We all want to be extremely successful online, and that's why we constantly push ourselves. Everyone sees success stories of how someone turned $500 into $5,000,000 but they never really see the entire story which includes the ups, as well as the downs, and the idea of being successful online seems to be easily obtainable. This is a Motivation Monday post, so I'm targeting you people who are just starting off as well as the ones who have been grinding for years, and only seeing a little bit of success and thinking if you should tap out or keep pushing.
I'll use myself as an example for this discussion. I don't see myself as successful at all, and maybe that's why I push myself constantly, I want to make more money today than I did yesterday and that's enough to push me from day to day. In the beginning I started off with a free website made by a friend who thought I wasn't going to make any money at all in my industry. I would come home from work and do anything I could online to make a few bucks here and there, but nothing seemed to click.
Fast forward 3 years down the road and I now have enough knowledge to set up my own websites, optimize them, write my own high quality content as well as bring in a writer to help out, and even run some great PPC campaigns. For the first 3 years I didn't make much, or anything at all, from month to month but after that it seemed like I turned on a light switch. I loved doing the SEO and optimization for my own websites so I decided to open up my very first SEO serivce and set up an extremely basic website selling some backlink packages. I didn't think I would make much money at the time, but I set up a PPC campaign on Adwords and started it at around $5 or $10 a day to see what it would do. I didn't make any sales within the first few hours and then I went to bed. I then woke up to $300 profit becuase I was making money while I was asleep since websites don't actually sleep lol
I was doing almost all of the SEO and backlinking myself and didn't really outsource anything. I eventually go too many orders that I could handle myself and I had to bring in a business partner, one of my best friends who happened to have an engineering degree, which meant he was pretty smart lol. He turned my 16 hour days and cut them down to just 3 hours by automating the work I had to do. He even automated it even more after that and I didn't have to focus on emails, orders, or disputes. I was now in charge of generating sales and building new websites in order to branch out
Now, it isn't all rainbows and sunshine because I made one crucial mistake. I relied too much on Adwords and saw it as my Golden Goose, but after just 10 months of advertising, we were banned without reason. We constantly asked what we had did wrong and what we could do to change the status of our account back to active, but no one would talk to us. After about 6 months we got in touch with an adwords account manager and he basically said that the content on our website claimed we guaranteed an increase in rankings, and they didn't like that, so they banned us. We edited the content on our website but they wouldn't accept our re-submission for acceptance, so basically we were screwed
We were investing $100 a day into adwords, which is roughly $3,000 a month, just to have Google send us traffic! They didn't really care though, since $3,000 a month is not much compared to the companies who are spending $500,000 a month
Yes, this is a Motivational Monday post!
I didn't let Google get me down, instead, I decided to figure out how I could get my ads in front of potential buyers and it opened up so many more doors lol. It was like a blessing in disguise, sort of, because I now had multiple revenue streams after learning not to trust a single ad platform for sales. We then branched out to BingAds (adcenter back then), BuySellAds, contacting website owners and partnering with them, social media ads, blogging 1,000% more than we were, and much more. After I started to do all of this, I fealt like I was getting overworked again but I was ok with it since we had boosted our sales to the same amount they were at when we were just on Google Adwords
I do look back on the times when we were on Adwords and think "Man, what if I knew about Google hating our content and edited it before we got banned. How much could we have been making now?". I can't let that get me down though, I have to keep fighting for new customers and strive to be better every day
There were plenty of ups and downs with my own company, and I know plenty of other companies have dealt with the same things, so I think it's funny when I see these ads claiming you can make millions of dollars a month with a small investment haha. What they don't tell you is you have to work a lot and there are plenty of obstacles to overcome before you do become successful. I can tell you that you need to think on your own and shouldn't follow a step by step guide someone wrote out a few years ago, because they're just making money off of the sales of the guide and not what they talk about. Think about it, if you're buying something that shows you how to be successful online, dozens or even thousands of others have bought the same thing, now you have a saturated market and massive amounts of competition. Don't let that get you down! You can still learn from these "guides" and put your own spin on them in order to be profitable
In Conclusion
You need to keep working, even if you think you're failing, because you never know how much longer it will be until you're successful! I didn't make any money for the first 3 years I was working online, then I started making a good amount of money and had to bring on a partner, then we got a hit by Google and had to think of other ways to make money (which took a while to implement). We had plenty of ups and downs, and you will too, so don't let one little failure get you down, you can overcome it and be successful
