Have you heard of green hosting?

I read a forum post recently about the idea of Green Hosting. For those of you who are wondering what this is, Green Hosting is internet hosting but one where green technologies are involved which help to reduce the environmental impact. The main site that I found that offer this service is Green Hosting and all their servers are 100% wind powered which sounds amazing. The only issue is that their prices are not as competitive. It seems to only be good if you really do care about the environment and don't mind the slightly expensive prices. Do you use green hosting?

From what I understand, Green Hosting is all about the care of environment that the host provider gets its power from clean energy. Pardon me for saying this but I don't think green hosting is not real, What is the relevance of being green to hosting? It may just be a label for there is no easy way of determining the "greenness" of a host provider. What I mean is that it is easy to say one thing and be another. So for me, it is just the label of that green hosting and using it does not guarantee protection to the environment.

I don't know about green hosting. It is only from that I have heard about this. You have a good idea. You really do care for our environment. We need to take care of our environment.

We need to plant more tress. We must place our our trashes on the trash cans or bags. If we don't care about our environment we are going to pay a high price for its effects later on. Let us save mother earth from getting destroyed everyday.

Err... If I am completely honest I have never heard of this thing. The whole hosting relies purely on wind power or what? That doesn't seem too stable and if a site has a lot of downtime it can damage its traffic quite a lot so I wonder what quality this whole thing is.

Also how high are the prices that you mentioned compared to some of the most popular hosting companies like BlueHost?

Either way, very interesting to see how this develops in the future.

I only checked one site to be honest but compared to a site like GoDaddy, the prices were quite high for what they were offering. The basic plan at Green Hosting costs £5.00 per month but for £0.99 more at GoDaddy you get much more (and it's currently only £2.99)

Personally, I would never go for it because as much I care about the environment, I just don't believe that it would be very beneficial to the environment especially if other people just continue to use normal hosting. I have never heard of many complaints against normal hosting sites and their emissions so I guess it's not currently much of a problem that needs an alternative solution like Green Hosting.

Learning in progress, Well never heard of this hosting,but if the whole idea is about protecting the environment ,then the idea is a welcome one.I think no price is too much for a healthy environment.

Yes I heard of this type of hosting. Here the carbon emission sources and the energy sources are not higher. So think of it like data center and hosting plans making use of the solar enegry. Some of them are making use of the hydropower. And so on. So this type of hosting services claim to be green hosting. Though 100% green hosting is not sustainable. Atleast not from what I have learned.

I think it;s a nice idea, but I for one would not want to pay double the price for a wind powered host. It has been my experience with green products is that they don't work as well as traditional products and have extra cost associated as well. I don't know if hosting would fall into that category or not.

Didn't know about this until now. But based on the fact contamination is all around us, and any help will improve our society, then I take it. The only issue I have with this is... how can they guarantee, their green habits? Do they show their green rules or statements? What are they bases for it? Seriously, I need to search a little more about these green hosts, but so far it seems pretty interesting.

This is a new one for me--I like the principle behind this, and I support any idea that is good for the environment, but how reliable are these hosts and this technology in terms of the productivity we are all trying to sustain in our businesses today? Possibly this could evolve into the next best alternative, but how efficient is it currently?

100% green hosting is not possible. They do make use of the regular electricity. But to some extent they are minimizing the electricity on other places. So it's more liking making use of hydro and solar power. Though it's too early to this type of tech to rely on 100%. Even google does not depend on green tech for complete projects. To some extent they can do that.

Yeah, unfortunately, it comes at a bit of a cost if you want to be a bit more loving to the environment. It's not great that this is more expensive but it isn't even 100% green hosting. Hopefully, we can see the cost of it going down in a few years which will make it a lot more feasible for us to afford.

Green hosting is when the host is using green technology, mostly the green energy to power their computers and servers. They will be using renewal energy such as sun, wind, water etc.

Yes hydropower and the solar is the top in the list. Though often depending on the season it's not possible to make the most out of such these days. So the energy being consumed may be less or more depending on that. I have personally found out that. Often the green tech is just being marketed. In reality it does not earn that much.

Yes, I have heard of green hosting and while I am all for the environment. I think it's just a gimmick to get people to host with their company and they get to charge higher than normal prices. And in reality they may be reducing a 5% or less carbon footprint. And to me that's hardly worth paying all that extra money!

I don't think green hosting is as expensive as some claim. For instance, sometimes they have special deals to make up for the disadvantage. For instance, they might offer a massively cheaper price - assuming you stay with them a long time.

Anyway, I do think their efforts make a difference, but as some right-wing cynics claim, "What about the birds?". Have these companies reduced the birds killed in those windmills?

Do you really believe that the windmills are killing the birds? There was a news item a long time ago about the dead birds under power station that were supposedly killed by the electric waves or whatever radiation that the power station emits. But the government will not shut down that power station because we need it. Same with those wind farms that will stay there even if they kill many birds.

never heard. When you hear the word green first thing come in to my mind is eco-friendly, healthy, and clear. I think Green hosting really exist. There's also what they call Best Green Hosting last April 2018.
