How to recover from a failure?

Failure is something inherent in all people because we are all incomplete human beings in constant learning processes. If to this day you have never failed at something, sooner or later that day will come for you... So, don't worry, haha!

However, making a mistake is something that nobody likes to admit because it can bring out many negative aspects to the table. So, when you fail at something... How do you usually recover from it?

I failed all the time because I am not careful enough when I try to complete my job, be it online or offline. I constant get scolding from my hubby and my previous supervisor. So, I told myself not to give up, try to do better. I found that reading helps me to improve because there are lots of solutions out in the net where people had the same problems as I do

"I failed all the time because I am not careful enough when I try to complete my job,…"

Oh boy, I am all too familiar with the concept of failing because you weren't being careful.

I'm a person who likes to do my work fairly slowly, it's what I'm used to. When I work slow I can double check things and make sure that things are really being done the correct way. However, at certain jobs, people want you to just work, work, work, faster, faster, faster. I don't perform great under such condition so I end up making a bunch of mistakes because I can't be careful in the way I'm used to.

I suppose all it takes is just getting more experience working under pressure, but I'd rather find somewhere to work where there simply isn't as much pressure to being with.

I think getting over failure is not easy. It takes years. And one has to work really hard to do just that. And if people were to change the way things go for those. It'd be reasonable to say that failure has it's set of the limits where people don't know how to make decisions about their life. And in such case getting over the failure is not going to be that easy. We just have to work for the same in due process. Another thing to consider as well is that failure requires the person to be persistent. You can't just do things that lead to earlier mistakes. And you have to consider that failure as a stepping stone towards success.

Personally I know there's always two sides to a coin and even the coin of life has two sides. Success and failure and if this is so I don't need to be ashamed to fail but the most important is lesson learnt.

I talk to me myself, look at the lost situation critically and this time around try to do Better but even at that we should always know when to quit,so as not to drain our inner abilities.

I agree if there is failure then that means there is a big success around the corner. One just have to be persistent and find that. This way things are going to be in much more controlled environment. It can be safely said that there are some serious ways things can be fixed. I guess we have to find out there are some of the people who do learn things along the way. And till we find out where we stand, it's kind of harder to manage that type of stuff.

Good point here! There is always another side to the coin, but we get hurt and let our egos get in the way and restrain us from having perspective, It's good to be able to see outside of yourself and to have objectivity in your pursuits.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

overcast
I have to agree on the ego point. So many of us are missed from our own path due to the ego. And that's something many people fail to understand. So it all comes down to the failure. And we have to understand how it affects us. That seems to be the way failure is going to change us in long term. There are people who are learning from their own ways. And we can surely change things along if we know when to let ego out of our own way. That's the point about life.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
I think so too. We need to "get over ourselves", to some extent. I find it hard to keep perspective. It is easy to feel, when you experience failure, like you are under attack or being persecuted. However, you are just experiencing what every human goes through on their life path. Don't get me wrong, failures should be taken seriously and used productively, but I still think we need to remember to lighten up. It could ALWAYS be worse, and we need to remember, despite out failures, all of the good things that are also in our lives.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes failure puts us into the back track. And we become defensive. And that's where the things need to be changed. We have to approach the failure more cautiously. And that seems to be the way things may improve. Because if we get into defense every time we fail we may not always learn from the problems. That's what I have learned.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
I also want to note that, and I am not sure if you are like this, but when I am defensive or feeling sorry of myself, because of failure, then I do not listen like I should to those who are consoling me and trying to give me advice or constructive criticism. This is a bad place to be, mentally, and it can definitely hinder your personal growth!

I am more of type of person who would find the cause of things in case of failure. And considering the amount of people who are not in my shoes so they often dont give any form of clean advice. And most of the advice is skewed and generic. So they do understand that in problems people have to find things out on their own. And that's where people differ with me. But I guess our own problems are in our own worlds context. So finding solution also works in that context.

I had 2 businesses that ended in failures although it wasgoing great in the beginning. For me, the recovering is not the business by my
mental and emotional aspects. It’s painful to put up a business and not
succeed. But as a consolation, I have learned my lessons from the failures.
When my first business failed, it took me 5 years before I started my second
business. After 4 years, it closed shop but I cannot say I have lost money
albeit I had a little savings left from the earnings of that business.

Well... It's painful, but once you learn the lesson, the next failures (if they happen) won't be so hard to overcome, is it? Nobody likes to fail... But it's something that can happen to everyone who risks doing something.

I have only ever started one business and I know how bad it hurts when you have a vision and then you put all of the work into it to make it become a reality. And then for whatever reason it fails. And your hopes and dreams of success goes right down the drain. I never started a second business because I am still scared from the first business loss.

Honestly, I fail at most things, and certainly at the things which matter the most. The only advice I can give is: stay positive, focus on what comes next (rather than dwelling on your failure), find healthy ways to relieve stress.

Also, listening to Tubthumping by Chumbawamba never hurts.

