    Blog name hogs

    Today I came up with a really amazing blog name (which I want to use on a Blogger style blog) and amazingly (as obscure as it is), the subdomain is still taken. The subdomain goes to a blog that hasn't been updated since 2009. This type of blog name hogging is very common. Just wondering if there is a way to get Blogger to remove the subdomain from the dormant blog and free it up for a blogger who wants to use it actively.

    Why can't you simply contact blogger and ask them to delete the dormant blog? There are many dormant or inactive blogs on Blogger.com. And, there's no way Blogger could know about them all. So report it.

    You could always add another word onto the end of the Blogger subdomain name to make it uniquely yours. For instance, if 'internet- marketing' subdomain is taken, then change it to 'internet-marketing-tricks'. This will allow you to use the keywords you want and make the name more unique than the original.

    Just contact blogger and see if they plan on making any updates to the ones that are not being used. It does not hurt to ask.

    Maybe there is some type of official policy which says you can have a blog declared dead if it's not been posted to in a long time. Then the name would be available for use by anyone.

    I don't think there's much you can do about this. Blogger doesn't make a big deal if someone has a name for their subdomain blog but never uses it.
