Do you rely on Google for traffic? What if Google Disappeared or you was Deranked?

It's great when you've got good rankings isn't it? When you've got a website ranking high for many keywords, terms and things. Either from the hard work you've put in doing SEO yourself, or from all the money you've spent on SEO services!?

But what would happen if Google stopped being a Search Engine? Or what about if for some reason, there was another new big Google Algorithm update and you was knocked out the rankings? Sometimes this has happened to even good sites in the past!

Do you have a backup contingency plan in place for that?

So many people rely on Google for traffic, sales and revenue. They tirelessly work away doing SEO which can build traffic to your site in itself. And get you good rankings too. But if things go pear shaped and something major happens and you suddenly find yourself without any rankings or worse, completely de-indexed from Google. Are you prepared for that?

Do you do SEO that builds not only links but traffic to your site too?

Do you search out high traffic sites and pages on the Internet to get your links on and from?

Or do you just do SEO (on-page and off-page) and hope that never happens?

Well if there is no Google, there will be some other similar site and probably it would be same as when Google did not exist, to relay on submitting links to various link directories and make reciprocal links, as we did before Google, when Yahoo and DMOZ were so big and dominant directories. I guess it won't happen, because Google is so big, strong and dominant, while constantly improving it's services and adding much more to get everyone in and control everything on internet.
But, in other hand you can never be so sure that Google will always be there, same as happen to Yahoo, someone else could jump in with some new ideas and huge investments and backup plan because there is many who would like to dominate everything in the world...

All that it takes to dislodge these giants is a disruptive technology where the owners don't sell out for a couple billion. Do you rely on Google for traffic? What if Google Disappeared or you was Deranked? Big guys fail all the time! Many times over diversification, or a business engaged in to many businesses outside of the core business is the reason for failure. The more you make the smaller your profit because it take infrastructure and resources to run, grow and maintain additional business. A perfect example that was just recently in the news is Yahoo. They just sold to Verizon for 4.83B. Yahoo was forced to sell off entire divisions and also finally their core business. Yahoo was not earning money from many of the businesses they were operating causing the chain reaction up to the sale of the business. Even the big guys fail and fall. I always like to say keep thing simple and "Keep it Small But Keep it All."

I use to rely on Google adwords until they banned me. I was then scurrying to find new traffic sources before my funds went dry. It was hectic but it was also a pretty good learning curve when it came to figuring out other advertising platforms Do you rely on Google for traffic? What if Google Disappeared or you was Deranked? I also learned some tricks in order to get my ad on websites that didn't allow advertising lol.

I try not to rely on one source of traffic because I've had it taken away from me (damn you adwords team) and it was horrifying. I log in and see my sales are next to nothing and then figure out we've been banned. But the good thing is that if Google were to disappear tomorrow, I already have a super optimized campaign running on Yahoo!/Bing and I'll just take all the traffic muahahahaha!

I think that because of Google's dominance among search engines, many focus solely on it, ignoring Bing and Yahoo for instance. However it is important to remember that there are people who prefer to use them, even though they are a minority. So if something happened to Google as you said, you could be on the safe side if you rank well on Yahoo and Bing.

It is also important to make sure that you utilize a variety of advertising platforms, and to have a diversified SEO campaign that will allow you a backup in case something like this happened.

Hi idealmike thanks for your imagination question. I think Google never stopped search engine and may change way of ranking on website. I mean they may change SEO technique. And I am sure all webmasters will get the way of ranking site by keyword too. Yes it is pretty sure that all website owner really rely on Google as for getting traffic and they used SEO method. if Google stop the search ranking anytime in future, I think people will go to alternative search engine like yahoo or bing. And Google popularity will become under 0%. Your last question answer is Yes I did SEO for getting traffic by making backlinks. and I did on-page and off-page SEO myself and my sits now good ranking on search engine.

Let me start out stating that Google is not a reliable partner for business because they have too many customers that are the same as you and doing the same thing as you. Google is a search engine who monetize's their business through advertising. They earn their living when you spend money. This being said, during Google's early years they had only one or two algorithm changes, today they have 500 per day!
One of the outcomes for all of the algorithm changes is that the search results gets shuffled. Google's objectives are, even if they don't admit it is to frustrate businesses to the point where people give up and then buy PPC advertising. Google uses psychology all the time to increase sales and revenue. Example: With Google's PPC if you don't maintain a decent CTR on a keyword they ban this word. The first knee jerk reaction for people trying to hang on to the most important keyword is to raise their bid. The end result is Google increases their revenue and bottom line. I see this happen all the time and now look at all search engines with a discerning eye.

I'm fairly sure I do the type of SEO that won't be knocked off by any future Google update, or at least I hops so. My content is clean and natural and I only develop white connections.
But even if I'm destroyed my Google, I'll try finding solutions. There is always hope and you can always fix things eventually, even if you get sandboxed, heard a lot of success stories of people that manage to clean their backlink profiles and develop new and high quality ones that put them back in Google's good grace.

In that kind of bad situation I use social media to target the right audience: for free it's harder but more precisely, and via paid ads it's easier, but not laser targeted...

Well for one of my websites the majority of my traffic comes from organic search which is mostly Google. Another website is mostly social traffic.

I try and mix my online marketing efforts so I make use of email marketing, social media marketing and content marketing.

I think this has happened to my website. And my traffic derailed plenty of times. As you can see it takes time to rank. And in one single update the ranking of the website goes down. There is not much one can do in such case. You can see that many people have lost their micro niche site earning this way. I think for the same reason people should have some sort of diversification plan in their mind. I think diversification and relying more on social media traffic would give better results.

I don’t think it is a good idea to solely rely on SEO for the traffic of your website. I know that some people are too engrossed with the SEO capability of their site that they forget to market it. Why not use your social media account to get some traffic? No matter how little but traffic is traffic and your friends can definitely pitch in with your traffic needs. Some friends can even share your promotional posts so their own friends can also help. At least there is another source of traffic and not only from Google.

I don't think Google will die anytime soon. As long as internet is working, Google will continue to survice. However, relying too much on Google can be very bad for your business. Well, Google is still number one traffic source for most of the websites. However, because of competition, getting regular traffic from Google is becoming increasingly difficult. Therefore, we should also consider other search engines for traffic. We will have to optimize our sites for other search engines as well.

I don't care much about Google because I'm getting my traffic from Facebook. Facebook has 46 percent, while Google has 34 percent of the pie. So when it comes to traffic I'm going with the leader which is Facebook.