Good luck.

Recovering from failure depends on its weight. There are small failures that will only take short period of time to recover. And their are major failures that takes long period of time and needs the help of expert people in for you to recover. But whether it is big or small, the very first thing to do is be strong and decide that you will recover. It is you who will determine if you could bounce back or not. Recovering from any failures start with a single decision. If you decide that you'll just accept your fate its up to you. If you decide that you'll be strong and be more cautious and intelligent next time around, then there's a bigger possibility that you will succeed.

For me it really depends on the size of the failure and how invested I was in the project to begin with. Some failures are very hard to get over, and others not so much. I think continuing to grow and learn from your mistakes is what we can learn from failures. It isn't ever pleasant, but in some cases it may be necessary.

I totally agree with you.

There are many levels of failuers and each one of them can bring with it a complexity that can be easy or difficult to overcome.

Difficult as it may seem, the important thing is to look at the positive side of the situation because there is always something new to be learned.

A failure really hurts and devastating any one has experienced being a failure. Failure is painful, disappointing, and demoralizing. Failure Makes Our Goals Seem Tougher. Once we fail we not only see our goals as harder to reach, we perceive ourselves as less capable of reaching them. Failure makes us less confident we are and the more worried we are about failing. But we can conquer all this negative thoughts and mind set, be optimistic, revive yourself worth, don’t pity yourself. Motivate yourself on your ultimate goal, don’t lose hope. Figure out what was lacking in your planning, how you can be better prepared in the future. Failure makes us stronger. Most of all don’t forget to pray to God seek for guidance.

I won't deny the fact that I have failed many times. In the past failures used to weaken me up to the point that I would quit the project. However over time I learnt from my failures and nowadays I take failures as learning experiences. Failures only make me stronger to fight again to be victorious. We must never give up but keep on trying till we achieve our goals.

But you don't have to be ashamed to say that you've made mistakes in your life because that's the first step not to try to eat them again. Making mistakes is not cool, but be proud of them because they helped make you get to where you are.

When this happens, I can't deny I feel disappointed at myself. In some way because I know that I could do more, and maybe didn't put all my effort. Some others is just because that was supposed to happen, and those moments are the worst ones. Is like I can't get them out of my head. Then, I remember there are people that have failed in a worst way than I did, and if they could got over it, then I can do it too. So, it's ok to feel bad in the beginning but the whole point is to get over it. The failures that we have are the lessons that we need to learn.

Failure can breed fear and as an extension you can have uncertainty. For many people it will be easy to overcome the fear of experiencing another failure and it will diminish their will to effectively move ahead once more. Yes, they know that should try to pick themselves up and get back in the race, but it's not an easy task when they had put in all those resources and effort and only to experience great disappointment. In this case one means of being able to recover is to have the services of a credible mentor to counsel and guide that individual back to the road to recovery.

Failure is everywhere. It teaches us lessons while making us strong. Recovery from failure is indeed relevant when you still want it despite the setback. I am attending our regular seminars in the business venture I am currently in. Here are some of the few tips I have learned from our seminar about bouncing back from setback to success.

- Accept that there is a problem. Obviously, you won't recover from failure if you deny and turn a blind eye on the problem.

- Clearly identify the cause of the problem and seek expert opinion. You should act on the most pressing problem first. Solving the root cause of the problem solves everything most of the time.

- Make your success gameplan after seeking advice and relentlessly work on it. Prepare your mind for battle as you make your comeback.

- Get support from family, experts, or coaches. It has always been said that no man is an island. You simply cannot do everything alone. Another reason why people fail is because they listen to ignorant people who don't know anything about the problem, while ironically, they don't listen to people who can coach them right. Listen to successful people so you can recover from failure.

Failure is something we should take as lesson and part of success. We should develop the attitude of finding lessons in everything that happens to us. Develop the solution-oriented attitude and listen to successful people who can guide us from setback to success.

You're right by saying that we should see failures as ways to learn more about life. I've always seen myself as an icon of success until I had some failures some time in the past and that really made me to have a rethink about life and what living is all about.

Failure is awful because it can ruin your mood and it can make you think twice before making decisions in the future. I think the best way to recover from a failure is to analyse the failure and see what made it a failure. If you can learn from the mistakes that you made that led to that failure then it can help you in the future when you make other decisions. Another good thing to do is get someone who can help you with certain aspects. If you are not the best at doing a certain thing then get someone else to help you out with it. Try to focus on things that you are strong at

Your right everyone on this earth is prone to failure at some point in their life. And I myself have failed many times over and its because I have the mindset that things are not moving fast enough so I tire out and give up. And what I learned from the past is that you honestly need at least a 3 year plan. If your not willing to dedicate at least 3 years of your time to a website then you should just give up now and save a lot of time and money. Because it usually takes most websites years to get anywhere!

In as much as it is hard not to feel sad after a failure, I think you're right that using failure as a yardstick to succeed is simply the way to go about life. I'm glad to learn from you about that and will try to abide by that as well.

