Lag!

I get constant lag and page freezes (where the flash element freezes or tries to crash) on every page I try to visit online today, even Facebook is lagging and that site never lags for me. I am not sure what to do as it's making my browser come to a stand still.

Reboot your computer as it's likely over heating. This will also close all your windows allowing your computer cache to clear.

Scan your computer for a virus to see if your computer has been infected as this can cause lag.

Facebook causes me to lag. But, that has more to do with the ads on their page than anything else.

How long has your computer been on, such as when was the last time you shut it off to give it a break? Your computer could just be overheating and might need a break for awhile. Turn off your computer, get offline and do something else with your family for awhile. This will give your computer time to recoup and most likely it will run smoother when you get back online.

Maybe a script is running on your pages that would cause the lag. If you have a task manager for your browser, try shutting down some processes to see if that eases the lag.

Are you streaming movies on another device? If so, that could be why you are lagging so much as your internet bandwidth is being used elsewhere. Also, you can get throttled if you stream too much.

Get away from the computer for awhile and later when you come back and turn it on again, the computer should be running faster.

Turned out to be a combination of all those things. My computer was just really old and needed to be retired. Since I got my new computer, things are a lot better and I'm able to work a lot faster, with very little lagging.

Have you thought about cleaning your browser cookies and cache? Also, enabling cookie blocking might help you out. Now, it is highly possible that your network is being overloaded. The basic steps are to restart your router, check your router for any un-wanted connections and change the password itself.

If you are on Windows, then open the CMD and enter 'ipconfig /flushdns'. It'll reset the DNS cache. However, if you are a Mac user then you must enter 'sudo discoveryutil mdnsflushcache' in terminal.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I cleaned my cookies and cache as suggested and there was over 1GB of temp files and content deleted.

Another factor that was contributing to the issue was bad weather with the internet connection. Since the weather is warmer now, there is less lag and disconnections.
