a question on an ad and I get the response "PM sent" I will screenshot the PM I received and paste it into the comment section of where I asked the initial question.  I will then ask "Why couldn't you just answer me here where I asked?  I'm sure a lot of people would like to know as well."

This could be happening because the company really does want to hide something or they just don't know what they're doing.  They could also have a support system they're trying to refer people to, but if you do this, you will lose sales because people want to get answers to their questions where they asked the question.

Most of them use images that don't relate
This has been spreading like the plague across the internet.  A lot of times you'll see a pretty woman or a stack of money that is only there to get your attention, and when you click through, the content doesn't relate to the image itself (also click-bait).  This has started to show up even more than normal on Facebook, especially with all of the ads I see lol, and I could see a happy couple image for an SEO service or a beach front image for a business website ad.  There is no text on these images either, just pictures that don't direct you in any sort of way.

I get it, you want people to imagine they are the people in your ad or you want them to imagine they're on that beach or exotic location in the image, but you'll likely get a better response if you use your image for what it's intended for lol.

Most of them are from pop up sites
I recently did a search and noticed that around 60% of the websites I see advertising on Facebook are relatively new.  They may not be a day or two old, but they're definitely younger than 4 months lol.  I know that many companies use Facebook when they're starting off because it's a great platform, but it can't be just me who is seeing all these random 1 page websites being pushed through Facebook lol.

This could just be people setting up websites and testing them out, but 60% of them?  I checked 100 different websites and 60 of them were babies in terms of website age lol Why Facebook ads annoy me 90% of the time

In Conclusion
Facebook ads can be annoying, but in my case they are getting to be too much.  It's likely due to my profile and everything I "like", and that would make perfect sense since people can target me based on my profile itself, which is a basic PPC trick that newbie advertisers would use.  I just need to see how many people are actually seeing the same things I am lol Why Facebook ads annoy me 90% of the time

I've seen most of these ads and it's disheartening when some of them couldn't make good explanation of what we are to expect by purchasing their products and that's not the good way to advertise.

Most times, I believe those ads are simply meant to generate traffic by simply clicking on them. I don't think they are seriously ready to make any sales.

The aspect that annoys me the most I actually cause myself. The laptop I am using was initially used by Noah to record the animals... anyway, due to the "lag" I inadvertently end up clicking on the ad by mistake. It then takes about three minutes to load, succeed in freezing what I was actually trying to work on. This is the stage where I promptly do the adult thing and shut everything in an attempt to shut the pop-up.
Then, because I clicked on it FaceBook thinks I am interested and sends me loads more.

Really, that would have actually made you feel sour. What I try to do is not to rush with work on my computer screen whenever working because I would accidentally click those crazy ads and it will redirect me to one useless page.

Facebook is full of scammers in general. Words with Friends the Zynga game is full of them. Also, I have a room for rent advertised and only half of them have been legitimate people from the area. The rest are people trying to run some kind of con. It is pretty disheartening really.

One thing we have to understand is that it is a social media where you get to meet lots of people, both the good and the bad. We've got to be careful while dealing with them to avoid stories.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
@Brida I do think that the bad ones now outweigh the good ones because the rate of scammers are madly increasing on daily basis.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
This is a pure truth, recently lots of people now take to social media especially Facebook to try and scam people. If you aren't careful with how you accept friends request and connect with people you don't know, there is a huge chance of falling into their trap.

One thing is they tend to use alot of the same words, and the same MO. Once you have one of them figured out it is easier to spot the rest of them. People that follow the same pattern time after time I won't have anything to do with.

It's very important to keep a watchful eye when dealing with people you aren't familiar with online. Not everything that glitters are gold, some are wolves in sheep clothing.

The click-bait is really annoying and this is mostly done by scammers and sometimes in a bid to find out what the ads are all about one will pick viruses ana malware that could corrupt one's files.it very annoying and people spamming one's timeliness with irrelevant posts.it can be very annoying.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yeah, I agree.. I think Facebook needs to do a better job of weeding out people who are legimate people trying to promote products and those who are just out to scam for what they can get. It is a shame you can't rely on FB to do that more.

The only advertising I have done on facebook is boost feature. I have bosted my posts (that links to the product I am selling) or the pages (that links to my websites). I once tried to create a facebook ad but it was rejected because of "too many text" on the image. The product I was trying to advertise was an ebook. After the rejection, I never tried to post ad, instead I use boost feature.

The series of rules that guides placing ads on Facebook can be frustrating at times, but we've got to understand that they are trying to reduce cases of scams as well and it's sad that the good people are affected.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think sometimes links are not approved to be posted or advertised on Facebook. I have had one experience, I tried sharing one of my links to a product I'm selling but I got a pop up notification that I'm trying to spam. So I quit trying in order not to have my account blocked from posting for a particular period of time.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

If Facebook could do that to known scams then they would be making progress with all the scams that are posted daily.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Yes, definitely I believe should all links be double checked before approval, it's going to put an end to lots of scams flooding the social network.

