How to write content that won't bore your readers

People all over the world are put in front of content when they go online.  It doesn't matter where you go, content is thrown at you and sometimes it feels like people are just saying "READ ME!!!".  If you want to be remembered, your content needs to stand out from the rest.  One of the best ways to stand out is to tell a story to your readers so they want to keep reading.

People love reading success stories, or just random stories, about a person because they can usually relate to it somehow.  You can't really do this if you're just adding statistics, graphs, and data that can't be instantly understood.  So, to be successful at keeping your readers attention, you need to learn how to write in story format and keep them intrigued about the next sentence or paragraph to come up.

Below are 4 simple tricks you can use to keep your readers interested in what you have to say on your website or blog How to write content that won

Talk about what you're passionate about
If you can't show that you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, how can the reader be passionate about it as well.  I've seen plenty of articles about proper SEO and most of them are extremely boring because they're loaded with a bunch of statistics and graphs that I have no interest in.  I get it, you want to seem smart and sophisticated so you use big words and fancy colored images to keep people reading, but it only works so much and you aren't really showing any passion behind your content How to write content that won

Easy ways to show you're passionate about something is to either show a case study that shows a real customers experience or go over a mistake you actually made within your own company and what you did to resolve it.  People always want to see customer experiences, but it's difficult to get the actual customer to get in and write up an entire article for you, so you have to do it yourself lol.  This will show that you're actually a part of your customers path to success and you're passionate about what they achieve.    If you're writing about a story back when you messed something up but fixed it for the better, people will read because they like controversy How to write content that won  You were challenged, screwed up, but then succeeded in the end so they will hang on every word to see where you go down the road of overcoming your challenge How to write content that won

Help your readers identify with what you're saying
An easy way to keep people reading is to write about your own experiences that they might have had themselves.  This way they can get that feeling of "I've been there!" and they can instantly relate to what you're saying on your website or blog.  If they can relate to what you're saying, they will continue reading and likely stick around for a few articles How to write content that won

If you're writing about a struggle, you also need to cover how you overcame it and are more successful now than before.  If you write about a struggle and there's no light at the end of the tunnel, people won't keep reading and you will see a pretty high bounce rate.

Your stories need to relate directly to your brand
It doesn't matter if the story is real or fictional, as long as you're writing about something and you can relate it back to your brand, people will keep their attention long enough to get through your article and possibly stick around for a while.

If you can't relate directly to your brand within your articles or blog posts, your readers will simply see you as rambling with no end even though you have a period at the end of the sentence.  You need to close up your content with how it relates to you or your brand so people can have a sense of closer.

Learn about fictional writing
How you write is just as important as what you're writing about.  If you don't know how to spin a marvelous storty within your content, you won't see people coming back a second time.  I myself go to plenty of websites solely based on how someone writes up their content, which means this little trick works pretty well How to write content that won

Fictional writing means you're spinning a story that didn't really happen, but if you look through some great fictional books, they write in a way that keep you interested around every turn.  You can take this cliff hanger type writing style and implement it into your non-fictional writing.  If you can master this, you will see people coming back time and time again to read and possibly share your content for others to enjoy How to write content that won

In Conclusion
Keeping a readers attention isn't the easiest thing to do, but it's definitely possible if you use the 4 tricks I mentioned above.  I didn't actually use them too much in this discussion becuase I wanted you to understand exactly what I was talking about without too many words clouding up your memory lol.  Sure, I could have gotten fancier with this discussion, but it would have been 5,000+ words and no one wants to read something that long How to write content that won

Learn about fictional writing
Whenever someone writes fiction and tries to make it sound realistic is a little hard for me to believe. Granted, some stories are really crazy and true but other times the stories seem so bizarre that it is impossible to be true. However, such bizarre stories is what leaves an imprint on us. Real stories often just get lost in our memories, but we remember the fictional ones - well that is how i am.. me and real life do not get along so that is probably why..

