How do Google treat sub-domains?

I'm planning to put a couple of sub-domains on my main website. How do Google treat these sub-domains?

I would not try to rely on EMD or especially EMD subdomains anymore.

In my experience, there is no problem in using a subdomain. You can use sbdomains with your main website. IN fact if you are publishing contents n different topics (different from the topics on your main website), it is better to have a subdomain. If your main website is a company website, you can have a subdomain and use it as a blog or a forum for the website.

My concept of sub-domain is just like another web page inside your domain. Whatever you put in your website will be treated as part of the website and the sub domain falls into that category. I don’t see any problem if you create a sub domain or even several sub domains. It just gives you the convenience of segregating that particular group of web pages like a blog inside an e-commerce site. Still and all they are just web pages.
