Why giving away free information can make you rich

Everyone wants to make a ton of money online, but what they don't usually realize is that they can give away free information to do so.  How many times have you seen a self proclaimed "guru" give away a free course or eBook?  Almost all of the time they do this and it's because they get you in with the free stuff and up sell you on additional courses or methods in order to make money.  This isn't even a classic bait and switch, the "gurus" will actually give you a little something of value, and if you like what you got for free, you will be more inclined to sign up for whatever they are selling.

The only downside to this is that a lot of the self proclaimed "gurus" will give you a nice little treat of information in order to get you to sign up with them, and then the value of the service drops completely.  The support system is garbage and the services or information is sub par compared to what you can learn for free online.

To fight this, you can learn what the "gurus" are going to sell you, but you don't have to pay for it!  This is where the real hidden gurus come into play.  These people are running massive websites filled with high quality information and guides which are made to help you out in your online ventures.  They usually don't ask for a membership fee or purchase of an eBook in order to obtain this information, they just post it freely so you can learn from it.

Why do the real gurus do this?

It's because they can reach a massive amount of people by giving away free information where as the false "gurus" are selling it to their subscribers.  By giving out the information for free, they are increasing the trust they have with all of their visitors and this means they will usually buy anything the real guru recommends.

Don't charge people for the information in your head
At first you won't make much money, and this is because you won't have the traffic just yet.  It takes some time to build up your website in order to siphon enough traffic and free readers from around the world.

You will bring people in with your writing and they will love every second of it.  If you can't do something like this because of time restrictions or prior responsibilities, you can always outsource the writing.  I actually write for a few different corporations and it's only because they don't have the time to do it themselves Why giving away free information can make you rich

Your free guides, tips and tricks or free eBooks will get people coming in.  At first it will be a trickle, but if you keep it up, you can turn that trickle into a hurricane level flood.

If you help them save money, they will purchase
This sounds kind of backwards, but it's 100% true.  I've helped people save thousands of dollars through my writings because I will discuss some simple things that seem complicated and the client was going to pay someone $1,000+ to do the work.  But after they were done talking to me, they made a purchase from me, for a completely different task, because it was still cheaper than paying the "guru" their full price for 1/5 of the work lol.

If you help people save money, they will trust you more than someone always trying to sell a service or product.  Think of it as you're the angel on the clients shoulder telling them all the little secrets the devil sitting on the other shoulder is trying to profit off of.  The client will see you as their saving grace and want to invest in you, not the other guy who is trying to suck every dollar out of their pocket Why giving away free information can make you rich

You will be seen as an authority
Being seen as an authority is everything in today's world.  If you're just some random website, you better be writing up massive amounts of quality content and giving away free courses or classes in order to become the authority you are aiming to be.

Once you're the authority in the eyes of the consumer, it will be much easier to sell them something.  You will become the authority by giving away massive amounts of content that will help anyone who reads it, and those people will then purchase from you when they need something Why giving away free information can make you rich

You will begin to build a following
Giving away a massive amount of free information will ensure that you build a loyal following.  I've been watching a competitor of mine, I'm not going to mention them lol, who gives away a massive amount of content every week and they slowly build their dominance within the niche.  Now I'm doing the same thing and building my dominance as well, but in the end there can only be one top dog, which I'm trying to be lol.

Building a following will take time, so don't get discouraged if you don't have 1,000 new Instagram followers with every posts haha.  Post high quality content on your website and be sure that it helps in some way, shape or form.  Posting random content won't do much besides take up space on your hosting, and if you have a small hosting account it could fill up fast Why giving away free information can make you rich  You will build authority and then the following will, well, follow Why giving away free information can make you rich  You can pretty much guage your authority within the niche based on how many real followers you have on all of your platforms.  If your main competitor has 1,000 followers in total and you have 50,000 real followers, you can consider yourself the authority Why giving away free information can make you rich

In Conclusion:
By giving away free information online, you can actually make money.  You can run affiliate campaigns or just link to third party services that are your own.  Just be sure that everything you do make money off of is related to the massive amounts of free content you'll be giving away on your website.  If you're posting about cars and expect people to purchase through an affiliate link for a flower shop, you're going to quickly think that everything I mentioned above is false lol Why giving away free information can make you rich

Absolutely! Giving away information builds authority, trust, and loyalty. This is true if you are running affiliate campaigns or you are writing content for a local small business site, like a law firm.

I think this also works even you just wanted to attract more traffic to your blog. When you promise to give free valuable content in a regular basis, your readers will keep on coming back to your website.

Of course they will if you offer free produts! I mean I would definitely, free is free! Free is the best price.. LOL.