Whenever I am writing something, especially if I am bored it is always fictional because I can create everything I want to. It does not have to follow with scientific theories, or anything else. This is where the fun is. Non-fiction stories is a real bore to me.

Think about Harry Potter. That is a fictional story than expanded for 7 books. People love fiction.

@Everett you are absolutely right saying people love fiction. It's not only with Harry Potter, think about Game of Thrones. Remember its a book as well which was later scripted and acted. It became one of the most watched TV series till date with all GOT fans eagerly waiting for 2019 for the last season of the movie.

I have to agree that people love fiction simply because fiction is one form of entertainment and it seems that people cannot survive without entertainment. But writing a fiction story is not as easy as you think because you have to remember everything. That is the reason why I am sticking to blogging that mainly centers on my experience because writing fiction is not in my line of functions due to the difficulty.

Yes, you could be the most knowlegeable person in the world, but if the reader isn't interested in what you have to say for whatever reason, neither of you are going to benefit. I Think having the type of impact you want to have on a reader requires good writing.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

The writing got to be done in a correct way and try o target the right audience is important as well. They are Kings and should be treated as one.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
@Brida Doing the writing well means that you have be well versed in the topic of writing, because it's only that way you can give out information as a professional with well stated facts.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

kgord
Well, I think the content is king but it needs to be presented in a way that people care about what you have to say and what you have to sell. It is important to present it in a palatable manner.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
@Kgord definitely it's very important to present content to readers in a soothing manner because some people are too sensitive and can react in a bizarre way should they feel somehow about the content.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
kgord,
I agree with you here. I have come across many writers over the years who are extremely knowledgeable about their topics, yet their writing comes across as cold and clumsy. It's one thing to know a lot about your material, but it's altogether another thing to be passionate about your work and what it is that want to say. With strong, infectious tone and great style, a writer can make almost any material, even if it were seemingly boring, interesting and fun to read about for an audience.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
@JoeMilford Actually having knowledge is quite different and difficult from being able to pass it along to others. Passing a knowledge across to others requires patience to achieve it especially when it's to be done with writing instead of speaking. So therefore, I believe it requires a lot work.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
I completely agree with you here, and I am sorry if my post did not reflect that. As a teacher, I had to become a so-called "master" in my material. However, the art of teaching is very different than just being an encyclopedia of knowledge. I grew up under those giant lecturers who loved talking about their material; however, I learned over the years that teaching is about making someone go out and learn the material on their own--it is about making them care about the content--not just regurgitating it to an audience because "you are so smart".

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
@JoeMilford That's exactly what I'm trying to point out. Being a teacher is not an easy task no matter how cheap some people may look at it. It's very demanding and you always have to come down to the level of those you are teaching for them to grasp what you want to pass along.

This is the problem alot of us have been able to pass the message. One can have a brilliant idea but not having a good way of expressing makes the whole write-up becomes a bore.one needs to be good with words, just use the write words and add a bit of humour to make it flow naturally.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
@augusta Some teachers fail in this aspect and it's really a shame wasting a whole lot of time teaching something but doing it wrong with no results achieved.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I can totally relate like my mathematics teacher. The man was quite knowledgeable in the subject but was a bored that we sleeps away most times,it was when I moved to the next class that I really appreciated the subject.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

kgord
Yes, you have to keep people interested enough to want to move on. It is just one of the things that people need to understand. Maybe if people are interested in a topic but not in the writing they will just skim it, and could miss an important point.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
At the same time, though, I think we also need to remember to write for ourselves. If ALL we do is start "catering" to our audiences, they can smell that too, and no one likes being "kissed up to" all the time--it's hard to respect that. Writing is really tough in that way and trying to find a balance between what pleases you as a writer and what can be turned into a "commodity" which you can live with is tough. I think that people react to true passion, so if your writer seems to lack that, then they will move on to writing that gives them that extra "ummphh".

