Top 8 online marketing trends for 2018

In that last 20 years, we have seen a total change in the marketing world as far as trends go, constantly changing and evolving. Predicting those trends and getting prepared for them can make all the difference between a successful marketing campaign and failure because the necessary actions weren't taken beforehand.

2018 is not yet here but as far as trends go 2017 pretty much ended and there are few things that can change until the end of the year and take us by surprise. This is why I think this is the best time o talk about marketing trends in 2017 and how much is the online marketing arena going to change next year.

One thing is clear, smartphones in 2017 rule the internet, even though tablets saw a decline of -6%, desktops on the other hand lost -19% while smartphones reached 51% as the most popular device to browse the web with.
Top 8 online marketing trends for 2018

Most important marketing trends of 2018 will be:

Trend number 1 - Micro-moments
Serve users the right information at right time will ensure the right stimuli users need to convert. So mastering these micro-moments is crucial in terms of how a brand should use the popularity of smartphone to their advantage.
If you aren't familiar with micro-moments you can read more about them here: https://www.thinkwithgoogle.com/marketing-resources/micro-moments/ - Google explains it far better.

Trend number 2 - Video
I know video marketing has been a trend for the last couple of years but I think in 2017 will reach another level. Due to smartphones and due to the level of attachment users get when watching a video I think interactive videos should be present in the marketing strategies of any online company.

You should be present with video content all over the place, especially on social media networks like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Online video watching with the help of smartphone will continue to grow as a trend in 2018 and if you want to remain relevant you need to find ways of interacting through videos with your audience.

Trend number 3 - Personalized content

This is a hard concept to understand. We need to stay away from traditional broad content that addresses a mass of people. Personalized content takes care of each user individually. This is why you will need a dynamic website to make all this happen.

Trend number 4 - Influencers
Influencers had gotten hugely important in the last couple of years, this will continue in 2018 and I think every brand and online business should be in contact with influencers and have a clear promotion campaign set and ready.

Trend number 5 - Artificial Intelligence
Although in its infancy we've seen quite a number of successful marketing campaigns based on IE in 2017. I think this trend will continue in 2018 in a much more aggressive way with chatbots and machine learning being implemented in all sorts of creative ways. Don't miss out on this, there is a lot to win if done right.

Trend number 6 - Analyzing Data
Analyzing all of your numbers and analytics is hugely important in 2018 for making the right marketing decisions as well as to figure out if things are going and staying on the right track.

Trend number 7 - SEO
As long as search engines will remain the most important source of traffic online SEO will be important in any online marketing trend. Keeping up with Google's latest changes and developments is essential if you to want to still get that organic traffic and you need SEO for that.

Trend number 8 - Automation
Any automation can essentially save you money and create leads. So I believe marketing automation will be huge in 2018 and together with AI marketing trend will take us in the future.

I am surprised that mobile phones are as popular as they are. I do sometimes search the web on a phone, but prefer a laptop as my phone screen is not really big enough to search in depth. Some people may use their phone as their primary internet device though so that makes sense I guess.

If you are experiencing difficulty with the small screen of your mobile phone, my suggestion is for you to buy a tablet. When my husband started using my old smart phone for internet when he is away from home, he would be complaining about the difficulty of using the small phone. I bought him a tablet last year and he was so happy about it because the large screen gives him the convenience of using the virtual keyboard.

Mobile phones really took over the market in an exceptional way (they really became a real fever). I confess I didn't expect such a significant advance considering such competition in other segments (alike or different).

Well done, mobile phones team. Top 8 online marketing trends for 2018

I think data science, AI and the personalization has a lot of future. Not just next year but more years to come in due time. You have to understand that data science is not something people would ignore from here onwards. In fact many people would be going into this type of the trends and they may make their purchase decisions known. And for this it'd be interesting to find out and target them in PPC Ads. Same can be said about personalization. There seems to be a lot of demand out there. You can also see that AI seem to have some issues which may require changes in due process.

You have really capture the life wire for online marketing come 2018.

I think there will be stiff competition because I see most people getting more involved in online marketing and smart phones being the No1 device for surfing the net and promoting products.

Personally, sometimes I use my mobile phone for almost all my transactions online. So I think others does same.

Online marketing seems to be established industry. So we can't say it is upcoming trend. Online marketing was upcoming during 2010. And now 7 years after that it is more or less established now. I think for many of us this trend may mean different over a period of years. I think mobile transactions are also stabilized. Same can be said about the blockchain. It'd be interesting to see how things setup in few more years though.

It is not surprising to me that most people use their smartphones to browse the web. To be honest I find it more convenient and easier to use my mobile. I can carry it anywhere and since we have free WiFi hotspots in my country I can easily surf the internet for free.
I am an online seller and I am not really into video marketing. I have come across many posts about video marketing on this forum and they have got me thinking. This is something that I will have to plan soon.

The mobile internet associated with smartphones was really a master move. The growth of these devices is absurd and only continues to increase every day.

Sometimes I wonder: "What will come in the next few years?", but my mind doesn't give me a satisfactory answer, haha!

Artificial intelligence and automation are both very fascinating and dynamic ideas to me considering marketing and business practices. All of this technology being filtered through the Smartphones is also pretty insane. Everything is completely on the grid now, and most people are on a level where they could not function normally without their phones.

With so much of an increase in mobile phone usage, a site has to be designed to handle them. Well, myself, I have had to make a few adjustments to a forum simply so people will be able to see all of it. However, though, I'm the type who doesn't use cell phones that much, so if I hadn't happened to stumble upon my forum on my girlfriend's phone I wouldn't have noticed the problem.

Most of this is a continuation of existing trends. There is a lot of focus on micro-moments and search intent. So, it is very important to understand context. Effective keyword research must not include understanding how your target uses the word, what information they are specifically looking for, and how are they searching for it.

Ever year mobile visitors are increasing. Therefore, we must target mobile users by optimizing our websites for mobile devices. It is really difficult to convert mobile traffic to ad clicks. If your website does not sell anything and ads are your primary source of earning, how do you make sure that the mobile visitors click your ads. Most of the mobile users have ad blockers on their mobile browsers. When there is ad blocker, there will be no ad impression, no ad clicks, without impression and clicks there will be no money, Therefore, people should now focus on how to blend the ads into the content properly and not allowing the ad blockers to determine which is an ad and which is not.

I never heard of Micro-moments, I am going to check the above link. I think video marketing and personalizing contents are a good way to gain traction. Personalizing contents can be easy however, video marketing can be difficult because you need skills to create video or have budget to hire someone to do for you.

Video marketing is indeed getting popular and may be dominating the marketing industry in the near future. Some of the younger businessmen that I know are learning how to make videos by attending workshops and seminars that are intended for making marketing videos. But my concern in video marketing is the slow internet access in some countries that users tend to avoid watching such videos. We are more content in reading the spiels or the poster than watching the very slow video that has intermittent interruptions.
