How to turn your business around if you're not growing anymore

So have you hit a wall when it comes to growing your business?  Don't worry, it happens to a lot of us and you can overcome it.  I personally have hit walls and couldn't build my company as quick as I'd like to.  What I had to do was sit down and just write up why it wasn't growing, then go about fixing what was wrong.  For most people it isn't this easy because they don't know what's going on, they do all the same things but the business just stops growing and they can't figure out why.

In this discussion I'm going to go over a few reasons your business might not be growing and how you can fix it.  We all hit walls at one point or another whether it be a writers block or something that you don't have 100% control of like building your business to the stratosphere and becoming a billionaire over night lol How to turn your business around if you

4 reasons your business might not be growing

1. There's a lack of opportunity
It's sad to say, but some niches and businesses just aren't going to make you a whole lot of cash.  A lot of niches are considered "Small niches" and will only make a few dollars a day even if you're at the top of your game.  Some businesses and websites just aren't going to scale up as high as you'd like.

You could do everything you can from running commercials to sponsoring a little league team in order to get your name out there, but if your business is in the "small niche" category then you'll likely hit the ceiling pretty quick when it comes to making money.

Whenever I talk about this I usually get a few people trying to contradict me saying "John Doe made $1,000,000 selling sticks!" or something like that lol.  Well that's nice and all, but not everyone will be able to do the same thing.  You could go after an oddity niche and hope to break the into a million dollar year, but it will fade extremely fast and your advertising costs alone will make you break even.  Just remember that most businesses don't make it past the 3 year mark because of many reasons, not just a small niche.

2. You're getting bored
It's extremely easy to get bored of what you're doing, it's only human nature to do so.  I know that I get bored with my online marketing company from time to time, but I have to power through it and get the job done or I get bad reviews and that's a killing blow to any online company.  If you're getting bored, you're going to get distracted pretty easy day to day.  You'll lose sight of what really needs to be done and you won't care about your profits.

We all want to jump into an industry, set up a website and make $500+ a day really easily.  I have to break it to you if you don't already know, but it doesn't work like that.  99% of the time you won't be able to set up a website and make hundreds of thousands overnight.  The "gurus" you see promoting on Facebook saying they make $500,000 a month from their system are only making that much from the people signing up to learn how to make it haha How to turn your business around if you

People get bored, it's understandable, but you need to be able to focus on something related to your main money generating method in order to keep the cash flowing.  If you get bored for too long, you'll crash and burn then come back here and complain lol.

3. People are discouraging
I touched on this briefly in the last point.  You won't make money over night when you purchase some system that says you will.  How many people do you think purchased that system and are running the same thing, the same way, at the same time you are?  Probably 90% of them are and that's why it won't work for you.  The person selling the "system" probably doesn't even use it, or they did use it to the point where it then became saturated over time and now they package it up into a nice little system and sell it to you How to turn your business around if you

You would think that everyone is making a minimum of $100,000 a year if you believed everything you read online.  Sales threads, ads, service homepages, etc. all pitch the same bullsh*t "With our system you can make money tomorrow!  blah blah blah give me money!" and I'm sure the system did make money at first, for the original owner, but now it doesn't and you're wasting your hard earned cash on something that is going to be saturated in no time.  And all of these damn systems talk about how you can do it all yourself and all you'll need is they unique system to do so...

What you'll need to do is stick to what you know and read everything you can in your free time.  Work on the one thing that is currently making you money and drive it up as much as you can.  After that you can go through and buy whatever "system" you want and realize you're just getting screwed by the seller.  Hire some outsourced work using SEOclerks and get a VA (virtual assistant) to do some coding, programming, SEO, content writing, etc.  You will need help, a good business is almost impossible to build by yourself.

4. You're focused on the wrong things
When it comes to running a business I know there are a lot of moving parts, but you need to focus on the correct things at specific times.  You can't run everything while also screwing around on reddit for 5 hours a day and hoping that the sales come in.  You need to stop wasting your time on social media unless you're actually posting something for your business, so stay away from it until you're doing working.

Keep your focus on what matters, your customers and sales.  You need to figure out every little detail about your visitors so that you can tweak your business model in order to convert at a higher rate.  Figure out what you can do to increase your visitors happy scale and they will likely purchase.  Stop focusing on what is on TV or on you phone, those don't always help so they need to be excluded.  When I'm working I will usually turn off my TV and silence my phone and put it face down so I can't see if I have a notification.  I'll of course check my phone every 30 minutes because I have a little girl and I need to know if she's hurt or sick at school, but that's an exception in my book.  Now you can't go using that as an excuse to look at your phone and then screw around on Facebook lol.

If you're still unaware of why your business has stopped growing or you need some direction, here's a few questions for you to answer.

  1. Who do you need to hire in order to build up your company?
Bringing in the right people will make your business work on it's own.  Some people want success and they will get it with the right company.  There are people in the Philippines you can hire for $200 to $300 a month who will do 8 hours of work each day.  Could you afford that?
  2. What can you fix internally that can help increase your sales?
This could be 2 different internal problems.  Look through how people are moving around your website and figure out what is stopping them from making a sale.  Or you might have to fire someone because they're the wrench in the system that's preventing everything from profiting.
  3. Are you up-selling anything?
If you're not, start doing it.  Up-sells increase sales exponentially.
  4. Are you getting any referrals?
Contact previous customers saying that if they refer someone they will get a discount coupon.
  5. Do your customers know you're still around after they make a purchase?  What about in 6 months?
If not, you need to remind them you're still here and thriving.
  6. How are you talking to customers?  Email, phone, chat system?
If you're not talking to them at all, there's a serious problem.

