Having your website auto translate in order to increase sales
Having your website auto translate is not easy task when it comes to a newbie web designer or marketer. This is because it's not easy to code by yourself and if you can code it, you don't know all of the languages. On the other hand, if you can code something this well then you probably know what I'm going to go over in this discussion
When you auto translate your content into the language of the IP address from the user who is on your website, you will always increase your websites sales because they will easily be able to read everything. I know that I've been on plenty of foreign websites when I'm looking for advertising spots to get my banners on and it's a pain when it comes to translating everything by copy/paste methods.
Below are a few things to think of when auto translating a webpage for your visitors
1. What is it
Auto translating a web page is when a person goes to a webpage, let's say this one, and it will translate into the language you can read. If this page was in Russian then I would have no clue what it was saying, but if it auto translated into English then I'd be able to read it all day long lol.
When auto translating something from one language to another there will always be hiccups because some languages will have words that don't translate into another. The translators will do whatever they can, or omit the word to make it read well. Usually you'll be able to read everything and understand exactly what is happening no the page.
2. Why would you do this
Doing this will ensure that everyone can come to your pages and read what you have written. If you don't offer an auto translation service then you're cutting yourself off from the majority of the world.
Let's take English for example, the entire world does not speak it. If you're only targeting English users then you're cutting yourself off from roughly 72% of the world. Now this is just a basic stat, I'm not factoring in the countries that have English as a second language like the Philippines or even somewhere like France where a lot of the shop owners know English to increase their own sales from foreigners.
So by not auto translating your pages for foreign users you're just cutting yourself off from the majority of the world. This will increase your chances of making additional sales from around the world, which is what everyone wants
3. How would this be possible
One of the easier ways to do this is to add either a plugin that will run through translate.google.com and open a page for their translation service, or you can add some extra code to your header and this will show a google drop down menu that allows you to select your language and auto translate the page, which is nice.
The drop down feature is the best thing I've found so far because it's simple to install and show up on all your pages. Just go to https://translate.google.com/manager/website/ and click "Add to your website now".
After you click that it will open up a page like this...
Simply enter your website and select the language YOUR website is in. Do not select a language you want your website to be translated to, that comes next.
When you add your website and select your language, click "Next".
You'll now see a page like this....
If you're targeting everyone in the world, I would suggest you select "All Languages" so that you have a better chance and converting your traffic into a sale. The only reason I could see you choosing "Specific Languages" is if you were super targeting a PPC campaign, or something similar. It's smarter just to target "All Languages" because you never know who will be coming to your website
You can choose between 3 different display modes, each having their benefits but one being best of all (at least I think so).
You'll see this when you click the drop down box under "Display mode".
I will always go with "Automatic" because it will remember your your default language and only translate when it recognizes that the IP of the user if from a foreign land. The page will then be auto translated and you have nothing to worry about
Another nice thing about the Automatic display mode is that you won't see a drop down menu to select a language. Everything is done on the back end and your user doesn't have to click anything which will increase your chances even more of generating an additional sale
So after you you do all of that you'll see an "Advanced options" section. This I usually leave as defaulted with the top box check and then I click "Get Code"
You're now on the final page and can copy/paste the code! The page will look like this...
Now all you have to do is copy and paste this code wherever you want your pages to auto translate
You won't usually have to do this to every page if you add this to a header since that should auto translate every page. If you only want to auto translate certain pages then you'll have to add this code there.
So that was pretty painless to get all of your content translated into a different language lol
I honestly didn't think it would take that long to type up, but I wanted to add images for everyone in case they're like me and think "Ohhh pretty images!"
4. Statistics of online users
You'll need to watch all of your users and figure out which ones are staying to read while others are just bouncing off quickly. Figure out some basic statistics prior to doing all of the translation setup and you will be able to see exactly how well this works to increase your sales online.
Let it run for about a week and you will already notice an increase in sales if you're targeting the entire world. Not everyone speaks your language, but if your tracking your statistics in google analytics you will see they are now
In Conclusion:
It's not difficult to do all of what I mentioned above. If you have absolutely no idea what I just talked about, I would refer your webmaster or designer to this discussion so they can breeze through your auto translation set up
You'll definitely get a few more sales every week or month, and this is a free service so you can't beat that
