I've noticed that in a lot of my discussions that are written to help people out when it comes to making some extra cash on the side or to start a new venture, there are a lot of nay sayers. Now I'm not saying they are commenting negatively, but they aren't being very positive in the comments because they say something like "Well this takes time" or "Too many people are doing it" lol. Well I'm here to tell you that a good business WILL TAKE TIME. No one has gone out and started working then instantly was successful, No One. They bust their ass to do what they love and sometimes it turns out that they become successful. Of course it's a little easier to become successful when you like what you're doing, that's a no brainier.
One of the comments that got my gears grinding was "There are too many social media managers out there for me to start doing this now". Well remember that there was always a Myspace before there was a Facebook. Also, how many social media managers do you know who have full time jobs? I know about 3 and I've been working online since 2003 lol. It's a saturated market, but it's only saturated because people can easily get into it. If you want to become a social media manager, you need to be the best at it and contact businesses directly before you start to complain about it. I do social media management for 7 companies at the moment and to get those 7 clients I probably had to contact 1,000 businesses. It's not an easy thing to do, but it's income that you can generate month after month if you get them to sign a contract.
Another comment I was was on something I wrote about painting houses and how you could get your initial reviews for it. The comment was something along the lines of "You can't just jump into this, sometimes you have to go to school to learn it" which had me triggered because that's just asinine. I know painters who started up with a few paint buckets in their trunk and handing out flyers to the houses in their area. They eventually turned it into a 30 man crew working full time across a 50 mile span and making enough money to have work vehicles, offices, etc. The person also said something along the lines of "Just slapping some paint on your walls might be good for you or a friend, but not for everyone". If someone has a painting business, I would hope that they aren't just "slapping paint" on the customers walls and hoping to get paid for it. They will obviously need ladders, paint brushes, rollers, extensions, drop clothes, insurance, etc. in order for a random person to feel comfortable hiring them. I was actually working on a painting business before I started up my marketing career and I decided to stop. Now I look back at it and think "Maybe I should have stuck with it because it could have been something amazing right now".
Being successful takes hard work and thinking outside of the box sometimes. If someone is posting something to help others out, don't come in and post how you think it won't work or how you think it's wrong. Post something about how you can spin it in a certain way to help others in their journey and make some additional cash on the side or push it into a full time business.
You will never be successful if you focus only on the negative aspects of a business and not what you can do to overcome them. You need to focus on what you want to do and then attack it strategically so that there's much less risk of failure. Of course you will run into some hard times and possibly fail, but that's ok because you will be learning.
