Do you award prizes on your blog or website to keep people coming back?

Many people have contests to keep readers coming back to their blog or website? Have you ever sponsored a contest on your blog or website and did it help you get more readers? Did it work well for you?

I have in the past I even offered a $50 gift certificate to Amazon and it never worked. Not a single person signed up for it and I blasted it all across the internet. Which taught me a very valuable lesson, that content is key and If you dont have good content its never going to work. No matter what your trying to give away.

Wow, that is amazing. I would think a 50 dollar Amazon certificate would have people flocking to your site. Maybe they thought it wasn't legitimate or something. I certainly would have gone for something like that. Many of the food blogs I have noticed have giveaways for certain kitchen items.

I had encountered a site with a contest for the best thread that promises $1,000 as prize. I was monitoring the forum for a week. No takers huh. To me, that prize is ridiculously silly to be believable. To be honest, I had restrained myself from creating a thread because I didn't believe that the forum owner would throw away that kind of money to get posts. It's more practical to pay posters for content. That $1,000 would go a long way with paid content providers.

Yeah, I agree with you. Who is going to put out a 1,000 dollar USD for posts. I think that is a bit absurd. It would be a lot more believeable if it it was a 100 dollar prize. I could see people actually doing that. It seems like the site you were monitoring was just trying to suck you in, that is my read anyway.

I think I know the forum that you are referring where the owner promised to pay $1000 as prize money. I never believed in that contest. In fact I even understood it as a scam. The forum was available through The Forum Wheel and I only did my quota of posting. The forum went offline from The Forum Wheel and I never went to check the site.

Contests are great. If you are having trouble with a lack of visitors or comments then it may be a good idea to start introducing contests. Everyone loves a good prize and if your contest is good enough then you will manage to get a lot of people visiting your website so that they have a chance at winning the prize. You just have to make sure that you offer a good enough prize because if not, then no one might enter it

I am not sure it is, as you mentioned yourself you got no takers with your contest. I think it is a method to get traffic, and I am sure the hope would be that after someone starts coming they will continue to come back after the contest it over. I am not sure how it would all work out though.

No, I have not tried that method. However, I agreed to work with a blogger friend of mine to try to use such a method. It's supposed to get people to my site and when the users complete the quiz, if they get answers right, my friend will give them his free cookbook. My other home biz projects put this project on a back burner. But it will be done eventually. Then I'll know if it works!

Yes, I mean even people that are first class bloggers still offer prizes, for instance the Pioneer Woman of Food Network fame. Everybody like something for nothing and if you can offer a prize that doesn;t cost you a lot of money then it might be well worth your while to do so. It is just a way you might be able to get people to visit your site on a routine basis.

I have a blog and I never gave away prizes, although I have thought about it. I am hesitant because I don't know if I should just build my audience further first or if I should just use the prizes to increase my numbers.. I have come across sites that gave away prizes but because the foundation of the followers wasn't that set yet eventually the people just left after the contests were done. I'm guessing something in the middle could work best, in that maybe just integrate small giveaways here and there could probably help but relying on it solely as a marketing strategy might not be the best idea.

I guess you could do some research on it, and see what has worked the best for other people in your situation. It might be one of the ways that you get more people coming to your blog. It is likely a way to help with readership but make sure you have some readers to begin with I think, if no one sees the contest, no one can respond.

I do think that giving away prizes bring more traffic. But you have to also understand that not all the type of blogs and forums are going to work out in this option. Because some type of blogs may require you to compensate in other ways. So in that context,you should consider awarding points and some other services. This should be more than enough for you in that case to get some leads. I think forum contests and also giveaways through third party also helps a lot too. I have worked a lot on getting the leads through blogs and the forums.

I never tried that, though I'm still new in the business I might think about it in the future.But I have seen some truth and false contests on some blogs.The scam ones would bet a very big amount of money with a very high unachievable task.I know the scam ones when I see them

The genuine ones are there like SDK blog and Linda Ikeja blog, they give out real money and gift is like a giveaway every now and then and this really bring in people.I think yes to a large extent it helps to bring in more traffic.

Yeah, I mean whatever helps in traffic creation right? Sometimes if it is a decent prize you might have people telling their friends about it, posting it on their own site etc. This is just one of the ways that you might get the traffic you hope for out of the contest. It should work to give you an assist. Some people run contests all the time because they find them to be a helpful way to bring in visitors.

I have never really tried this as I don't really know if it will work. I have seen a particular forum growing as the forum owner was rewarding the members by organizing referral contests meaning that the members who were referring more people to site were rewarded. In his case it worked so maybe giving rewards might help to increase traffic in some cases.

I think it is possible to try different contests and reward strategies until you find one that will work for you, if any do. Certainly there are all sorts of strategies to promote your blog or website, and not every strategy is going to work for every person. I think it is just a way to do promotion that is well known.

I have not done this yet, however, I am thinking to award prizes on my blogs and website to drive traffic. Some of my websites are content sites. If I launch a writing contest, I will have more contents on my website. having more contents mean more traffic. Traffic is always good for your website. But the main point is whether I can continue to give rewards or not.

I think an informal writing contest would give you more contents and more traffic at the same time. I said “informal” because I don’t relish to join a formal writing contest only to lose. An informal writing contest can have many awards like the most interesting, the best in unique content and other awards that are out of the ordinary. It is like spreading camaraderie among your readers and contributors.

I did try a writing contest on my website. The website is a user generated content site where the users would receive money for publishing. The contest was to write greatest post that drives most engagements and visits. sadly, I did not have too many participation and most of the participants did not submit quality contents. I had to cancel the contest.

Well, I guess you should just do it as you are able and as much as you are comfortable with. It is something that might work for you to do, but then again, it doesn't seem to work for everyone as the members here can attest. It is just sometimes good and sometimes not apparently.