For me the key to every failure is acknowledgement. For me in order to move on from a failure is to accept that I did lack or missed something that draws me to fail. When I am finally in the stage of acceptance and acknowledgement that i need to change this or that, I need to failed doing this, I should stop blaming, then this is the time that I will be able to think of solutions to fix and stand up better.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
Wow! It's amazing to read the part where you said accepting that it's our faults for the failure. That mindset alone can really help one to come out of difficult situations and get things working better in the future. I'm grateful to learn about that as well.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

AmieBotella
That's true isn't it? When you learned to see it in a way for you to acknowledge it, then you'll have clarity to fix things. Instead of blaming others and circumstances, you take action positively. But one has to be also careful when accepting and acknowledging the mistake. You must not stay on that lane and keep on wallowing on the failure. This will also break you and your goal. Confidence will start to fade away when you're also too hard on yourself. You need to be always on the balanced scale.

Depends on the failure in question. In my opinion, there are mistakes, hiccups, and major "F"-ups. "F"-ups can be very embarrassing and take a long time if ever, to recover from. mistakes and hiccups are normally fate driven. Things that happen outside of your control and there's nothing you can do about it. Even with a backup strategy. The best course of action then, is to stay relevant and maintain value while the situation straightens itself out.

I've had success all my life till I experienced failure and it was like as if the world came crashing on me. That is the part where I realized that life is all about having the ups and downs and it is a great person that can pull out and try again in order to succeed. I tried again and got the success that proved that I'm not destined to fail. One thing is that we should always believe that success is ours for that way is the way of success.

Accepting the failure and trying again. Asking for advice from the elders and avoiding bad influence from peers. Trying something else when other things do not work and also learning from other people's mistakes. It takes time to move on from failure but it will eventually happen.

Everybody makes mistakes and everybody fails at something at some point, and that's what makes us more human. We make mistakes, we stumble and fail. But real strength lies in whether you choose to pick yourself back up, learn from these failures and work harder towards success or whether you want to let these failures get in your way of getting better. You cannot be successful without failing at least once. So if you fail, you do not have to regret doing or not doing something and you do not have to mull over the way things should have turned out. What's done is done and you should learn to accept the past failures, let go of these mistakes and figure out what you can do at this moment to make sure history does not repeat itself.

I'm actively trying to change this aspect about myself, but I actually have a really hard time dealing with failure and criticism.

Without getting too deep and personal, I didn't have the best childhood and as a result I have what is the total opposite of an overinflated ego. Any sort of hard criticism or failure on my part is taken extremely personally, and I feel like crumbling to pieces.

That being said, I'm starting to learn to accept failures as lessons more so than things to be depressed over. When I fail, I try to analyze what I did wrong and see how I can avoid making the same mistake next time, until I'm met with success.

Failure makes you depress and it can ruin a person's life but people should remember that in every problem there's nothing to worry about instead make it as a positive way to strive harder and try again. It really disappoint us whenever we fail but we must always think that there must be a reason behind your failures. Believe in yourself and don't you ever blame anyone even you yourself as long as you try hard then there's nothing wrong about it and it's part of human life. Believe and Pray for you to handle those problems of yours.

That is a good question but let me tell you something, this is only according to my own experiences in life. I really don't believe that I failed if I tried my very best to do something. When we say we failed on doing something it means the end or you don't have any chance to make it, but as long as there is a chance for you to make it right or to achieve your goals you cannot say that you failed. Because as long as we are alive we have all the chances to create our own path, to correct our mistakes and to achieve what we want to be, all we have to do is don't give up on our dreams because I believe that we failed because we give up.

I know the awful feeling when you failed on something especially to a certain thing that you don't expect to fail of. Failure might take away your self-confidence, trust and motivation or even your passion. It happen to me and I still coping up with this failure until now. It actually almost drove me to give up, but I want to be responsible to what I have done. It is my fault anyway. Also, the reason why I push my self from recovering is my family. And I don't want to lose against a failure that can be resolved in any ways as long as I am willing to make it right. It is okay if it takes me a long time to recover, and I have this always in mind that we learn a lot from failures. That also makes me stronger right now.

You are right about self confidence that you tend to lose it when you fail on a project especially for big projects like a business. I had 2 failed businesses before. I was truly devastated on the first one but on the second failure it was not as painful because maybe I had become stronger and there was another lesson learned. In retrospect, I can say that failure can give you the insight to be successful next time.

We should not be scared to fail because from failure,we will become stronger and matured to succeed.

I will follow the prodigal son on how he recovered from his failure. First he stood up and begun to realize that there was still hope for him. He can go back to his father, apologize and be willing to accept the responses of his father. Secondly, He believed that he will still be accepted if not as a son, even just as a servant. He had a sense of optimism even to a certain degree. Lastly, he humbled himself by kneeling down as he ask forgiveness. With humility, he received the love and acceptance of his father. In a way, he forgave himself and assumed again his place in the family.