In Conclusion:
You'll need to figure out what exactly is going on with your website or business and then fix it.  If you can't figure it out, bring in a consultant and hopefully they can fix it.  Usually it's one of the 4 points I touched on above, but not always.  It could be something that is difficult to spot on your own so by getting some outside help to spot it might be beneficial.

My main problem is getting bored in the industry I'm activating in. I already switched 3 times in my life, once every couple of years and the jump was pretty extream, like 180 degrees, the opposite industry.
I'm currently working as a full-time SEO for almost 2 years now and I can already feel my interest drop slowly but surely. I could be doing a lot more but for some reason, I choose to relax and spend time with my family, I'm talking about my freelance opportunities and personal business, both suffer because I don't have the same drive anymore.

I need to find an equilibrium and I think this is very important in growing any business. Grow steadily but have equilibrium in your life. As you mature, you will find you have less battery power than you used too.

As far as opportunity goes, there is always room for opportunity, you just need to look for it.
Discuraging people are everywhere even in your own family. Follow your heart and trust your guts.
Focusing on the wrong thing is a risk like in any business. Just make sure you don't spend too much time on the wrong thing.

I think that this article is amazing because every single business person faces this problem sooner or later. I feel like with experience you can avoid the lack of growth though.

I believe that picking the right niche is so crucial. As you have explained if you choose the bad one your growth will be extremely limited and you might not end up earning what you initially imagined.

You have truly summarized all the different factors that might limit our growth really well. So far, I am growing steadily but it is good to know how to face with any issues in advance.

I also think that this is a great post, and I identify with the content about getting bored. I think that, sometimes, when things are not moving around like I want them to that I get apathetic and discouraged easily. I will get up in the morning and start walking towards the desk and the laptop and just have a feeling of not even wanting to try some days. However, every day, I push through that and try to grow what I am doing online into some extra income and quality content. It's good to know I am not the only one who feels this way at times.

I agree with some of your points. The niche being low paying is definitely one thing that many people notice. You can see that some of the niche like logistics and few others have their own set of limits. And they can't grow higher unless one puts in more money. And that's where the business needs to turn around. You can't easily grow business either. Your business is depending on customers so that's the part has to be taken care of.

You can see that some of the business requires establishing their value in due time. I have yet to find out scaling is possible for all niche. I think only customers regular cash can change the fate of many business. And on that point I'd say one has to work a lot harder as well.

I had experienced having a business that failed. At first it was growing smoothly until the numbers hit a plateau. Worse, the plateau had a downward curve. Based on my analysis, the market was shrinking because of the competition. My boutique couldn't compete with the malls that are mushrooming in the area. If I had more capital maybe I would have fought the battle by innovations. It's just sad that my cash flow was already crawling and I was borrowing money for sustenance of the operation. That shrinking market was the main problem since I had my focus and I was still focused on my business.

I think the best way of keeping a business for a very long time is to be dynamic. Follow trends and go for what is in vogue. You can't be selling a black and white TV when people are clamouring for a multi-chrome TV and make sure your price is competitive enough.

Treat your clients and customers well.I can never repeat a purchase with an insolent seller,so it better I buy even costlier than purchase from a shop that have rude attendants or management. So when business stop growing or drops everything must be reevaluated

I think the biggest problem with a lot of people is that they just give up way too fast. I have been a member of so many forums that have just started but the admins have just given up straight away because of the lack of activity. The problem is that they expect success straight away without actually having to work for it which is a huge problem. You cannot expect success if you do not work hard at all. Success can take a while so people need to be prepared for hard times.

Not having the opportunity was what affected my tutorial business that I wanted to start off than in the university for I discovered that there is no space for me in that part of earning while in the college coupled with the fact that there are strong rivals in the business that has gotten grip of most of the students and the good results they continue to dish out did not help matters for me as well. That made me get bored about continuing to stay in that business and although I later made some earnings toward the penultimate end of my stay in school through doing personal assignments for people, it cannot be compared to what I would make if I had the opportunity of running a full tutorial.

I think the main factor here or should I say one of the factors of business dwindling and set back is a result of the person in in charge or the people at the helm of affairs are now getting bored. That's why it's mostly advisable to go for start ups you drive passion in or find pleasure doing.
In the other frame, I think that most business if not all business have at some point in time experienced a set back, so when life sets you back, you throttle forward and keep moving.

I think the #4 applies to me. When I decided to launch an ecommerce site I discovered that there is money to be made in my chosen niche, sadly it is not working, I am not getting enough orders, I am yet to reach break even point. Currently, I am changing my focus to direct selling or drop shipping instead of affiliate marketing.

If you mean to say you can earn more and easier with drop shipping than affiliate marketing, that’s also my take on the issue. I still cannot fully understand the mechanics of affiliate marketing maybe because I have not experience in it. But with drop shipping, the concept is simple and easy to do. Besides, I have so many friends in social media who are into drop shipping. That gives me a clear idea of how to go about it.

The business modal that works for you does not necessarily mean that it will also work for me. A lot of people are making a living by doing affiliate marketing. Some of my hubpages are earning more than 4k every month by selling alazon products, however, I have been able to sell only a handful of amazon products. Direct selling requires a lot of investment, whereas you do not need a big investment for dropshiping.
