8 tips on how to increase mobile traffic to your website

When it comes to finding a local business, not many people are going out of their way to finger through a yellow pages book.  Instead, people are now using their smartphones to either find something in their area or use the yellow pages app.  If you are trying to target potential customers in your area, you need to invest some time into your mobile marketing strategies.

According to Google, mobile searches are increasing by a mind boggling 146% year after year.  This means that next year there will be over twice as many mobile searches on Google compared to this year.  Almost 80% of the searches for something in the area are due to people wanting a product or service that day and around 30% of those searches result in a sale.  So do you know what this means?  Well, it means that if you're not trying to focus on your mobile traffic, then you're going to be falling behind.

Below I've gone over 8 different tips on how to get into the local mobile marketing game.  These are short descriptions on what you can do to help capture some leads

1. Get optimized, especially for email marketing
   You'll need to have a responsive (mobile friendly) website for your traffic to come to.  If your website isn't responsive, people will likely leave because it's difficult to read your pages.  You'll also need to optimize your email capture forms so that they form to fit all devices such as smart phones.  Doing this will increase your chances of making a sale or getting a sign up through your mobile traffic.
   
   
2. Find the local directories
   If you're listed in a lot of local directories then you're only increasing your chances of having people find you.  Not listing your business in a directory is just putting you behind your local competitors.  There are actually thousands of these kinds of directories but the main ones you'll want to focus on are Yelp, YP.com and Google My Business.  You'll want to add all your business details along with store hours and how people can contact you, then you're ready to go   You can also add a URL/link to most of your listings so do that whenever possible.  I would highly suggest that you make each listing identical to the last and not change the wording at all.  If you start with Ave. then use that all the time, don't use Ave. on Yelp and then Avenue on YP.com.  be consistent
   
   
3. Think about a mobile loyalty program through your own app
   There are some third party services that will allow you to run a loyalty program through their system for a small monthly fee.  You can also go the plugin route and find something that will track your users inside your WordPress dashboard.  Just make sure that people have an app they can download so that they don't have to worry about finding a card to get punched every time they walk in, those things are going to die out soon anyway lol.
   
   
4. Reward your visitors for checking in
   How many times have your checked in, or been tagged in one, on facebook?  I know that if I'm with certain people I don't even have to worry about checking in because they likely already did it for me lol.  One way to capitalize on this, if you're the business owner, is to offer some sort of discount when someone checks in while at your establishment.  If they can verify that they shared with all their friends that they are there, then they get something like 10% off their bill or a free appetizer, it's really up to you to determine what they get.  These check ins will get you noticed around the web in various circles and people will begin to come in based on their friends check ins
   
   
5. SMS marketing (text messages)
   When working with the SMS methods, you will want it to show a sense of urgency.  To do this you should send out texts with one time offers for that day and you could bring in a good amount of people to eat, play or purchase something at your location.  Of course you will need them to opt into a list before you start sending out these texts, but that's a given.  You will also need to have something that will remove them from the list if they respond "Stop" or some other trigger word.
   
   
6. Targeted mobile ads
   GEO marketing uses ones location of their smartphone to target them.  You can set up digital fencing and when someone gets into your range they will start seeing your ads.  This actually isn't uncommon, you've probably seen it when searching for some businesses in your area.  When a prospect gets within range, whether it's in your area code or a specific amount of miles, they will begin to see your ads.  You can also do this to siphon your competitors foot traffic by setting up your ads to show when someone is near their location.  It's a tricky thing to do, but it's not illegal

   A click to call button is extremely beneficial to anyone on a mobile device browsing your website.  The reason is that they can literally just click a button and it will call the number you have listed   Having a click to call button can increase your conversions a lot due to the ease of use and convenience.  Your users can call, get some info, and decide to sign up right then and there.
   
   
8. Send coupons that are printable
   When people don't react right away to your offers, they could have the option to print out coupons to use at a later date.  Another great idea is to have mobile coupons set for specific weeks during the month.  There is a retail business named Kohls that is well known for their discounts through coupons.  People sign up to their newsletters just to receive coupons every couple weeks to use at specific times of the month.  You basically go in, use the coupons and then get more coupons depending on how much you spend.  The beauty in this is that the customers are always getting coupons that give total sale discounts meaning a percentage off of the entire purchase and not just a single item.  They keep people coming in, and that's what you want to do

With any online marketing or email campaign, you will need to set up some achievable goals and stick to your gameplan.  If you don't, you won't have measurable statistics and be able to figure out what's working and what isn't.  Tweak everything you can to optimize the conversion rates and you'll be successful in not ime
