Paid options for directory listings

Here is my next question about link building with directory websites.

Ok so a few of the websites allow me to just submit a link. a huge amount are asking for a reciprocal link and now I have found that there are some that offer different options.

So when they have a choice of a free link which takes a long time for approval, adding a reciprocal link for less approval time and a paid option which is like super fast approval of a day or so...which one would you choose?

Some of the prices are really cheap like a few USD a year, do you think it would be worthwhile paying for these links or not?

I guess, before you decide to do reciprocal link or paid link, check their domain authority and trust flow. There is many free tools to check these stats. If website is really high DA and TF / CF i believe it worth paying reasonable amount of money because it really brings a lot of authority to your website, getting you more traffic and improving your SERP (search engine rank positioning) So take some time and don't hesitate to pay for quality backlinks.

Kind regards

Yes that is what I thought, there are some really strong authority websites and some of them charge just $5 or $10 for a link for a year for a featured listing, plus it gets listed quickly whereas if I go for the free listing it can take up to like 8 weeks sometimes for a listing to be approved and published!

I do think that I will go for some paid options soon. I left all those ones out and marked them to come back to.

Thanks for confirming what I already thought. I just wanted to double check before I venture off into this unknown territory.

In my opinion, you should avoid most directory listings. Sure local listings are fine and it nothing runs to list yourself so that people will know you locally. But going out of your way to get links on some directory type of farms can be harmful.

Let me tell you my logic.

Is the directory allowing free link listings?
If the answer is Yes - You don't want a link from that directory, it's probably packed with link and Google sees it as a link farm.

Is the directory allowing free links but you need to publish a reciprocal? Well, you don't want to do this either, how many reciprocal link will you manage to publish on your blog before you get penalized? To top it all off, the actual link juice will probably be weak or insignificant since we are talking about a reciprocal.

Is the directory willing to publish your link only if you pay? Well, some paid directories may worth your while but most don't. And Googles strictly forbids paying for links, don't forget that!

Bottom line: the only directory that still worthy of submitting your link too is DMOZ.

Does the backlink from DMOZ still carry weight on rankings? I know that, a while ago, I tried to submit my solar energy blog to DMOZ but it took like forever. Solar Energy was quite a quick rising niche and i hoped that they will assign a moderator for this category to accept the links faster. I was in pending for more than 3 months, I even resented my application few times but without success because there was no one checking it.

I would say that DMOZ will be on my list to consider on my future backlinking campaigns but i will not put my hopes in getting accepted.

I submitted to them yesterday but then I also submitted to them a few years ago and I never heard anything from them ever again?

Who knows how they work, but hey I submitted it so I will just wait and see.

Usually the moderators are sleeping in their boots. Or maybe they have too many applications every day and that's why they are delaying the approval.

I like your opinion .... no free way to get backlinks ... sometimes we have to exchange to get a link ... you can post a link here, or mutually link building
