Does the color scheme of a website's interface affect it's credibility?

I was giving some feedback to a friend who showed me two versions of his new property listing website -- one was mostly in grey and white whereas the other one had red, black, white and yellow. I told him I preferred the first one because it seems more legit and that's when I realized that bland colors and a neat web design seem to make the whole website or webpage a lot more credible. What do you guys think?

Color schemes used on the website greatly affect theperceived value of the business, and can brand anorganization as corporate, budget, or luxury.
Ideally, the colorschosen should match the type of service and impart somemeaning. Cool colours will always attract users to visit the site again and again.

I cannot suggest on the color because I am semi-blind when it comes to colors. But I believe that colors can make or break a webpage. Too much dark colored themes turn me off but too much brightness also is a turn off. That means a good combination of colors is preferred. One psychologist said that the color combination of McDonald's (the fastfood) is one good example for an attractive design. It is catchy to the eyes and appealing as well. I think it's yellow with red?

Color scheme's absolutely affect a website's credibility. I went to college for Graphic Design and Advertising, and the importance of colors and how they interact was a reoccurring topic throughout my course. Think of it in terms of meeting a person. The first thing you notice are their superficial features. Their facial structure, how they dress, how they style their hair. Typically, in terms of dating at least, rarely does someone decide to go on a second date or meeting if physical attraction isn't there. It doesn't matter how good they are on the inside if the outside doesn't draw you in.

The same goes for websites. If a website doesn't look appealing to the eyes through good color schemes and typographical choices, you're probably not going to want to even give the content a chance.

I prefer solid color website that gives the secure and sincerity touch . Colorful and bright color websites gives me the happy go lucky, fun and not a serious site, more of a teenage site, not for business use.

Of course, in terms of forums, website pages, and almost everything, the colors represents an important factor. Every color send a subliminal message directly to our subconscious and that's why you have to carefully choose them. Once, I was a design forum, the color theme was black and grey, it was pretty normal, then, the administrator decided to make a new theme, icons, banners and everything different, using the colors black and orange, and wow, it was stunning, it really helps, you felt very well on it, it was clean and delicate, we all love it and that change made us happy so we stayed more time there.

Color scheme can definitely affect your website. It can attract or turn away viewers. There are certain colors that appeal more to people. But a website saturated will bright or distracting colors might be unappealing to some. There should be a balance and the tone of the website should be kept in mind.

I have answered some online survey back then and it consisted of showing the same website with different background colors. They showed white, some light colors, and dark colors. I preferred white since I see white as a symbol of purity and honesty. It turned out that the survey might even be for a banking firm because of the questions that they have asked.
Also it would be an inconvenience to view a website that has a dark purple background or a very bright red one.

They said "don't judge the book by its cover" but I say you should. Color schemes can make something pleasing to the eye and looks more professional. I myself don't like to trust websites with a terrible layout as I think if they cannot put any effort into creating their website, then they must do the same with their product/services.

In that case, what sort of color scheme would you use for a business site? And what sort of color scheme would you choose for, let's say, a school website?

Color scheme definitely has some effect. I have seen many sites have sad and the cheery mood due to color scheme. Some colors have very good effect on the people. And some also affect the professional nature of the website. As you can see in some cases you'd definitely find the value out of it. I can't say that it works on all brands or the sites. But it should be possible for some sites for sure.

Do the colors affect the site's credibility? No I don't think so. But sites with certain colors do hurt my eyes and the color scheme might make me leave. For example, if the background is dark and the letters are a light color, I find it hard to read. However, if the back ground is like at this site ... white or a light color and the letters are dark, then my eyes say "Thank you". Sites with dark backgrounds make me tired. There is definitely a psychology to color schemes.

You are right that the colors of a web page surely affects the eyes and some colors could give you eye strain. I don’t think colors that were used in the design of the web page has something to do with the credibility because a scammer or even a criminal can show a neat design of a website which he could pay an expert website designer for the job. In other words, the web design is art and it’s just that and nothing more.
