Hi all. Have you ever started your own social networking site and community? Whether something generic or a niche related social networking site/community?
Have you ever wanted to be the CEO of your own social media site like Facebook or Instagram, Twitter etc? Or have you ever started any broad or niche social network?
There are many social networking scripts out there you can use to start your own social networking site. Things like Oxwall, BuddyPress, JCow, phpFox, phpFusion, Dolphin, Elgg etc etc. Have you ever used any of these to start and run your own social network?
If so how is it going or is it still up and running?
Have you had any success with it?
Or is this sort of thing on your "things to try and do" list?

Maybe if the right buyer comes along I'll pitch my idea, I'm fine with 10% percent of the company! Just need to find the right person to invest in all of this.
As far as starting communities, well I did do that at one point a lot of years ago when IRC was still active. I've created a channel that has around 200+ active members every minute of the day, having peak points of 1000 members active at once.
Glorious times, too bad I was too young and too naive to turn a profit around from all that traffic. Now that you mention all of this. I do have an idea about a social network I think it can change everything! But I'm not yet ready to share it with the world.
