Steemit - A new ERA in Social Media? - Part 2

Is this "Steemit thing" actually that great? - Without a doubt!

This is Part 2 and in this part I'll introduce you to the different currencies on steemit.

-Wait what? Different cash?!

On Steemit there's three (3) different "currencies". Let's not complicate things, there's only 1 that "matters" to most people at the beginning, that is steem dollar and that's the cash you can withdraw using an exchange site. More on that in the next part.

The three different currencies:

  • STEEM?
Steem, tradeable tokens that may be transferred at anytime. Steem can be converted to Steem Power in a process called powering up.

  • STEEM POWER
Steem Power, influence tokens that earn more power for holding long term and voting on posts. The more one holds the more one can influence other’s rewards and earn rewards for accurate voting.

  • STEEM DOLLARS
Tokens worth about $1.00 of Steem.

So, for anyone who's having a hard time understand this, I'll try to explain this in the best possible way I can, in the simplest way I know of.

People with a BUNCH of Steem Power is called Whales. Next in line there's Dolphins.. Then there are minnows. Maximum, Average and Minimum sort of.

Steem Power gives you just what it sounds like. Power.

Take a look at this:

Pending Payout is $17.39. 13 people have upvoted this post and it's a total of 4 comments. This is minnows in action.

In this next screenshot you'll see the power of both whales, dolphins and minnows in action.

A vote from a whale will most likely end up in anything between $200 and $500 in pending payout immediately, but it also gives you one other benefit. A huge one. Your post will be ranked higher in the "trending" listing.. And that will obviously also increase your chances of getting upvotes from several whales, dolphins and minnows.

Upvotes can be compared with a Like on Facebook for instance. People click "upvote" because they like your content and your earnings will increase.

That's it for Part 2. Take a look at Part 3 for more information! Steemit - A new ERA in Social Media? - Part 2

I like the title you chose - could it indeed be a new era in social media? I really hope it would inspire other social media platforms to pay something to members, especially considering that at the end of teh day they are the ones who make them successful or not, and so I guess it is only fair to share something with them rather than keep all the profits for themselves. Because just imagine how awesome it would be to get paid for Facebook comments, Tweets and so on. It would definitely make more people get addicted to social media platforms!

Thanks, and yeah, I actually think this could be just that. A new era. Facebook, Twitter, Reddit etc. you won't earn a single cent from posting or sharing things on those sites.. And steemit WILL reward you for your contributions.. At least they CAN. You CAN make money on steemit. From literally ANYTHING you post. A single photo of a tree. The 10 first pages from a book.. Whatever. You CAN make money by sharing it.. So I bet there'll be HUNDREDS of thousands of people in the next upcoming months.

I am wondering why Steemit has to deal with pseudo currencies when they can just use dollars for the intent and purposes. The use of pseudo currency is like a camouflage or a gimmick. I have seen sites which I will not mention that are using their own pseudo currency and in the end they are able to trick the users by the simple act of devaluation. Think if a pseudo currency that has a value of 1 is to $1 that was devalued at 1 is to $0.10 then you now what I mean.
