Digital marketing is changing all the time and seems to change and evolve by leaps and bounds every year in some areas. While other areas still remain the same, knowing about these new digital marketing trends will keep you one step ahead of your competitors who are probably struggling with their own digital marketing of yesterday!
1. Content Marketing
Simple because of the sheer amount of development that has taken place in the world of content marketing over the last few years, content marketing itself is set to face its most challenging and exciting year yet. From Instagram stories to AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages), there is a lot more to take into consideration when it comes to content creation through all stages from text, to visual to video.
2. Live Video
Talking of video, virtually every social media site has jumped on the video gravy train these days and live video is proving to be one of the most exciting and freshes formats for content marketing in 2017. And this is set to grow exponentially in the next year.
3. Ad Spending
The UK ad market alone is set to grow by £3bn to £17bn in 2017, driven largely by digital advertising growth. Social and video are major factors driving the demand for richer and more powerful consumer engagement.
4. Wearable Tech
It's forecasted that in 2017, there will be over 19 million wearable cameras sold. "Glanceable marketing" requires marketers to produce visual heavy content that can be consumed within seconds to capitalize on this.
5. Interactivity
2017 will see more innovation in interactive video, 70% of B2B and B2C marketers who already use interactive video say that the medium engages with audiences very well.
6. A.I. Chatbots
With the rise of bots much of brand to user interaction will now be automated. Recently Facebook announced new features for bots that can easily respond with video, audio, GIFs, and other such files.
7. Email Marketing
Just when you thought we'd see less email marketing than before in favor of other marketing trends. Email marketing will likely focus more on automation. Where automated messages receive on average 152% higher click through rates compared to those of non-automated messaging.
8. The Mindset
Brands have become much better at delivering content relevant to the physical context e.g we may know that you're at home, on iPhone, on an eCommerce channel. But smarter brands have begun to map those locational signals against the expected psychological context and having done so interpret actions in the moment before delivering content that seeks to relieve the emotional bottlenecks in the customer's decision making process. In that sense. brands will begin to focus as much on signals of intent as they do on location.
So that's 8 of my digital marketing trends for 2017.
