Is yoga a sport?

Would you consider yoga to be a sport or just a fitness routine, such as something you would do to get into shape?

I would not consider it a sport, but a way to be physical.

I don't know if its a sport. I think its just like an exercise. In sports there are competitions and rules and regulations.

Yoga....
Well... A competitive sport perhaps for flexibility maybe.
I enjoyed Yoga when I took part. Very soothing and relaxing. It helps relieved a lot of stress, and headaches. Completely takes you away to another planet,

I loved doing yoga as it helped increase my body flexibility and strength. This past year, I have not done any yoga as I've been busy with family and work and my health has suffered. My head aches more and I don't feel limber anymore. I want to get back into yoga to strengthen my body. As for it being a sport, I would not think so as you need a competition between people to usually make it a sport. Though some games are friendly.

I just read yesterday that yoga is a great way to lose weight. I would love to try some poses on the page that was listed as I would love to tone up a bit.

I have to agree with tionna there. It is a way to work out but not really a sport.

I'm a big fan of yoga, but I definitely would not call it a sport. I think in order for something to be a sport, there needs to be an element of competition. I think the only way that you can bring competition into a practice like yoga is to compare who is doing the pose better. Ultimately this would take away from the point of yoga though. Yoga is a relaxing experience that is intended to keep both your body and mind fit. I don't think that we need to be turning it into a sport.

From the place I am where the Yoga was originated. The activity is definitely not a sport. It was designed to keep the mind and body in position. And it was supposed to help the brain more in that case. You can see that yoga has it's set of the issues. So it's not that all people can do it easily. You may find that yoga requires some effort on our part. So I think yoga is meant to be exercise activity for both mind and body. So not exactly a sport.

It is just a way to keep the body in good shape for it is not everyone that can involve in yoga exercise. So, it is not a sport, although others might have contrary opinions on this.

I dont think yoga is a sport because Yoga is complex to define because it’s a bit different to each person, but generally it’s a system to better yourself, be it physically, spiritually or emotionally. To a lot of people it’s a workout to others it’s a way of connecting to something beyond themselves or simply breathing better.
