But, I want to remain as calm and level headed as possible, without being sucked into the drama. This is the best way to make good decisions in a pressure cooker situation.
Please give me tips for how to remain neutral and emotionally detached even in emotionally charged situations where someone else is acting hostile or confrontational.

Take a deep breath and try to step outside yourself. Look at the situation from the other person's point of view.
The other person might be having a bad day and if they're venting at you, then that's not right, but it does happen.
Sometimes, it's part of your job to deal with angry people or you have to put yourself in the line of fire. And, you aren't going to be able to dodge every bullet.
