5 step content strategy to get started with Blogging and SEO

If you've had a website for a while now and you're just now starting content marketing, you need to catch up.  Your competitors are already years ahead of you, but don't worry about them, worry about getting your own content generated first.  You'll need to start strong and keep going for a while if you want to be competitive.


Getting started with content marketing
The hardest part about this is getting started up.  Once you have everything set up and know how to post, you're in the clear and it will seem like the easiest thing you can do with your website since you're really just typing and posting an image here and there.

What you need to do

1. Add a blog to your website
You'll need to get a blog set up in order to post a good amount of content easily.  Your blog will be your means to get the content on your website in the easiest way possible.  

There are actually a good amount of steps when setting up your blog and it can be tricky if you're not use to it.  You'll first need to figure out what content management system (CMS) you'll want to use.  I highly recommend WordPress since it's good for bloggers of every level.  You can simple go to your hosting and look for the WordPress symbol and click it to begin the installation.  Sometimes you may have to click on "Add Ons" or something like that, but don't worry, it's free   When you begin the installation you'll need to change /wp to something like /news or /blog and that's where your blog will be located.  So for example, if SEOclerks had a WordPress blog it would be on something like seoclerks.com/news or seoclerks.com/blog Make sense now?


2. Create your own targeted content
What you'll need to do now after your blog is set up is get some content on there.  You don't want to rush this content because it will basically show who you are.  If you post crumby articles with a lot of spelling errors, people won't take you seriously.

In 2017 you have to post high quality content for your readers if you want Google to show you some love.  In the past you could just post keyword stuffed content and get ranked, but that's not the case anymore lol.  Figure out what your readers want and then target that content.  


3. Guest Blogging
Guest blogging is where you post on related websites and get a backlink to your website.  You'll need to contact blogs or websites in your niche and ask if you can post for them.  You'll get turned down a lot, but then there will be a few who gladly accept your request.  What you'll be doing is posting high quality content on their website and it will look good on you because you're contributing.  The search engines will see your post and give you a boost in the SERPs.  Now guest blogging isn't the only think you have to do to increase your rankings, but it helps.


4. Social Media Time!
You will have to get into social media if you want to become a popular figure in your niche, there's no way around it.  People will come to your blog through Google if you optimize your pages for specific keywords and get ranked, but there's a lot of traffic you're missing out on if you're not social media friendly

Once you learn how to master social media and write posts that will create engagement, you'll get likes, shares, follows, etc.  This is another search ranking algorithm factor and Google loves to see activity about your brand online, so get to it


5. Get ready for change
You'll need to embrace change because you can't control what happens when it comes to social media or online marketing.  You'll need to focus on your content, but if a ranking factor changes and you need to do something different, do it.  Don't get set in your ways because any good online marketer will tell you that if you do, you'll get left behind.  Don't let your competitors change while you're getting left behind.

By not having a blog you're already letting your competitors have an easier chance of taking all the traffic.  With blog traffic coming directly from the search engines you will see a rise in sales, which is always a nice thing, and more money in your bank account because of it   It's not a difficult thing to do, you only have to set it up once and then you're ready to post content.  So go get to it if you don't already have a blog up and running
