When it comes to online marketing, you need to fake it until you make it when you're the new guy to the show. No company wants to hire a new person to help them with their SEO and Online Marketing because you could be inexperienced. Now that doesn't matter if you tell these people that you've been working online for years when in reality you've just started. Of course I wouldn't recommend doing the work yourself, you should definitely outsource the work to a credible agency that will white label their reports so that you can put your own logos and info on each page. You may think you know what you're doing, but there's an ego that people have in the beginning when they rank one or two websites and they think they know everything. If you just started, you don't know what you're doing really. So you should get clients, outsource the work to a credible company and be the middle man for a while until you're extremely sure that you could be doing all the work on your own. To be honest, you may even fall in love with being the middle man anyway. You make a little less money depending on how much you mark up the services, but you do almost 90% less work because all you have to focus on is the client and what they're questions are lol.
Is this a good or bad thing to do?
Well if you're saying that you're the best in the world and you get a few clients because of your lies then you burn their websites because you're inexperienced, it's not good. If you set up your system so that you'll be working with a company that will do all of the work and give you white labeled reports, it's a good thing.
This is more of a grey area when it comes to selling. No one wants to work with someone that is new, but you can't tell them you're outsourcing their work. If you tell them you're working with a different team, they will think you're just jacking up the prices of something they can find online. The people you're outsourcing to is Your Team and you need to refer to them as so. If the client asks "How many people do you have working for you?" you'll obviously have to give a response and you could always say something like "We have 10 people working with us and we also have freelance designers and programmers at the ready in case we need them to come in and help out. For your campaign we will have 1 person doing (something), 1 person doing (something) and 1 person doing (something)". If you tell them "Well I'll be the only one working on your campaign" they will think that they can spend their money elsewhere and get better results.
Why can't I just tell them I'm the only one working on their campaigns?
Well that's simple, people want to think you're further along in your profession than you actually are. If you're a seasoned vet in the SEO world, you will likely have a team of professionals working with you and that means the client will have the best results.
Yes you'll be telling them a lie, but it's sort of a white lie if you're outsourcing the work to people who are already good at what they do lol.
Is it illegal?
No, definitely not! Faking it until you make it as a middle man on an SEO campaign with your client is perfectly normal. People get paid thousands a month for just consulting, which is insane, and you'll be doing them one better by actually giving them rankings along with a type of consulting along the way. You're not going to be breaking any laws when it comes to this because there are no laws saying you can't put a digital product on your website and pay someone else to do the work. This happens all over the world and you can do it as well
Is it easy to do?
It is, but it isn't at the same time. When you're outsourcing the work you will need to find a great company to work with because the quality of work is what defines you. If you just do whatever you think is right, without prior knowledge, you will likely screw something up and piss of your clients when you drop their rankings.
It's not that easy sometimes because you'll have to obtain clients, which is the hardest part of all this. You need to learn what to say and what not to say in order to close the deal, and this is never easy because one little word can turn the client into a spectator and they will back off lol.

Oh hell yeah! When I started out I didn't do everything by myself lol. I had a few teams of people that I would outsource work to if I wasn't 100% confident that I could do it myself. You have to remember that there are always better people out there and if you can accept that, you can usually build a pretty sweet setup with overqualified people across the board
In Conclusion:
You need to have the best setup in order to get clients, and if you're new to the aggressive SEO world you will need to fake it until you make it. Get a few clients under your belt before you start giving out examples because the potential clients will likely want to contact your examples prior to signing up. This is a legitimate business, people have been middle men for years, and you might like doing just that without having to do the SEO by yourself. Be the manager on the project instead of actually doing the work and you will notice that you have a lot of extra time on your hands lol.