Giving away free e-books or information in exchange of signing up is what other called the ethical bribe. It's a strategy that lots online marketers are doing to build an email list. In this way, a reader will just give his/her email on free will to the owner of the website. I think this strategy is also effective because most websites that I've visited are using the same tactic in getting their visitors email. I've once read a book about selling that the word "FREE" is a powerful word that if used in an offer, it could be irresistible. That's why many people without hesitation are signing up when a particular website offers a "FREE E-BOOK" OR "FREE TRAINING".

Most of the time I will signup for newsletters about marketing and advertising. Sometimes I will even signup for programming newsletters as well but not too often. I am the kind that adds my email whenever I see free course, free book, free software, etc. However, sometimes the email is sold to a third party. So unfortunately, the email inbox can get full of spam. Be sure to read the program's terms of service, and privacy policies to see if they blatantly tell you that your email will be sold to another party. This seems to be the only problem I have in regards to signing up for newsletters or free things. Also, sometimes there is an issue with too many emails being sent, so unfortunately for the provider, I will have to unsubscribe.. lol

Although I have appreciated this approach in others to doing business, when I am a customer, I do not know why it never occurred to me to practice this strategy myself. I think that the term "ethical bribe" is definitely an interesting one, to be sure. It seems like that would be an oxymoron, but it makes sense. I must admit that I am too a sucker for the word "Free", to a degree, and it can pique my interest long enough to check out a product line further. Come to think of it, businesses and major corporations use this tactic all of the time with samples they email to you or offer on the internet. I guess it just never occurred to me until now to do the same thing with my content!

Without giving "FREE" it would be difficult to get the trust of your customer and opt to give their
emails. Where in online marketing building emails list is one of the important assets in doing business. Being able to collect emails from your visitors will allow you to get connected with them. You can send them "FREE" updates and follow ups. And as you continuously sending them valuable FREE information, they'll gradually like and trust you. Just make sure that your "FREE" give away and other free give away series if there are any, such as newsletters, are really valuable so that there's a bigger chance that in the
end, they'll purchase or avail the products or services that you are offering. There’s nothing wrong with the “ethical bribe” as long as you delivered what you have promised.

Oh, yes, definitely! I just mentioned in my own reply that sometimes these programs are good, and all but other times they are not. Sometimes these free programs will sell your email to third parties. I have so much junk email from these providers it is not even funny.

I have a "throw away" email that I use just for such programs because i am worried that they may sell the emails. And more often than not it is true, and my inbox is spammed with so many irrelevant emails. So please be careful and read the program's terms of service and privacy policies before offering your email. And if you are offering email, may want to think about using a "throw away" email too...

vhinz,
I agree with you here and totally appreciate your perspective. I've always done free newsletters, etc. I also attempt to spread the word on writers who submit to my blogs and journal "for free" so that I am constantly supporting their work. In return, they continue to submit quality content to me, which brings me more audiences and traffic due to my relationship wit them which i try to maintain through cross-promoting everyone.

I think everyone is a sucker for the term "free". Everything seems so much better when it is "free". However, really nothing is ever free, you are exchanging sometime to get a product or service for "free". And if it is truly free then either the content is not that great, or the provider does not really care about money and just wants to help others - which i seem to like these types an awfully a lot! Lol.

Too bad this society is not a trade society where we can trade services and products for other services and products. That would be pretty cool. Why giving away free information can make you rich

I'm a sucker too of free contents because I'm still on the process of learning internet marketing. I just wanted to discover new things that could add to my knowledge. If there’s nothing new that I could get from the website that I’ve just signed up, I immediately unsubscribe because I don’t
want my inbox to be filled every day with emails with almost the same content. I just remain subscribed to those websites that really give valuable and new information.

This type of online money-making scheme does really work. I know this because in the past I have signed up for so many programs, classes, courses, etc. However, one thing I have not done (which i should have tried) is actually purchase any further information or other products the provider was selling at the time of the free information campaign.

You do get a good amount of emails, and such that you can monetize. A lot of the time these programs will collect your email, and send you emails about other products and services they offer. If you are truly interested in the provider's products and / or services then I am sure you would purchase something from the provider, it is only inevitable.

I am actually going to utilize a method like this on my own website. Firstly, collect emails but offering something for free, and then add promotional content within the emails that I will send. Sounds like a good plan, especially to constantly offer content for the subscribers that signed up to the email marketing list. However, I just have to figure out which kind of products or services I would like to give away for free.

