Is it more difficult to find staff now?

I'm developing a website right now and although I have found staff for a few of the positions, I have noticed that it is much harder to find staff looking to volunteer. I have looked through a lot of recruitment threads on various webmaster forums and I'm just noticing that there are very little responses. Do you think that it is much more difficult to find voluntary staff for websites, blogs and forums now? I believe so and I think the main cause is that people are looking at ways to earn money through the Internet. Because of this, people are starting to only work for money or looking at starting their own site to make money out of it. What do you guys think?

Well it's different for any business.

It really depends on where you are with your company or website. No one wants to work for free unless there's something at the end of the tunnel for them. Interns will work at a company willingly because there's always a chance at the end of their time they will be offered a job. Obviously this depends on how well they did their job when they weren't getting paid for it. Even if they don't get the job, they can add it to their resume which will show they've gained experience in a certain position, even if it's only an internship.

With websites it's much more difficult to get people to help you out for free. Usually the people, like you said above, are already online looking to make money so they won't sign up for a non paid position with your website. Now this would be different if your website or business was already making a ton of money and there was a chance that you could get a full time position, but there aren't many websites that do this because they have the entire world to pull from to fill their positions.

When it comes to blogs and forums, you will need to offer people incentives in order to help you out. Most forum moderators don't get paid, but they do get a load of perks when it comes to posting and receiving free stuff all the time lol. I know a few mods on one of the biggest marketing forums in the world and they say that they don't get paid at all, but they get whatever service they want for free usually because they are the ones who have to test the services prior to the public gaining access. And this isn't just a basic backlink campaign, some of these mods are saving $1,000's because of all the subscriptions they have active through big corporations wanting to advertise on the forum in the form of a sales thread Is it more difficult to find staff now?

You can always hire VA's from the Philippines and pay them like $100 a month at the beginning and let them know that they are basically doing an internship. You can let them know that they will be your first choice for a full time position when it does open up, and they will be more willing to work with you because there's potential and they're putting some cash in their pockets Is it more difficult to find staff now?

Hiring VA's from the Philippines. Now that's a good strategy to use if you want to get staff for low costs. And since the economy seems to be getting worse there's definitely going to be huge demand.

Well, Things are tough in this modern era. You can't expect someone to work for free just like that. except if you have a great idea that can turn to a billion dollar corporation and one can't predict that. A grown person has to pay bills, has to eat, has to pay for even internet subscription and with the thousand and one ways to make money, you don't expect someone to devote his time to a free cause.

I think that almost all of the staff nowadays won't agree to work with anyone without money or at least benefits from working with the site owner..so most of them will surely refuse to do so.

People now a days look for a better pay. If you can't meet the price that their asking, they will not work for you. That is sometimes the sad part of a trending business, some subject matter experts tends to rip you off. We know that they can deliver a job and its a good job, but not all are capable to meet their demands.

Hi, Darth, you are right the only valuable reason for people not answering to your offer are money. They don't want to offer their work as a volunteer, and they want to get paid for what they do. Life is hard, and we see this very often in all the section in our life, there are no volunteers anymore, all want to get paid!

Well, it seems like the challenge is not being able to find the right staff, but finding staff who can volunteer. Now that is a major challenge especially if you are looking to hire among Generation X. This age group knows that can make money very quickly on social media with the right tools. They also tend to shy away from the normal tried and tested corporate route. These are a couple of things you can try to attract the right volunteer staff:
1. Package the offer as an internship, with possible employment if all goes well.
2. Develop a project that you can collorate on a partnership basis with this volunteer. Ensure they are listed as a contributor on this project. This way the volunteer's confidence is boosted and he can list you and the project as a CV reference.
3. Break the work schedule into chunks and outsource on Fiverr. You might not even need a physical staff after this Is it more difficult to find staff now?

