SEO vs PPC - What you should focus on if you have a small budget.

I see a lot of SEO vs PPC discussions but there haven't been many going over what you should target based on your budget. Having an SEO vs PPC discussion will help you, or someone you know, make the decision on whether to go after SEO first or run a PPC campaign.

Every month I get clients asking me if they should start with SEO (search engine optimization) or PPC (pay per click) and there isn't a single answer for everyone. There's not single answer because it all depends on how far along you are with your company/website and what your goals are. Below I'll go over a few things that I've discovered.




A few questions to ask yourself before you go after SEO or PPC.


Is your website brand new or has it been around for a few years?
Older websites tend to have it a little easier when ranking in the SERPs (search engine results pages) because they've been watched by the search engines since about a week or two after they were launched. The website has DA (domain age) on it's side and will likely rank quicker than a brand new website in the same niche. Typically with older website it means they are making some money already and they can invest it. I would recommend investing into both SEO and PPC at the same time. Start slow, don't invest $1,000's overnight, because you may waste all of your money on bad SEO companies and also burn through your PPC budget on keywords that don't convert. Do your research and ask around about SEO companies so you can work with a reputable one. When starting your PPC campaign only target your main keywords and some long tailed keywords, maybe 25-50 at the start. After you find a reputable company that you can afford you should go ahead and let them do their magic the same time you're split testing campaigns and keywords on your PPC platform. This is a win win when it comes to marketing because SEO takes some time to kick in while PPC is instant traffic. You'll be building long term rankings through SEO but you'll also be pulling in sales through your PPC campaign. Usually I can get my clients profitable enough through their PPC campaign that it easily covers my fees for a month to month SEO campaign SEO vs PPC - What you should focus on if you have a small budget.


Why did you build your website?
A lot of people like to build blogs and add content to them regularly, which helps a ton when it comes to SEO because content is king. If you don't want to make money off of your website and your goal is to primarily just obtain readers, you'll want to focus on SEO. I'm not saying you shouldn't focus on PPC, but it could just be a waste of money since you're going to burn through a lot of cash trying to build your email list. PPC should be a more cost effective plan in the long run and should hold rankings for a good amount of time to pull in new readers who want to sign up for your newsletters. Running a PPC campaign is primarily to pull in quick sales for small to large companies. The extremely large companies will usually run PPC campaigns for their blogs because they invest a small amount of money compared to how much they make each day.


Do you sell something or are you an affiliate?
If you sell something then I would highly recommend pushing a PPC campaign because you can bring in instant sales as soon as your campaigns are accepted. The only downside, unlike SEO, is that when you stop paying for your rankings you fall off of the face of the earth. If you're an affiliate and you're trying to push traffic towards your website in hopes people will click your links and then purchase, you should focus on SEO. I say focus on SEO because there's a 99.9% chance you will get denied by all of the PPC platforms once they see your affiliate URL that you are trying to aim traffic at. PPC platforms aren't nice to affiliates unless you can trick them into thinking that your website is NOT an affiliate website lol, but that's for another discussion.




These are just a few things that I discuss with potential clients each month and sometimes I lose SEO clients because they want to focus more on PPC, and they can easily do that themselves. On the other hand, I get SEO clients signing up for a PPC management campaign along side the work I'm already doing because they want to make even more money.

I shall prefer SEO. White hat SEO services for lifetime. Because SEO will generate traffic for the life time. But PPC will generate traffic up to budget only. White hat SEO based do follow back link will give you keyword and keyword phrase based traffic from the lifetime from several search engines. PPC campaigns are not promised to increase website rank on search engines. But do follow back link by white hat SEO method will increase your website position on search engines. Will increase the page rank also.

PPC cost money. SEO also cost money. However, if you know SEO tactics, you don't have to spend money on SEO, you can do it yourself. PPC will drive sales by bringing customers, and this will happen as long as your campaign is running. However, one time SEO work will have a lasting effect. Therefore, I believe you should focus on SEO rather than PPC. having said that f your goal is short term benefit than PPC might help you.

if one has small budget then having a good SEO will be the best because search engine optimization will bring impact for life unless PPC which is for a limited time.
