7 things that can make content go viral

Everyone wants their content to go viral because that's the best way to make money in a very short amount of time.  Think about it, how often do you hear that something went viral and now the person in the video is now famous?  It happens all the time and there are 7 little things you can do to make your own content go viral.  I do have to tell you, it's not all sunshine and rainbows, you will have to do a decent amount of work before you can go viral and that means a lot of people won't follow through on this lol.

Going viral basically means your content or video has been shared an insane amount of times and now you're being seen by thousands, maybe millions, of people who usually wouldn't have searched for you.  Doing this is pretty difficult, like I already mentioned, and there's no solid method to get in the favor of millions of people, but there are certain things that all the viral videos and content have done which you can also do 7 things that can make content go viral

Before you decide to publish any content, that you hope will go viral, read through the following 7 things and make sure you have all of them covered.  If you have them covered, hit that publish button and keep working 7 things that can make content go viral

Envoke your readers emotions
One thing that all viral content does is envoke someones emotions.  This can either be an awe inspiring article written in a way that gets people to want others to read it, and that's when they share it, or you can write your content in a way that excites the reader for your next installment.  Usually you'll want to keep the reader happy and you're going to have a better chance at going viral.  Sure, you'll get negative Nancy's coming out of the woodwork to comment on your content when it gets popular, but the positive comments will far outweigh the negative ones.

If you're writing sad content that envokes any sort of sadness, you could still go viral, but the chances are much slimmer because people don't want to sadden others.  This means that your content will likely be shared less if you're writing about something that saddens the reader.  So stay positive 7 things that can make content go viral

Your content has to be practical
Does your content have a call to action that is out in the open and not hidden or in a tricky spot that gets clicks when someone didn't mean to?  Well, you'll want to be sure people are clicking on your links when they actually meant to and not when they were just scrolling down the page.

I say to be practical in your writings because people are more likely to share something that they see useful to themselves and others.  People sharing your content might not know who will read it, but if they like it they will share it for others and hope it helps someone.

How many times have you seen a "How To" article blow up out of nowhere?  This happens because it's an article that is written in a way to help others, and the readers like sharing it in order to help even more friends, family, and even strangers.

Your content has to be readable
How many times have you gone to an article, that has gone viral, and saw a bunch of grammatical errors and spelling errors?  I'm pretty sure you've just throught "I've never seen a badly written article go viral, Razzy!" and you're right!

Your content has to be top notch in order to please the masses.  If you have the reading level of an elementary school student, maybe you should start outsourcing your content generation to a credible ghost writer who knows what they're doing lol.  If you have a decent head on your shoulders, you can easily use spell checkers and grammarly in order to get a finely tuned article in order to have a better chance at going viral.

Now, your content doesn't have to be at the PHD level at all, in fact, you'll want it to be readable to a high school student or even 8th to 9th grade.  This isn't a difficult thing to do, but you'd be amazed at how many people actually mess this up still.

Power words are your friends
When it comes to a great title and introduction, you will need to user power words in order to get people to click through to your blog post or website.  A power word is something that triggers people to click through to your post, not just the word "trigger" like some of you might be thinking lol.  You want to pull the attention of the reader in order to get them to click through, and that's not always easy to do when you don't know how to use a strategic power word here and there 7 things that can make content go viral

You need to be trustworthy
People want to read something that they can trust, if you're not trustworthy, don't expect to ever go viral unless you're causing controversy or being ridiculous but that only works with videos usually.  A quick way to gain trust is to quote experts who are well known and already trusted.  Even though you're no the one saying the words, people will see the quote and who said it, and see you as more trusting for some reason lol.  Writing about your own experiences is a great thing to do, but having your content backed by someone who has already said something similar will boost your own credibility.

Quoting an expert in your field will not only increase a readers trust with you, there is also a possibility that the expert you quoted might share your content with their followers as well!  This is a way the expert can build their own authority because they'll basically be saying "Hey Followers!  This guy says I'm an expert and even quoted me!" and that will boost your own authority and trust among the industry.

Your content has to be visually appealing
If you're just posting a wall of content that has no formatting or images, don't expect to go viral.  You content alone has a chance to go viral, but not as much of a chance as if you were adding quality images and formatting everything perfectly.  I actually have a service here on SEOclerks.com that helps service providers format and make their services perfect in order to increase sales.  I have this service up and running because there are so many people out there that don't know how to do a simple thing called formatting or even adding a quality image in order to keep people interested in their service 7 things that can make content go viral

Visuals are usually a secondary thing people think about when it comes to quality content because it doesn't actually have anything for people to read.  The thing is, a good image speaks a thousand words, I'm sure you've heard that before.

