What do you think about forums vs blogs

The Internet is developing more and more every day. I remember the early 2010s; forums were still popular. However, I am seeing people on forums less and less as they jump ship to go to other kinds of media like blogs or video sharing sites. Tumblr and Youtube come to mind. Do you think the forum is being neglected in the process? Do you think it will lag behind other kinds of sites soon? What can we do to improve the experience for users in this day and age? I feel like some people think forums are old fashioned because all you can do is write, or so it seems.

There are only few forums available in this world where you can earn regular. But by blog or by you tube video channel you can earn a huge dollar. Google will pay you or there have huge third parties which all are waiting to pay you for your content or for your video.

I think both are informative but still very different from each other. Blogs are very informative, but still, the forum is far better than blogs because you can learn more in forums and also share your ideas with a wide variety of people. The more you discuss, the more you learn about every little thing.

I agree with you. At forum sites, you can learn more on wide range of topics as blogs are focused on one topic only. Discussions are done daily at forum sites, it is alike a community discussion site

I don't think that forums are dying out. There's still so, so many. I always like a mix of both - a blog and a forum.

If you have noticed, many blogs nowadays even have their own forums set up so they kill two flies with one single swing which is very clever. The users that read your blog, can, therefore, very easily join at your forum too.I still truly enjoy the forums as much as I did in the past. You can express your ideas, discuss with others, learn new things through reading their posts, and make many new friends.

Yeah. That's what I've also noticed, but those blogs are usually on the older type of forums, I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong. Wordpress and Tumblr don't really have forums. I think that if you do have a forum, you should set it up with Disqus and your own blog because you will really be able to engage your audience.

Maybe forums are dwindling in number but we cannot say that it is dying because I know of so many forums that are still very dynamic with countless of active members that the list of their new posts are moving continuously. Particularly with specialized forums like the forum for gamers or for a particular sport, those types of forum will surely flourish because of the interest of the members in the niche.

There are still good and educative forums where people can also earn. Both blogs and forums are informative but in forums one can contribute and give opinions. Blogs are updated by the bloggers

Agree. I don't think that forums are old fashioned though. Firstly I learned a lot of sites from forums it self. I believe that they are both not to be compared but they should be hailed since they have health a lot of people specially in earning something while they are posting comments or writing articles.

I think both are different, and forums will not be replaced by blogs, but may be replaced by Facebook groups. Blogs are mot like a platform for the bloggers to communicate with the readers on certain topics, and the discussions are always tied to the blog post. Whereas in forum, more people can join the discussions easier and anyone can create any topics they like, instead of just respond to the ones which have already created.

I have seen nowadays more Facebook groups are created for group discussion purpose, which might replace forums and Yahoo groups in future.

Yeah. Exactly. They're like the new forum. Even when I was in high school, FB groups were quite popular. It's easy I think to make a group with your personal social media rather than creating an entirely unrelated site where not everybody will be able to participate in your discussions. There are even websites like Edmodo being used in institutional facilities nowadays.

I think people are getting more and more rushed by getting certain information or knowledge, so they end up opting for blogs instead of the traditional forums.

The design aspect is also a big differential for people opting for blogs instead of forums. I think users overall just want to search alg on Google and easily find the answer to their questions. Already in forums, there is a need to enter the appropriate category, post your question and wait for someone to respond.

For interaction, it is still forum for me although the social media is already flexing its muscles. In another thread, I had said that forum is a different animal from social media because it has a theme unlike social media which is open-ended and anything goes with the posting. Besides, most forums are strict with the grammar and the substance of posts. Blogging is a different genre because it is patterned after the traditional media, magazines or newletter. The main approach of blogging is to be read and although comments are welcome and allowed, it is not the order of the day unlike in forums where your opinion is asked.

Forums are very popular and also blogs. I do prefer forums tho as you can build a lot of members and not sure if anyone agrees with me here but there content can be found more then a blog. But that is my opinion but its what I seen of anyway. The more content and friendly your forum are the more popular they become and appear a lot on search engines.

I agree. You can have a lot more members that are actually interested in your topics because they get to control what they talk about more than on a blog. It sounds pretty cool. The more content friendly it is will give it a chance to appear on the search results, but there's no guarantee.

Yes, I agree that forum topics are wide in general. Different people have different opinions to share and discuss about their experiences. Google search engine would prefer high traffic forum sites compare to blogs

It doesn't matter what option you use, as long as the content is acceptable. Some forums make lot of money and still some popular forums until now. And some make only a little.
Some blogs too, there are who is popular and earn some good meney, and some make next to none.
There is no way to say which will work better for any individual publisher. It depends on many things beside whether it's a blog or a forum.

Very true. In my opinion, however, I think a forum is good for niche topics because you can elaborate more and make all these fun threads. It seems very exciting. You are limited on a blog in my opinion because you have no control over what you see. So a blog is more for the general masses, and a forum is more for specific people.

I don't feel that forums are a dying medium, as there are still hundreds if not thousands of them out there, but they are certainly dwarfed in terms of popularity when it comes to big-name sites such as Tumblr and YouTube. They have become more of a place for people to gather and discuss niche topics, unlike blog sites which host an array of topics for both the interested and disinterested to post their opinions. Typically in forums you'll find people who are more dedicated to a certain topic than some random person who happened to stumble upon a blog post.

Hi RedVe, I think that in the context of business communication, blogs are often used to talk with the marketplace and to join the conversation that existing external bloggers may be having. A forum allows anyone to start a topic and anyone to respond to one, and I don't think that forums are neglected, the fact is that people are more attracted by socializing sites like Facebook or Twitter than spending their time in a forum. In the past, people joined more in forums because they had not so many alternatives!