What do you mean about too many texts as the reason for the rejection of your ad? Does Facebook Ad has a limit on the number of words for the advertisement. I know that the Facebook Ad has a format size that is similar to the design of the regular post so that the ad will not appear like an ad and sometimes it can be mistaken to be a post of a friend which has the tendency to be clicked by accident.

I think Facebook ads and boosting works if the person paying for them takes it seriously. Some people don't put much thought into the ads themselves - then wonder why they aren't seeing results. Also one idea is to pour money into FB ads and boosting so you can gain FB likes and friends. Once you gain enough of those then you should start advertising your affiliate links to your already existing audience. FB ads aren't for selling things. They're for expanding your audience of which you can then sell things to later on.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
You are absolutely right with this statement, if those paying for the ads are very much serious about them, it's definitely going to be useful to those clicking it because it's going to offer something at the end of it.

I have seen a lot of ads blending in as a post. And a lot of ads are just mixed with the content. So I think it's not easy to spot the content in the Facebook for that reason. You can see that Facebook ads are a bit harder to manage. I have seen most of the people making use of the ads for mostly direct promotion. Some take the ad to the shopping cart. And that also works some of the time.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
@overcast this is exactly what I thought, Facebook ads are mainly for promotion and that's it. Simply to generate traffic is what I believe that they are made for.

Although some actually would direct you to good sites where you can actually buy things but it's just a few among them.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes mostly they are annoyance though. I understand people need ads. But the way things are having these days. You can surely see the usage of the ads in the wrong places. Also I think blending the ads and not letting people know they are ads is wrong. They use "sponsored" as word instead.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Haha, people can be very mischievous with how they do things, but anyways it's their time they are wasting where I'm concerned. If they are lucky enough to get one mistake click from me in day, then they should rejoice.

I have also noticed that a lot of Facebook videos and the images are boring. And they seem to be attracting people of that type into it. So you can get the idea that some of the time Facebook does have it;s set of the issues. And we have to be really careful about those things.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Well, I don't get worked up when I see stuff like this associated with ads on Facebook, that's why it is called advertisement, it to lure and entice people to take action it could be by crook or by hook.Anyway just to get noticed and the viewers to take action. The issue of click-bait is very common with ads, it to lure one to take action, though it can be annoying but that's the whole idea.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Yeah, I simply get used to seeing those ads without feeling bugged by them. At first, to be honest I had issues with it especially Google ads but with time I grew over it and it's just like nothing to me now.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I hate facebook ads because they don't have adsense like program. And they don't like publishers making money. Google atleast has the Youtube program. And it allows sharing of the money. But that is not the case with the other programs. So that is what I feel when it comes to watching the ads from facebook.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

No reasonable person would compare Google aspects with Facebook, Google is way too better from my point of view and it helps very well with SEO.

Facebook ads annoy me because they are placed in between posts that I'm interested in. I don't log in to Facebook to view ads but to interact with friends. I typically had to scroll past the ads to view my friends' posts. However, Facebook is free and will always be because of these ads so I must learn to live with the fact that they're here to stay.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Good points here, and I use facebook for similar purposes as you. I have noticed that it seems that the ads are more and more catered to my online content and actions these days, but I know that this is just how things are now, and this will continually escalate with the robots watching our behaviors in this new "smart" world. Your point about how facebook needs the ads to finance its operation is also very true and it only makes sense.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
You said this well @JoeMilford, those ads are on Facebook for a reason and Facebook equally needs it to make some profit as well because nothing goes for free in this world.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Judas2018
Better to get ads catered to what you are, might be or currently are looking for to buy or purchase. Instead of ads that aren't appealing to you at all. It's a lot more helpful and less obnoxious. Too bad Youtube hasn't figured this out yet.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I normally don't get many Facebook ads unless I just searched for something on E-bay or Amazon. Then I visit Facebook and get the "still interested?" ad for either website.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Seriously, what kind of Facebook application are you using? Is it Facebook lite?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Judas2018
It's probably because I don't refresh the page a lot. I normally land on Facebook - then keep scrolling down and LIKING or REPLYING to anything I feel I want to. Then of course I visit my brands official page to see if anything needs tending to. Then I send out a few posts and schedule a few others. Then I move on.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
That's basically what goes on in Facebook, either it's posting, liking or replying. Now you can even stream live video as it's happening.

😂😂😂 a big laugh on what you just said, I thought I was the only one who saw that, there are times when you try to ignore it then you mistakenly click on it 😒 it can be really annoying.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Haha, @Adeswa08 it's actually when you are trying to be too fast or you are probably trying to meet up with a deadline and before you know it, boom you have clicked on the ad and you are what the hell just happened (LOL 😂)

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Well, it's actually meant to be that way, people would always make use of the opportunity afforded to them by social media to gain any from of advertising or advantage.

