What's your best editing or revision technique as a writer?

I love writing, but one of the most satisfying parts of the writing process for me comes when I am able to edit and revise what I have written. And, this is one of the most essential parts of my writing process.

To anyone who is writing, I would say, don't be afraid to edit constantly until your work shines, even when you are completely in love with your work. You can always keep a copy of the original in another file so that you will see how far you have come. This is useful as sometimes important information is deleted in the editing process.

Give a tip or technique for the editing process; tricks that you might use to make your work better through editing and revision.

After writing a blog post, I save it as draft and then walk away from it for a few hours or a day. The time away allows me to get insight into my article so that I can approach it with fresh eyes the next time I sit down to write. This is my best revision or editing technique and something which others might benefit from.

Reading my work out loud really helps me out greatly. I find the most mistakes this way.

When I get an idea, I don't immediately sit down to write it. I brood on it, make notes and let the idea grow mature. Once the idea expands, I sit down to write. However, before I write, I will be doing a lot of research. Once the article is complete, I don't return to the article for days. I go back to the article to revise and edit only when the article is completely out of my mind. When I am revising, I revise it in a way that I am writing it again.

When writing articles, I make a run through 3 to 5 times depending on the magnitude of mistakes. What I mean by mistakes are not really just errors but also the bad sentences which needs to be rephrased that includes the words and terms that are trite. But the most critical part is the message of my article. If it is not clear then I have to rewrite the entire document. In those cases, I list down the points in the sequence that I want it to appear and then rewrite it as a new article.

I write in English as a second language, therefore, I have average language skills. I tend to make many mistakes. I use Ginger software to correct my mistakes. By running this program, you can correct common language and grammar mistake. This is my favorite way to do editing. Before I publish the article, I also read it for at least 3 times and correct all the mistakes that I can spot.