Forums and blogs are different genre. Forums are more for social discussions and posting questions while blogs are more of writing articles which are longer and pictures attachment. I prefer forum now because I could just type a few sentences and earn points. Blogs, I had to write 350-700 words just to earn a dollar.

Really? What blogs were this because on the ones I went on the requirement wasn't that high. I feel like blogs aren't as good as forums because, in my experience, they just feel emptier unless someone is writing a sensational topic. On forums, people want to be there, so there people there will be more dedicated because they are discussing really niche topics.

That's so true, back in that year I was on a forum and it was very popular, it was like the 'trending'. Right now I feel that people is more lazy, they just love to watch videos, give likes, see everyone photos, but they never write so much and it's a real shame. We see how we lose so many great things.
Maybe we will see how all the forums die, I hope I'm wrong.

Forums are still being used, it's still a good way to discuss things with others in a broader way. On a blog people are limited to comments and most social medias have limits. I don't think they'll go away anytime soon. There are still a couple that are quite popular. It depends on what people want to do, from that they decide which platform to express themselves. I enjoy both a blog and a forum.

I think forums will never be extinct. This is because there are just some forums with amazing communities, unlike social media where a lot of people can say anything without facts. A lot of social media sites don't have a dislike option, so this encourages people to keep speaking their mind without minding if what they speak is actually right.

As far as the revenue generation capability is concerned blogs are more stronger. And you may find that some people also make money off forums. But it's not easy. You have to bring more people on forum for sales to generate. In case of the blogs, you can do that with mere posting content. As you can see forums can be monetized too. But not a lot of people get money out of them. So they tend to have more burning rate as far as the revenue is concerned. You have to experiment with those options.

Most users on the Net are there to pass their time and earn in the process and for that they go for forums where one does not have to struggle but have a laid back attitude Blogs need preparation and different writing sites have different rules.
Forums are alive and kicking and that is my observation.

Hey there! Well, this is a really good question. I am a blogger, so I think it's pretty obvious the kind of platform I prefer. But that's when it comes to what I like to DO. I like to have my blog, my own space where I can put my thoughts and share them with people... like having a public diary. But when it comes to search opinions or critics about anything... I have to say I prefer to read forums than blogs!

I think forum is way better, there are not much forum out there as there are blogs. I guess the reason for this is that it requires some level of technicality to run forum. Likewise forum entails more business risk than blog.

Blogs and forums have their own audience but it is always quality content that drive great traffic to both. You'd actually see both at the same time in numerous websites. I don't think that forums will disappear anytime soon. Forum sites are more flexible because they can contain blogs and post sharing at the same time. It is also a good venue for buyers and sellers to meet and exchange opinions. To survive the onslaught of video sharing sites, forums have to find ways to capitalize on this trend. It would be nice to allot a few threads to video or image sharing on the forum. If there are programming or software tutorials on youtube, why not have them on a tech niche forum? There are just so many ways to be creative with forum content.

Thanks for your query. I think both has almost many similarities. Forum and blog both related with traffic discussion. Forum mainly related so many topic directly by subject to subject. And there gather lot of moderator and other staff for creating new thread. On the other hand blog mainly control by admin. And it mainly build by many article. And every blog mainly target a main subject for all article on the other hand forum contain so many subject and topic.

Personally I still prefer forums to blogs, because forums give individual the freedom to start any discussion of their choice, as long as it's related to the niche on which the forum was built . That cannot be said of blog, where you only comment on the post that was posted by the blog Admin.

Well, both forums and blogs are based on posting comments, make a reply, create a discussion, expressing your opinions.
But obviously, the forum is collective, all the members can participate and they even can make more topics. A blog is personal, a single person offers a topic to discuss. Also, on a forum the members can reply to the person who posted the topic, or they can reply between themselves, while on the blog usually the replies go to the creator. On the other hand, on a forum you need to be registered, be a member to participate, on a blog generally you don't need to be a member to make a stand.

That community involvement in forums is what makes them so much more preferable, in my opinion. Blogs are nice when I want to learn something or hear what one person has to think about a topic, but if I want to have a conversation with people about a topic (which 9 times out of 10 I'd rather do anyway), a forum is much more conductive to what I want to do.

The community involvement from people who are passionate about the forum's niche are what drive the communities and make them a place that those of us with similar interests will want to stay.

From my opinions Forums are just better than blogs and let me explain this in my way, Forums are about discussions and the best point is the way they involve the audience to participate in threads and sometimes to create them as for blogs are just and only like a president informing his people about something, And the worst is that not all bloggers are responsive and if they do they will just respond to few first questions and that's all , So forums Rocks really for me and they are not comparable to blogs :-)

I like that forums are more conductive to building community and fostering communication between users. I think that's the draw to forums and what keeps people around them, especially if they're able to find everything they want related to whatever niche the forum is centered around as well.

I think forums will continue to be popular in that regards, as blogs seem to be for bloggers to talk at you, where forums are for you to voice yourself with other people in the community.

Forums are on the way of the Dinosaur! What do I mean? Having a forum alone is not enough anymore. You need a forum and a CMS and what ever else you can think of to keep people interested in your website. Because some people are just going to want to visit the blog only. And with a blog and a forum it leaves opportunity to convert blog viewers to forum members earn revenue from the forums and the blog.

I think forums are good for those who want to become a blogger that did not started their website yet. You could not really earn much in forums. With your own blogs, there's a greater possibility of earning huge money once you establish it already and have many regular readers. And there are money ways that you can use to monetize your blog.

If you have a blog, you have to build contents yourself or hire a writer to develop contents. However, contents of a forum build itself when the members participate in the discussion. You have an option for optimizing your blog contents for search engines. On forum, there is a limitation on content optimization.