What you said about the "PM SENT", really annoys me too. I mean, the ad had me interested enough to click, and then my next step is to look for the comment section to see if real people/user actually tried or inquired and if the owner did give more details to the ad, and then you'll see, "I've sent you a private message". And you are right, i will immediately think that they're hiding something. Although they do it because they don't want competitors to see what they got. But truthfully, I lose interest when they don't answer directly.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I have experienced this a couple of times and it really annoyed me so much that I regretted ever trying to know if the ad was a legit one. This is trending lately on Facebook and seriously I'm not enjoying it but I literally don't have any choice as long as I'm still interested in using Facebook.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Haha same experience with me. But hey, as long as Facebook is useful for me, I'm not complaining hard. Why Facebook ads annoy me 90% of the time

Another ad type is the page messenger. They enable the page messenger the moment we call the follow on those pages. It can be really annoying. And we dont even have to do that. It can be really boring on that side.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Haha, there is no need for getting annoyed, it's a trending thing now going on in almost all social media and not just Facebook. I have gotten used to it so I simply ignore it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

When I go through social media the ads that pop up are just so annoying, I think Facebook needs to control all these things because of how inconvenient it can be, I use CM browser to Facebook at times.

The Facebook app don't have ad sense that much, it depends on you to click, another annoying one is thing is when you click on some links that caught your attention most times it all turns out false.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
If Facebook can limit this occurrence, definitely it's going to be helpful but should they pay a deaf ear to people's requests, then we will have to deal with it and move on.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

You are definitely not the only one. The Facebook targeting system is like no other, you can target just about anything. One thing that
annoys me, as I have probably mentioned before is the scams.

A lot of ads on Facebook are 100% scams. No validity in them at all. I
wish I had the numbers but the amount of ads that are created on a daily
basis, along with the creation of new websites a day it's hard to tell
unless you are privy to that information.

A lot of ads I see are money making ads, because it's what I am interested in, and what niche I
sell in. It really puts a lot of negative attention in the "make money
online" niche because a lot of people just assume things are a scam or
sometimes even illegal when that is the furthest from the truth. It is
very hard to get people to look away from that aspect due to these
fraudulent ones that create ads for scams.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

AmieBotella
Sadly, I don't see Facebook team will ever filter these out because they are paying scammers. All we need to be is be vigilant in determining scams and be truthful to our craft at the same time because like it or not, Facebook only cares about the sales they're generating whether from legitimate sources or scammers and we are always given the choice to get bought by the ad or not.

Facebook was once a peaceful online community and the endless advertisements made facebook an instant annoying application. To be honest, I really liked the idea of Mark Zuckerberg creating facebook for us people around the world to connect and interact with each other. But it has gotten to a point where it became a toxic environment for me because of the nonsense conversations, fake rumors, adult videos, and some gruesome content. It was no longer effective and healthy for the people that are using the app especially the minors. Sooner, when they've decided to add an advertisement, they made it really worse and I had to stop using it. Overall, facebook is now just seen as a business profit for people like Mark Zuckerberg.

That PM thing really gets me annoyed too. When someone replies that they have or will private message me then I know for sure that the person is hiding something and doesn't want everyone on Facebook to see what they have said. I love it when people ask me a question on my Facebook page, it gives me not only a chance to reply to that person but it also gives me an opportunity to have everyone else see that question and answer. Who wouldn't love this? Well those PM people lol.

I have also found many of the ads I click on to be clickbait and popup sites. The confusing thing is that a little while back I read that Facebook was going to be doing this massive clampdown on clickbait. I also read that they were going to be clamping down on unrelated images for ads? It seems that this is not happening and they are failing dismally on their promises?

I've also noticed that they have relaxed their advertising policies, or rather not their policy but following through. I've been sent to the most appalling sites!

I used to love Facebook and I spent a lot of my marketing efforts there but in the last year or so I have stopped being so enthusiastic. I am finding that there is more and more rubbish on Facebook all the time, plus I am finding my conversion rates are lower than they used to be. I would rather spend my time focusing on content marketing and SEO than try and compete with all the clickbait and rubbish on Facebook.

Sometimes I also read some business advertisements particularly real estate that a Facebook friend is selling. But I am really annoyed upon reading the comments on inquiries about the price and some details on the location with the usual reply of PM or Check your pm. I agree that it is like being mysterious so you will react but my time is more valuable than sending the poster a PM because I am not the buyer although I am interested because I know of a friend who is a prospective buyer. Being secretive with the price of what you are selling is a negative factor.

Yes, I am often get annoyed from the facebook ads but I just ignore it because whether we like it or not, it'll appear to our newsfeed especially if the advertisement is 'sponsored' which means that it is being paid to appear to all facebook users. Thankfully I only encountered few ads in my newsfeed because most of the posts in my newsfeed are from my different pages of a certain mobile game that I liked.

Ads on my account don't popup every minute. Let's say that maybe 10% only appear every time I browse facebook. Sometimes I just ignore them but some ads are also worth visiting. What I don't like about the ads are every video I watch there is at least one or more ads poping up.

I agree. They also annoy me. Facebook needs to have ads in a less intrusive way. It is especially annoying if you don't have wifi and if you are using internet credits as we do in my Country and half your credit is taken by viewing ads that you did not ask for. I think that sometimes Facebook allows its appetite for money to takeover and that's why they are loosing their audience really fast. However if the ads are helpful, sometimes I don't mind.
