Just pondering, here..
Public figures have different requirements from social networks than businesses and general users.
I think that Twitter might be preferred over Facebook by most celebrities. It's still a great promotional network to get the word out about what you're doing, but it's not as... two-way with the public, I guess you could say. Now I think Instagram may be becoming preferred over Twitter for much the same reason.
Celebs are simply not able to respond to everyone who approaches them. Imagine getting 10000 tweets per day from fans, asking random questions, requesting favors, trying to connect. It's not possible to keep up with fans the way that businesses keep up with customers.
Twitter allows for quick "liking" and retweeting, both easy and quick ways to acknowledge fans, all in a stream, pretty much in bulk - not in separate page posts that may be several paragraphs long asking five questions each..
How creepy can you get in 144 characters or less? That's not a challenge, by the way. Haha.. My point is, It's easier to be a weirdo on Facebook. You can rant and rave and take as much space as you'd like, interact with other fans in comment threads, form a mob, etc.. It gets bizarre. Less so on Twitter.. and much less so on Instagram.
On Instagram, you're not expected to respond to comments or posts at all. Facebook, though... Boy, people post on someone's timeline, and they usually expect an answer. I've seen people get SO upset about not getting a response from their favorite singer. It's crazy. It happens less on Twitter, and even less on IG, from what I've seen.
Also, reporting threats, imposters and stalkers on Facebook is pretty much a waste of time. They really don't put effort into it, and it takes forever.. Twitter is really vigilant about it, though. They are all over it. Not sure about IG.
Enter Snapchat. I'm not sure about this one, honestly.. If someone's trying to promote themselves, their music, their tour dates, their new film.. They want that info to STICK.. The disposable posts platform.. I'm not sure that's what public figures want. Seems like more of a personal-use app. I don't know, though..
I'd really love to hear your thoughts on this. Please discuss!!