I don't think it's harder to find staff nowadays, you just got to know where to look for volunteers. Look at subreddits on reddit, there are many mods who are volunteering to keep the communities safe and clean. People nowadays spend a lot of time on the internet and I don't think they would mind a little bit of responsibility, you just have to wait for them.

I personally think that volunteer work is harder to find these days due to the economy. These days even teens are looking for ways to earn money online. If you expect to find staff for your forum, you might just have to end up paying some people. That's just the cold hard truth.

With the prevalence of paid-to-post forums and sites that share their revenue, writers have been earning good from those online jobs. Where forums used to have lots of volunteers for moderation job, writers are now focused on earnings so I guess it's hard to find volunteers now and getting harder still as time passes by. By the way, I had received 2 invitations to be a moderator of their forum but I immediately declined even if one forum mentioned a token. Forum owners are now starting to have a payroll for their staff. That's the evolution of the online world that I see towards earnings and jobs.

When it comes to volunteer work a lot of people are not always willing to jump at it. Those who are looking for jobs online nowadays are usually youngsters who are looking to earn a little extra in between say school and college so volunteer work is not always up their street so to speak. This could be why you struggle to find staff who are willing to volunteer. Don't give up hope though, with advertising and such you are surely to come across someone looking for a volunteer job as some people look for these for extra experience.

I think it is more difficult to find people to volunteer for you nowadays. Many people have found ways to earn online and have been successful as well. They prefer to concentrate on their own online work rather than volunteering. If you happen to find someone to work for you they may demand a large sum of money. There are many people who also compare their current earnings to what they will be receiving from you. It is so sad but mostly everything revolve around money nowadays.

Hi there,
Tanks for your query. I think it is difficult to get any volunteer staff for any blog or forum. Because, you will not get anything free either cost at least minimum amount. Amount may short or big but nobody will do anything free. I believe every relation transitional, so you must to exchange anything with them. For example, I saw some popular forum give right to add signature to their user after certain time and those user use signature for advertising their own website. Fort his reason, they become to post on forum again and again. I tried to meaning that, you must to provide anything to staff or user. So, for that collection volunteer staff so hard for blog or forum nowadays.

Obviously it is more difficult to find any staff that you can trust because they (new people) will require you to pay them for their works unless they are your friends then you can no charge for this.

I would find any staff from your members, if they can provide quality works for a long time for free then you can ask them to approve them to staff position.

You said it right, everyone is looking for ways to make money, Everyone is busy making money online volunteering is the last option or let's say it's not an option, even after a hard working day you still want to connect on internet for few hours and make money! So you can't invest that little time you got to do things which are not profitable when you have profitabe ones unless if it's your passion and you want to do that to pass time.

I think it's more along the lines of people have busy lives now. I have a forum and it takes at least 60+ hours of maintenance on the forum and behind the scenes to keep the forum going. And I don't work and I can hardly keep up, now just imagine if you had a job or school on top of that. The everyday workload would be insane!

P.S. People are working 40~80hrs a week just to survive and it's next to impossible to work those hours and help out a forum or blog.

I don't understand this volunteering request all the time.is the forum or blog not going to generate money. There's a difference between outright nothingness and a low pay. Most sites operate on low pay and people are managing at least they pay could get them even bottled water and you want to run a monetized forum or blog without paying your staff.

hope they will be no complaints when the tasks are haphazardly done.

I also do not like the volunteering for the staff because that is service which entails time and effort not to mention the discretion that a moderator has to have. I was offered a moderator job by one new forum. When I asked for the amount of remuneration, the forum admin said that they are looking for help from kind people. That is like saying that they have no budget for the moderators. Pardon me for saying this but I am into freelancing to earn money and not to do charitable work.

It depends on the niche of the forum I suppose and the target audience. In some niches people if your forum is popular lots of people would want to be moderators. Reason is a moderators threads won't be deleted and links which promote their website, service being sold, etc will not be deleted either so even if they aren't being paid, they still gain in other ways.

For new forums however, it will be quite difficult to convince someone to be a moderator if they aren't being paid.
