Do you have experience monetizing your website with monthly plans, or selling perk packages?

I would like to know your experience based on monetization of a website. Have you ever sold any monthly plans (like hosting), or offered your website audience/users any perks, such as packages, or items (MMORPGs). Was this monetization profitable for you, did it work in the long run? Will you continue to monetize your website in this aspect? Did you place advertisements on your website and offer these perks together or give an option to remove advertising if they bought a package? What incentive did you offer your audience/users to make them want to pay for a package or plan?

I have seen forums offer hosting before but I honestly didn’t see them have much success. Using hosting to monetise your website is not a good idea if that is not your main focus because people won’t trust you and they expect quality 24/7 support from you which often cannot be provided from websites that use hosting packages as a secondary source of income. I have offered forum sponsor ranks on my forum where they pay a small donation and then get perks like custom ranks and private forums. I think this may work depending on the type of audience you have and what perks you offer. I know that Digitial Point does something like this where you can buy premium membership for perks like access to their marketplace. I have to say it wasn’t very profitable for me but my main source of revenue comes from advertisements. With adblockers being popular, providing advertisement removal for a small fee is a good idea so active members would support your website this way. Therefore, I plan on introducing it on my forum.

AdBlocker sparks up a good discussion. With many browsers having plugins and add-ons for adblocking, do you feel it is still profitable to offer these forum perks to hide advertisements on your forum? A member of the forum can easily download an adblocker without paying any cost, say AdBlock Plus and hide the advertisements. Therefore you would be losing money from both the forum perk, and the advertisements on the forum. How exactly would you go about introducing a perk to hide advertisements when someone uses an Adblocker on their browser? Perhaps create a perk for those who use adblocker but still purchase a perk to remove ads to support the site?

I own a forum and the key is to build relationships with your members. Make them like your site and make them want to support it. They can certainly use adblockers but when they like my forum and I offer them the removal of advertisements for a small fee, then they will buy it as they don’t want the forum to die. They will think it is better than donations as they actually get something in return. You can also sell it as a package so you can offer extra perks and removal of advertisement for a small fee which makes it seem like a better offer. You can easily offer things that cost you nothing like ranks, custom titles and private groups.

For monetizing website I guess Adsense is the most popular. In fact, that’s the only kind of monetization I know that’s why I am learning as much as I can about SEO. When I master SEO methods then I can create a website and drive big traffic to it after having it registered with Adsense. Some web masters say that a site can earn much if you are able to drive a lot of new traffic regularly. Increasing traffic is directly proportional to increasing revenue.