I attended two seminars with two qualified gurus and those people know how to influence you with their talks. I ended buying books from both of them when the conference was over. I did learn many things from those books and started researching more about those people and their works. However, I don't see myself as a ''guru''. I don't think I have the right skills to do such a job.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Becoming a guru sometimes really takes time to develop. It needs commitment, more knowledge, and consistent practice. If you want to become a guru, you really need to be confident that you can become one. Start small, try to teach those who are totally beginner in the field that you are passionate about. Teach them what you have learned in seminars that you've attended or share them what you have gained in the book that you have read. I too want to become a guru, it just that, I need to learn more. So I just keep on practicing from small stuff. I think the right time will just come.

What you have said is correct. Especially if you are looking at selling ebooks, I think the best thing that you could do is to start a blog and then write content that is targetted at the people who you are looking at selling the book to. Once you have some loyal followers and readers then it is much easier to sell your ebook or whatever product you are looking at selling.

Well written. Sharing information free help us to get ahead and people would judge us through the information we share. if they're good enough we can be seen as an authority and we can actually take advantage of that to make money. When once people come to realise we are good with information we are sure of getting clients that believes in us and want to work with us.

I try and be as helpful as possible to people coming up in my niche. Who want to start a site, business or some sort of online based topic blog or community. I don't give away many if any of my money making secrets though. But secrets to getting started and the dos and don'ts of starting a blog centered on a topic you're passionate about? I have no problem 'advising' for free in that aspect.

You know this is something that a lot of people who want to sell their content online don't really think about. I see a lot of posts on here as well, with people asking how they can increase the sales for their ebooks and such.

A lot of these people haven't really established any sort of following yet. They churned out some sort of ebook and now expect people to gather around and actually pay money for it. Yes it would be great if this is how things actually worked, but that would be way too easy, wouldn't it?

You have to establish a following first. People aren't going to buy something without seeing some sign that you at least know what you're talking about. In order to build a reputation you have to give them something for free. And once you've earned yourself a trusting community, they will be glad to help you thrive by supporting your content financially.

I agree that being an authority can be a way of earning money. That's actually the asset of consultants, the knowledge that they have. And you can earn the reputation of being an authority by sharing what you know. However, sharing what you know is not a guarantee to be an authority. It takes time to build that image.

Yes, if you can get the trust of people they will not see you as a "con" or someone out to make money, but as a legitimate source of information. This will really go in your favor if you can genuinely help people and are not aggressive with your sales tactics. People know the truth when they hear it and experience it for themselves.

Giving free information to the people can truly help you become rich in no time. Many people are looking for free opportunities and getting such is not easily found online. When someone gives information free and introduces great opportunities to the people without charging a dime, such a person is regarded as an authority and a true achiever. Such a person is followed by many. So, instead of charging people to receive information, it's better giving it out free or as gifts to humanities.

I think free content can be monetized using affiliate links and the influencing. Many people do that and make the most out of such content. So you can see that information selling is more profitable. Because affiliate marketer may not make the most money all the time. And selling thing upfront is the way to go. And another thing is that you have to take some efforts for the free information too. So paid products are lot better than free information.

This is true. When free digital goods started to come about in the past years, I have to admit I was a little confused as to why they would do this and I wondered how they were able to make money off of it, but now that it is a more common practice, I could see the system a lot clearer and I would have to agree that it can be a very profitable way of making money online. The only problem is that the ramp up period probably is going to take a very long time and will take a lot of effort but it does work.

One of the greatest dividends you are going to gain by giving free information is earning your trust. You are simply building trust if you decide to be giving people updates, tips, ideas, info, and opinions without asking them to pay. You are going to reap rewards for doing this in the long run. People will see you as someone who just wanted to help them out. They would want to follow you when you even introduce greater things to them.

True. You'll also see a serious uptick in connections as well. Particularly to your social media accounts. When people find out that you have useful information, they will want to connect with you on Twitter, Facebook, Linked In or what ever social media space you use. So they can bounce ideas off of you, learn a few new tips of their own, etc.

This makes sense as a strategy for getting clients and establishing yourself in a certain niche an authority in a certain field. A good example of what you are saying can be seen in affiliate marketing. Who is an authority in this field? I am new to this field and the only two programmes I would say have the expertise are the Wealthy affiliate and Yoonla. Do they give free information? I have had they do and then they refer you to certain services which will help you in affiliate marketing. I guess what you're saying is right. Giving out free information works.

I am also trying to learn copywriting. I do this by following a copywriting blog by Neville Medhora. He gives lots of free tips and also a free book. He also uses this platform to post affiliate links to other copywriting courses and tools you can use. So I agree 100 percent with you.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree that giving out free information helps but it depends on the kind of information that you give out. In your example for affiliate marketing, perhaps you can provide tips in storing perishable goods properly so it will last longer. There’s also the tip for the proper care of leather shoes so it will not crack. Isn’t it a usual problem when the leather shoes get wet? Things like I mentioned are beneficial to the readers and they will have a feeling of gratitude somehow.