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

kgord
Yes, good points here. Yes, you have to write with your audience in mind, but if it seems too much like you are catering to an audience, they might reject what you have to say as spam and move on.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
I think I agree with you here @JoeMilford but it's very important not to get carried away by writing for yourself because in actual sense your priorities lies first with your audience.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
@Kgord This is where being creative in writing comes in because it's the only thing that would always impress you visitors to definitely come back for more.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

kgord
Yes, and you have to remember that not everyone likes the same style of writing. I think being interesting, but getting to the point without rambling is important. Most people are not going to take the time to read paragraphs and paragraphs of material, unless they are passionately interested in the subject.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
@Kgord over repitition of one particular thing in the same way over and over again bores, and people tend to give up on such things easily. So it's important to always change how content is written over time, in order to keep the work interesting as you said.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

augusta
You are quite correct writing in a fun way is just the way it should be.writing in a dull or clumsy way kills the interest of the readers. It pertinent one add life to every article or post even it not about a fun thing add more fun angle to iy.Don't be too harsh or just straightforward with your style of writing.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Haha, @augusta this is really correct, it's good to making your content to be fun when reading, that way it's going to ensure that your readers are happy with the work.

Also about being straightforward with your writing, I would say that the topic you are writing should determine if you are to go straight to the point or give a comprehensive insight to the topic.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
I think finding out about what interests your readers should be taken into consideration because it's definitely going to get their attention which would increase their activities and chatters in your website.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

kgord
Well hopefully they have an interest in your topic or they won't be there..but maybe taking some of the comments on your blog and learning what they are interested in is a way that you can narrow down the focus of how to present your material to interested readers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
That's a very good way to getting what really matters to your audience and give it to them. By this way, they would be contented that you care about them enough to find out what interests them and write about it.

People go online to look for something that could either entertain or educate them. It is always what the benefits the readers can get are the main reason why they keep on coming back to your website. People have a very short attention span on the internet that's why it is very important to create content that could immediately raise their interest once they stumbled on your website. With Razzy's posts, I sure am enticed to read it even some contents seems foreign to me since I'm just getting started on learning how to create content.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
I agree with you that readers are interested on reading things that will make them learn more and that is a way to keep them coming back to the blog.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vhinz
That's why in most content that you'll create, your reader should be the focus. Help many people on their desires, wants, and solve their problems, probably you'll turn them into loyal readers. Just like us, we used to follow content writers that provide information that could help up to grow in the niche that we are passionate about.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
@vhinz The moment any site offers something that is priceless to its readers, such content automatically makes those readers a loyal participants who definitely cannot stay a day without visiting the site.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vhinz
Absolutely! Your readers will like and trust you. And when you offer something in the future, even if it will cost them, there's a bigger possibility that they will grab your offer because they already know that you really produce valuable contents. Your loyal readers could be turned into potential customers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
This is actually true. I can remember when I started my social media marketing on my Facebook page, it took an immediate progress because before the marketing campaign on the platform, I offered good content on the page which was beneficial to my visitors. So the moment I brought business deals some of my visitors patronized it with ease.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Exactly @Brida, it's what you find something useful in a website that you keep coming back to such sites for more, otherwise there is no use going to a fruitless site and waste your time.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Well said @Brida, it's the knowledge those readers gets from reading one content or another in one's site that keeps drawing them back to such sites. The moment they stop seeing something valuable in the site, they would quietly stop visiting the site.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Nobody likes to waste his or her time and data subscriptions as well going through something that doesn't offer them any value no matter how little, so therefore it's paramount to always write content that are either interesting, informative or useful in any way necessary for readers because it's what would make them keep coming back to the site.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vhinz
Time is the most valuable commodity that people are willing to exchange for something valuable. If they'll sense that their precious time will not be wasted reading your content, they will most likely to keep on coming back to your website.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Of course yes @vhinz time is the most precious commodity and to see how priceless it is, any second misused in this life is never coming back to be used again. This alone is the reason people don't fancy wasting a single moment doing something that won't benefit them.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I love to read things that are not boring so I learn from my own personal experience. To get readers coming back to one's blog, it pertinent a blogger mostly on things he or she is knowledgeable about. This will enable the blogger to write with passion, depth and play freely with words.one write it in a way he or she would be struggling with words and on what the readers can relate with. Most importantly whatever is the topic of discussion it should be very interesting for a good read.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Talking about things we know is easier in the sense that we could discuss the topic at hand in a free way without fear or favor and still carry our readers along too.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
This is so true @Brida focusing on what one is versed well in would definitely give you an upper hand in writing on it without looking for words to explain and express your thoughts.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

