Whenever trying to bring in clients you need to think of offline marketing techniques to bring in clients who aren't necessarily looking for you online. Getting your logo, business name or domain name in front of them while they're offline is a great way to increase your sales over time. This type of advertising doesn't always have the same success rate because it really depends on who sees your advertisements. Unlike online advertising through social media and PPC campaigns where people are already looking for what you have to sell, offline advertisements have to be shoved in peoples faces or in a bag so they bring it home
I'm going to go over a few advertising methods that I've used in the past in order to pull in more clients from people who weren't even looking for what I had to sell
Door Hangers
With this method I had my designer make a premium looking door hanger for businesses. Most places online that sell door hangers will have templates for you to download in order to customize, so I downloaded it and sent it to my designer with what I wanted on it. It took maybe 3 days to get every little detail done for the door hangers, but it was worth it
After we got the door hangers for small, medium and large businesses we now have to get them out there. I could easily hire a college kid to go around and place these for me, but you never know how trustworthy they are because they could simply go home and throw everything in the garbage. So me and my business partner did all of this on our own. We went out at 10pm when all the businesses were closed and hung 1 door hanger on each business. Some businesses had 2 or 3 doors but we would only use 1 or 2 on the main doors that the manager was going to walk through first when they opened. This would increase the success rate of the decision maker seeing the advertisement and calling us. It took 2 nights and almost 12 hours to get 2,000 door hangers out, but it was totally worth it.
We spent around $250 on the door hangers with the custom design and didn't spend anything on distribution since we did that ourselves. We only had a few phone calls from this method and I'm pretty sure it was because we sell a service act $500 a month. We did get a big fish paying up $1,500+ a month and that made the 12 hours of walking around totally worth it
If you're targeting the general population and not business owners you can put these door hangers on homes. I would suggest that you do this during the day so that you don't get the cops called on you because a neighbor thinks you're trying to break into someones house lol.
Coupons
Handing out coupons by yourself can be extremely time consuming and you will get rejected a lot. So if you don't work well with rejection, this isn't the route for you... but there is a twist to this in order to increase your success rates.
If you can partner up with a few companies that make a decent amount of sales each month and offer them a percentage of the sales they help generate, you can get a lot of coupons out with very little work.
What you'll do is get unique coupons printed up for each business that is willing to partner with you and have different codes for each one. You can get different designs for each one if you want, but that's not necessary, just the code on the coupon is what has to be unique. In order to encourage users to use the coupons you'll have to give a decent discount, around 25% works best in my experience. You'll be able to track each purchase that uses a coupon and tally up the total purchases from each coupon and write the partner a check at the end of the month
Business Cards with a twist
Everyone knows what a business card is, but they never use them as an advertisement. Everyone who gets business cards has their contact information on them, but what you can do is make them similar to the coupons in order to spread the word about your website. You don't even have to offer discounts on these if you don't want to, just getting your name out there will be good for now.
What you'll want to do is go to businesses with those fish bowls out to collect business cards from their clients. Drop a card in every single one of these that you come across in order to increase your chances of a sale. You can also talk with businesses in order to get a stack of your business cards in their location in order to have passive marketing in front of all their patrons. This method doesn't work as well as the coupons or door hangers, but it's much cheaper and lasts a lot longer.
Well those are a few ways to do some offline marketing in order to pull in some quick sales.
What do you guys and girls do in order to target offline clients?
