Google to Make Amendments

Google must make some amendments according to a ruling from the EU. The European Union of Court Justice ruled that Google must remove links that are either outdated or irrelevant from search results. This ruling took place on Tuesday, May 13.

As part of the ruling the EU found that individuals have a right to control their private data. They also have a right to request that information be forgotten. Europeans are viewing this as a victory.

This case came from a ruling in a Spanish case against Google. In that case, it ruled that Google 's search engine was indeed responsible for any content that is brought up after an inquiry. Google must respond to any request that is legitimate to remove content. Exceptions can be made in this case though if it deals with certain subject matter, such as politicians or another public figure. Back in 2011, 90 people fought to have links about them removed, and they all won their cases.

I would say that it is a victory if they are able to keep their data private.

Sometimes people post things online for the purpose of defaming the reputation of others. And, these pages gets included into Google search. It's good that Google would respond to inquiries to have this info removed from search.