@augusta Boring content are practically worthless and a complete waste of time trying to read. Sometimes when I come across some boring works, I keep asking myself does it mean that the writer does not know his or her work isn't captivating or interesting in anyway before uploading it for the general public?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Thanks for this article, it has a lot of juice to it I most say, every content writer should be could with writing skills. Engaging the mind of a reader is what make your content more productive, some content writers sure know how to bore people with their insufficiency skills in writing, it gets me annoyed sometimes especially when it has a catchy topic ????????????

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
It is sad to delve into reading articles with catchy titles, but weak contents which is the reason I wish most writers should make their articles stand out.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
@Brida I have experienced this several occasions and the way I am working around it now is first trying to read only the first paragraph of the article and have my conclusion on the work whether to continue reading or stop.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Haha, @Adeswa08 you really got me there about catchy topics or heading. Some writers are actually good with giving content heading or topic but they lack in how to present the body of their write up which makes a mockery of the good topic.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
Talking about what I'm passionate about can be a great way to make better contents in the sense that I could get to write all I know and make it emotional too.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
@Brida This is so true, the power of linking one's emotions into his content write up would definitely have a smooth way of slipping into readers mind like it's a thought of their own.

Aslo having to focus on what you are passionate about gives you more room and knowledge on the topic to be comprehensive with what you pen down or type in.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

TheArticulate
In most cases, if you're passionate about a topic, then you've most likely already put time and effort into researching and learning as much as you can for your own personal gain. Because of this, I think writing about your passions is the best thing that you can do. In my opinion, if you're passionate enough about something to teach yourself as much about it as you can, then you probably have the authority to share what you know with others!

I really like the idea of producing stories and content which relate to the brand. I think that people love to hear a personal story behind a brand, and this kind of content helps them to relate to the the product or service being offered in an even more personal and effective way. When people are inspired to create a company, content, or a product based upon a personal event in their lives, it makes the venture seem even more reliable, viable, and pertinent to the audience, and they will be more likely to trust the content and to come back to it again and again.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Corzhens
I don’t consider myself as a professional writer but my idea of writing is this – variety. You need to put in a variety in your writing. Each paragraph has to show something new whether in the information or the examples you are citing. An article is like a story that is moving. You cannot repeat and repeat what you had said in the first paragraph for that is not variety anymore. And when what you had written has a variety in the article then it wouldn’t be boring.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
@Corzhens Variety makes your work interesting and less boring. Some people lack in this aspect, they tend to give almost same thing over and over again, and keep wondering why they are having less traffic and visitors to their website and content without knowing its as a result of lack of variety and creativity in their work.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Yeah @JoeMilford having a personal life story linked up with a brand in content writing would have a huge impact on the reader. People always love to hear personal life stories of others, and finding a way to hook it up in one's content writing is going have a huge number of people going for it.

Honestly? The manner in which you present your content ~ titled sections with bold letters and short paragraphs is not to bore me and make me interested in reading what you have to say. When I see words all jumbled together that seem to go on and on and on … it makes me yawn.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Haha ????, very funny but this is so true. The content heading is the first eye pleaser and it has the ability to immediately capture one's interest in reading the content or promptly dropping it immediately.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mildredtabitha
The introduction part is what captures readers the most. You can start with a definition of what you are writing about or use a short interesting story that introduces the readers to the topic so they will be sure of what to expect.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
@mildredtabitha The heading first must be very good for the impatience ones. Some people lack the patience to read everything in the content, just by looking at the heading, they would conclude immediately if it's worth sticking with or going over to the next.