People want to see images and formatting because it makes a 2,000+ word article feel easy to read since you're breaking it up with bold, italics, underlines, font size increases, colors, images, etc.  You don't want to go to crazy with this, but you want to use just enough to make the content easier to get through.

Publish your content at the right times
The content you post is very important, but the timing in which you post is is also just as important.  You want to get your content out there when people are online more often, so if you were to post at 1 a.m. in the morning, you won't likely get a lot of readers and shares.  You need to think of when your readers will be online and that's the best time to post.  So I guess if your main readers are on at 1 a.m. then that's the best time to post, but that's not likely the case lol.

I've seen that posting in the beginning of the week from Monday to the middle of the week around Wednesday or Thursday is best.  Posting at the right times is crucial, so by posting while people are at work usually works well, around 11 a.m. is when I like to push content that has the potential of going viral.  I post at 11 a.m. because people tend to go on lunch around 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. meaning my content will have a better chance of getting seen, and shared, by someone on their lunch break 7 things that can make content go viral

A lot of people like posting on the weekends, but I don't.  Instead, I post anytime between Monday through Thursday and I will promote that same article on Friday or Saturday in order to get more views on it 7 things that can make content go viral

In Conclusion
There's not an exact formula for how you can get your content to go viral, but there are common things that all viral content has and I've listed it above.  If you go through this list before you post, and check them off one by one, you will have a much better chance of getting your content to go viral.  So, get out there and start writing up some amazing content and try to get a flood of traffic coming in 7 things that can make content go viral

These are ALL great ideas and suggestions, and I find that I, myself, respond to a lot of these when I am looking for content online. I also think that humorous or shocking content can also grab an audience and go viral, but I don't dabble in that type of content all that much myself. If you can grab the audience with something visually appealing, long enough to keep them around for the content, and then your content really delivers, regardless of its medium, then I think you have a real chance of your work being shared and visited over and over by others out there. Another good post from you here.

Sometimes I ponder on this issue because getting viral means you have hit the nail on the head. That’s what we are all looking for, right? But even if you follow all the suggestions, advices, rules and whatever information that were offered to make your content viral, there is really that thing called x factor. That no matter what you write but if you don’t have the x factor then your content will not go viral.

It's amazing to read about ways we can get our contents going viral and reaching people all over the world. One thing about such is that one can get to see the benefits of being popular. Also, writing emotions evoking articles can be a sure way to do that.

I opened my very own YouTube channel, I was going to make millions. Right.... less than 500 views.
Since that time I feel I have learned a lot, sort of finding out what can work for me and what is a disaster. For example, I wrote a stupid story about my cat, really not interesting - instantly had hits and shares. I then published an article I spent time working on, full of advice and tips for those entering the workforce. Let's just say, the cat is winning. Well, to be perfectly honest, neither is "winning", but you know what I mean.
It makes no sense, but working on my next video and your tips will be my guideline.

Haha, that's actually probably what happens to 90% of YouTube content creators. At first, they all think that they will simply publish a few videos and instantly start making money - wrong. Getting your YouTube channel the needed views and exposure so it can even start producing money can be a tough road. There's a lot of marketing and other things involved.

I remember uploading my first "brilliant" (well, in my mind anyway) video. I would constantly check how many views it had. Every hour I was logging on, and it was the first thing on my mind in the morning. In hindsight, I don't think I would have been able to handle it if it had gone viral... I mean I opened a beer at 100 views, so....

Making something go viral is quite hard if you're doing it intentionally. I think the best viral videos have gotten so many views because it happened more "naturally" - friends linking the video to friends and so forth. But since these videos can also be quite good for monetization and exposure many businesses nowadays set their goal to make a viral video.

The pointers you've listed are great but I believe that for me personally, the most important one is definitely that the video has to be funny or "clever". People just love that sort of thing and it spreads like wildfire.

This is such a cool way to look at it. When it happens "organically", then it is even more incredibly real for the audience. It is an expression of the zeitgeist which was already out there, and so, people feel an echo of their culture and their identities in the content, and that is attractive to them.

Usually it is stuff that is attention getting and somehow outrageous that goes viral, Jackass type videos, funny cats, talented kids etc. I think whatever it is has to strike a chord with viewers in one way or another..good or bad.

I find that the reliable content is the most appealing to me these days. Seconded with the humorous ones and the odd ones. You are also right about the formatting, I find reading contents that needs to be clicked on the next page too often is so annoying and I end up not finishing the whole article. This list actually sums it all up about a good content to write about.

making a content entails all you have mentioned but most especially arousing the readers emotions. When I need my post to go viral I use controversial topics to capture the minds of everyone and such topics would have a lot of likes, shares, comments, views, and retweet. One must use good grammatical expression as well.

