You also want to write high quality original content that is at least 2,000 words long. Because Google rates down short blog posts. I know I am guilty of making short blog posts on my blog and those short posts hardly get any traffic. And also another tip is quality over quantity. One quality blog post can get 100X more traffic then 10 mediocre blog posts.

I completely agree with you! But I think that around 1,000 words are fine as well. But definitely, always quality over quantity. It won't matter if you make twenty crappy posts - Google wants quality content. So focus on that when you're writing, make sure to snatch those keywords in there once in a while. Besides the content, you have to promote your blog or you won't get any visitors. Facebook and Twitter are two of my favorite platforms for blogs. Also, you can take advantage of SEO to gain organic traffic through higher ranks of the search engines.

Do you mean to say that blogs should have a standard length of 2,000 words for certainty in being ranked high by Google? I never heard of that because the guiding rate before was only 500 words so the blogger to whom I submit my blogs would always tell me to write a blog with a length of at least 500 words and up to 1,000 words because a blog that is longer than 1,000 words will be a bore to read especially when there are images that we include in the web pages.

I have tried this method. I have one facebook group. Here I am posting most of my blog posts. And those links if posted on groups. You can see that it does bring some good traffic. You can see that it brings some good traffic. You have to however promote on many such groups. And also comment on other peoples post and maybe share the content. That definitely works.

I did this too and I agree that it works. Not only in social media groups but also just within the blogging circles as well. What I'd do was to find communities in Blogger or maybe just find some other startup blog using the same platform and I'd leave a comment on their blog letting them know I was there. From time to time I would get some return comments on my own blog from those authors and from that I was able to build a nice community of my own.

Yes the initial burst of the traffic is possible in this method. But then once those initial spikes go down. It's then harder to get new users to the blog. I find it harder to get the more users to your forum in due process. I think it's not easy to bend yourself in the traffic tricks though. Its just painful process. I think blog carnival and the forums on that maybe a good option. I wish to try that in near future for sure.

What works best: Finding the perfect niche with little competition or maybe very old competition but with low optimized content and blowing that competition out of the water by creating content at least three times bigger and better compared with the existing content. I also make sure to implement every content SEO trick in the book, including getting backlinks and getting a higher page authority.

Keep in mind blogging needs constant work and you won't see the results very soon. In most cases, you will have to wait and put in a lot of hard work before any profits come back to you.

For me what worked was finding the right topic to write about. Because my topic is fairly unique and unsaturated I am able to just write freely and can cater to a specific audience that enjoys my content. After that, it was just a matter of seeking out specific communities and joining the conversation and then plugging my site on these venues whenever possible. I don't think there is one magic formula to become popular, but I guess being as unique as possible would probably help.

what has been working for me are the following:

a. Good content
b.Advertising on many social media platforms
c.Updating the blog daily.

Blogging is not an easy task as speculated. So one has to work smart and hard.

Can you please elaborate the last item: updating the blog daily? How do you update your blog daily? I mean, what do you do? Do you add articles every day or do you do something which is also called "updating your blog"? I am really curious. I have a novice blog and I can't update it daily. It takes a lot of time before I can update it with new contents.

Where the thing that helped me most is social media presence and sometimes sponsored Ads.
Start a Facebook group that drives traffic to your site – Start a niche-specific group where members can ask questions and get
support (and don’t forget to point them back to your site’s content
where relevant).
Submit your blog posts to StumbleUpon – It works!.
Be sure to include links back to your site in your About page, in your photo descriptions, in the comments of your posts (where relevant), and in your milestones. because this helps rank you higher in google by the ranking algorithm.

Authord,
I am really pleased with how my social media activity enhances and brings traffic to my blogs. I appreciate your comments here. I have never heard of StumbleUpon--thanks for the head's up about that and your insights here.

I co-write in one blog some years back. When we added photos, the traffic was boosted compared to the previous articles with no photos that's why photos were also added to the old articles. Contrary to a post above, shorter articles get more traffic than long articles. Maybe our readers are mostly with short attention span like me. I always check the length of an article before I read it. When longer than 2 pages, I exit.

I too have a short attention span, and I think that your insight here is pretty interesting, It is hard to strike a balance with blog length and voice. Who knows exactly what your audience is looking for? It is hard to figure out how to manage content in terms of what your customers want to consume. I think that a good post or blog should be about 500 words maximum, as a rule. In any case, I do agree that if we ramble on too long we will lose customers.

Getting to know your readers and the type of information that they are looking for might be handy to explore this point a little deeper. For example, if your readers are looking for in depth information 500 words might not be enough. On the other hand, if your target readers are just looking to pass the time away, 500 words might even be too long.

You should participate in the communities where your audience already Interact with the community you can use hash tags, searches and those you follow to find interesting conversations and content that people would like. Also, you can install analytics.I recommend you Google analytics, you can watch which sources drive quality traffic and what others might be saying about you and your content and the best of all it is free. You should make a domain name and a decent logo and preferably on a unique blog design.

pizzalover,
You just reminded me here that I really need to remember to utilize hashtags more. Also, building and participating in like communities, in terms of shared blog content and themes, is great advice, and I use Twitter to find a lot of like-minded people to generate more traffic with links to my blogs.