It's the less fast ones that need the introduction to be well started because that's the limit they would go and conclude that the content is not worth reading after managing a shabby heading.

Writing really takes a lot of time and effort. In order not to bore your readers, you must always ensure in your mind about how are they going to apply it in real life whether it's in the form of fiction or reality because most of us obtain our critical reading into our daily lives. What I mean is that we need to satisfy their cravings but at the same time we also teach them some life lessons that they could apply in real life. We also need to make sure that we always provide them a good introduction to what are text or story is all about and then describe the plot. And lastly, came up with a good conclusion that will surely leave them for more. Hence, they will request and crave more of your works.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
This is really a great point, boring your readers is one of the major mistakes some writers make, and readers lately have learnt not to go back and see if you have improved your previous poor writing. Once they discover that your work is always boring, coming to the site would be on a very rare occasion.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
I think you are absolutely right. I always think about pieces that I enjoy reading or that I find to be entertaining and informative examples of content. Then, I ask myself what exactly is the writer doing there that is so appealing to me. I get a lot of writing ideas from my reading experiences, of course, and so I always try to stay open to new ideas, styles, techniques of writing made by those who have come before me.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I have to agree you need to write about something you're passionate about or it is going to show that you're not really interested in the subject. I have seen way too many writers either copy and paste someone else's article or they have no idea what they are talking about.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
The copy and paste pisses me off like hell @Soulwatcher. Luck for those coping and pasting not to have tampared with my posts yet, because I would make sure to report their post with a screenshot of my original post to the site administrator.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
This is so so true. You can smell a piece of passionate-less writing from a mile away. Copy and pasting is just lazy if not downright stealing or plagiarism. Also, though, I have seen passionate writing that is incorrect and un-informed, and I have seen very intellectual writing which lacked any passion. I think we are all trying to find a balance in our writing when it comes to these things.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

This is absolutely true. For me personally, I have a difficult time writing about things that I'm not passionate about anyway. If you're passionate about a topic, it's likely that you have a lot of experience with it as well as a lot of knowledge on the topic.

And if anything, experience and knowledge are absolutely essential in writing good content! And really, it's only fair to your readers that you're providing them with honest, compelling content.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mitan143
I agree to this. Copy-paste contents are very irritating to read, especially if it is already going out on topic or jumping from one idea to another one. Honestly, I can easily identify whether the article is copy-pasted from another author and it actually pisses me off while reading it but I don't usually finish it off to read. Sometimes, there are articles that are based from someone else's work but the writer of the article explains what are his points by mentioning it and that's a good thing for me as long as I understand the message or the content of his article and what is its purpose.

Write for your heart.
Well, the heart does not write an article. You need your brain to thing and fingers to type. So, what does it mean to write from the heart?
Writing from the heart means writing on the subject you like very much, writing with passion.
When you do not like what you have written, how do you expect your readers to like your work?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Haha, @vinaya you are quite awesome with how you stated this, if what you wrote didn't make you happy and impressed, how then do you expect such work to have any meaningful impact on the readers. This is why I even encourage reading one's write up over and over again before uploading.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

For me, one thing that bores me the most is when the article isn't structured properly, which in my opinion really isn't all that complicated to learn in the first place. Passion doesn't matter much to me, I am guessing, as I never really know when the author has as much passion for the written work or if they only did it to get paid, but one thing I can always use to decide whether or not to continue reading is when I feel like the ideas are scattered instead of one point leading on to the next one.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
This didn't occur to me till you just mentioned it. Structure is a very delicate thing when it comes to writing. It will give one's work shape and pattern of flow from start to end. Getting everything done jumbled up is crazy, I don't spend time on such content.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Judas2018
I think there's a delicate line to walk here. You want to grab your readers attention when you're writing an article, editorial or piece but... you also don't want to beef it up with falsehoods and half or untruths to make it sound a lot more epic or eventful than it really was. This is the trap many writers fall into when talking about an event or encounter they were personally involved in, or someone they know was.
