SEO takes plenty of time for various reason and not just because it's difficult. When doing a proper SEO campaign you will need to lay out what you plan on doing and when you want to do it. Getting your entire plan done in a single day probably isn't the best thing for your website if you want to be competitive in the search engine results pages (SERPs). Below I will go over a few reason that SEO takes time and why you should just let it sink in.
How long does SEO take?
This question gets asked a lot, and the response is always going the be "Well, how long is a piece of rope?". The answer to this question can't be determined because it is different for every website, every niche and ever domain. You could have had someone doing SEO on your pages before you contacted an SEO company to do proper work, and now it will take twice as long, but even then it's difficult to determine a time frame.
Whenever I'm talking with a client I will get their niche and desired keywords. I can usually tell which keywords will take longer to rank for because they're shorter and specific while the others are long tailed. The shorter ones will always take longer because 9/10 times there are going to be more pages on the internet talking about them while the longer tailed keywords are easier since there are less searches.
I will usually tell my clients that they will see movement within 3 months and a lot of 1st to 5th place rankings around month 6. Now I know that I can get them to page 1 within a few months but I will say 6 months just in case there is a variable in there that I didn't see and it actually does take the full 6 months to hit the top of page 1.
Why am I doing SEO if there's no specific time frame?
Well you're doing SEO in order to get high rankings from the search engines and over take your competition. If you're not doing SEO to your website then you're already falling behind in the marketing race to be the best there is in your niche.
Signing up with an SEO company, or doing the work yourself, will take a lot of time because it's a never ending job. There is no set amount of work to be done when it comes to top rankings and then you're done. You'll have to keep at it month after month in order to get to the top and stay there. Sure you can get to the top in a few months and get a good amount of traffic, but you won't be there for long if you stop cold turkey.
How do I know if my competitors are doing SEO?
You should always assume your competition is doing proper SEO to their website in order to gain that coveted #1 position for all their keywords. If you don't assume they are, they're going to overtake you pretty easily and make all of the sales.
So many times I hear "Well my competitors aren't doing SEO" or "My competitors aren't doing any kind of online marketing" and that's great, but how exactly do you know that? Not many people, besides SEOs, will be able to tell you if your competitors are doing SEO and Online Marketing. If you were to call them I'm sure they won't admit to you that they're doing either of those. Sure you could do some basic searches and try to figure out if they're using adwords, but that's just the tip of the iceberg lol. Do your own SEO if you know how or hire someone to do it for you!
What kind of SEO do I need?
If you're asking this question then I know you need the full monty package lol. And when I say this, I'm not referring to using SEnuke on all of your pages because that will only get you a nice slap in the face by the search engines.
