A lot of people sell these clone type scripts and designs of popular websites and make a good amount of money off of each sale because of the time it takes to program and design them.
Would you purchase a clone website script and try to run your own popular website to compete with the original?
Or would you use the concept to break into different niches and try to profit?
A lot of people do this and not that many can break out on their own because they think that all they have to do is set up the website and the people will come in to spend thousands of dollars a month. It doesn't work even remotely close to that and I hope I didn't just crush your dreams. A very popular website that you already know, SeoClerks, took the online marketplace idea and pushed it into the SEO, Design and Online Marketing niche and did very well for themselves, but they are a rare case. There was a void in the niche for a dedicated marketplace and the founders started their coding and programming to fill that void. They then marketed it well enough to get the snowball affect going where other people begin to share the website. They did a great job back then and are still doing an amazing job today. But I'm not really here to talk about SeoClerks, they're just an example of what I'm talking about
Would you be able to clone a website yourself, or buy the script/design, and implement it as your own and turn a profit?
I actually have an idea to set something up in a different niche and it uses a type of marketplace, but more of a crowd funding type platform and not a buy and sell services platform I have the niche where there's a void for the system and I want to set up my website so that I can capitalize on it. I intend on purchasing a clone script/design and rebranding it as my own so that I can build my brand at the same time I'm pulling in profits.
I think it's possible if you find the right niches, what do you think?

Can you make a lot of money?
It depends. It depends on your business model, and how much traffic you have to the website. If you have a clone of another website, or a website that is similar to another one why would people want to join your 'clone'? You have to change things up a bit, add features the original website wouldn't or doesn't have.

This would depend on if the website is copyrighted, and trademarked. If you took a design, and basically cloned the entire thing.. chances are you could be sued. So you would need to change the layout a bit. As someone who actually creates 'clones' of popular money making websites, I would like to give my brief experiences, and opinions about all of this.