Publishing your content at the right time is definitely a truth here. Sometimes a tweet or post capable of grabbing 10 or more retweets or likes - should be sent out at a specific time so it can reach its maximum potential. Instead of going unnoticed. Also getting your content shared by someone deeply popular online or on social media can do wonders for it,

I think evoking emotion is something that works in most of the content factories like say buzzfeed and huffington type of website. You can see that some of the time the content may go viral. And people can see through that. Some content requires level of effort. And it can be something worth thinking the right way on that part. I guess making viral requires some level of effort. That's what I have seen requires to be working.

Evoking emotion is tricky though. Some people do it through honest sharing of stories and experiences online, blogs or social media. Others though - make up stories or experiences. Just to have something to write about. Once that story becomes viral - it's a sticky situation to keep that deception or lie alive.

Yes it can either go viral or it can affect the people. And that's something we have to consider. What goes viral does not have to be true. You can see that making content go viral has it's set of the limits in that context. So it's worth noting that not all the time things can get fixed properly. Some of the time SEO may get affected due to negative viral posts.

I also think people should be picky about what they share on social media. Don't post embarrassing stories or situations involving friends and family on your blog or website just to get hits. You may gain traffic but the downside? You'll be losing a friend forever or worse - severely damaging a family bond.

This is true. Reminds me of those fake accusations people made in hollywood about abuse and harassment. And that's something needed to get out as well. Another thing is that going viral with fake stories seems to be a trend. And it will have it's cooldown period too.

A lot of those stories tend to be true or factual. But there are some who've latched onto the current climate to try and push false stories of abuse or mistreatment in order to get attention. However, that shouldn't be allowed to overshadow the larger issue.

I think it depends on the laws though. This shows that the laws are not helping either side. And they are using social media for the public trial. We never know what happened in real life. And this can be really a bad issues in that case.

I think in life things happen to people all the time. But because our society is so interconnected - you have just as many reasons NOT to rat someone out for doing something abusive to you - as reasons TO rat them out.

My contents have never gone viral. Traffic to my contents always builds up in a long run. I have tried to create content with some of the elements listed above, however, it never worked for me. Actually, I prefer to develop contents that pick traffic gradually. The content going viral and no traffic after some time is not very good for your site.

I think in order for things to go viral. The content has to be controversial. We are being raised in the controversy type of the media. And people thrive on such content. So obviously we are going to see such content making viral rounds. And another thing is that content going viral takes some effort. Apart from that I think making more friends and letting them share content is what makes difference.

Well written I must say. These are all good tips/points to be considered when attempting to make a content go viral. Amongst all the tips, the one with the most meaning to me is making sure your content is visually appealing. This point doesn't only relate to writing contents, it can also be related to both still and motion pictures. Overall i think the recommendations are fair enough for a high level of acceptance. Thanks for sharing, Razzy.

Before you can have a viral content, you should be aware that the content you write should be relevant of the times and also to your readers. Another issue is the substance which means you have interesting facts and information to share. Your needs to be easy to understand and yes, readable to the last drop. That done, your readers will be coming back for more. And perhaps they would be sharing your post so that’s a possibility of going viral.

I've got to reply to your point about the time to post - strangely enough I often get some amazing responses posting at crazy hours like 1am or even 3am. I have a parenting website and you would be amazed at how many moms are up at night breastfeeding their babies and they surf with their phones while they are busy with their baby!

I also find that posting things on social media in the middle of the night reaches them nicely too! I once played around with it and posted an article on how to get your baby to sleep through the night and published and shared it at about 2am - it got an amazing response.

For a while I also posted regularly on Facebook and I called it my midnight mommies post and my fans loved it. I think the really important thing here is to really get to know your audience and make sure that whatever you do you do for your audience.

I totally agree with what you said about evoking emotions, there is so much content that is mediocre and does nothing for me, when something evokes my emotions (good or bad) then it always gets a reaction out of me in the way of a comment on the website, a social share or I may subscribe.

Our society today is the most fickle that has existed in the history of the universe. People are obsessed with the celebrity culture and things that add no value to anyone's life. In my opinion one of the best ways to go viral is to write about , one of these shallow topics. Or find a topic that is trending and put a new spin to it. Make sure to write a shocking headline and you're sure to get the clicks. I'm not sure you will keep your audience, especially if you have, blog.

Emotions are always a great option. I like the good tactics of Old Spice, which often evokes a lot of emotions in advertising their products. I often find it funny and memorable. Moreover, I don't mind trying their products after viewing them. Also, follow this link to read more similar ideas
